  1. Never tried them as overripe. The only ones I have had are ones that I can see wont be fresh in a day or two. When I wrap them up they arent brown or anything. The brown bananas do simply make the best banana bread though.
  2. Remembered about this the other day. Just ate a frozen treat..... Yum
  3. Sorry to hear about that. I got ahold of him a few weeks ago on his cell, he said he would refund my order - but unfortunately that was the last I heard from him as well. Hope that you guys can get some joy from the auditors. Im not too fussed - my order is outstanding since December last year so I had pretty much given up hope of getting anything anyway.
  4. Removing comment for now - managed to eventually get a hold of Sean
  5. Thanks! Yes been looking at it now - the feedback I got back is that because the ISP clamp clamps down top to bottom it should be ok. Just need to watch the torque though so it doesnt crack.
  6. Hey guys Do any of you know if the specialized power saddle - carbon railed one fits on the standard giant ISP clamp? According to them not all clamps are compatible. Anyone know?
  7. Thats fantastic! My wife has the 800 think it would use the same battery? If I get it right ill breathe some fresh legs into my 810 as well then.
  8. Audax 200 Stellenbosch – Yzerfontein – Stellenbosch 5th December 2020 https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1281259 Please read this if you are interested in doing this event. This ride starts at Vrede Wines in Stellenbosch https://www.google.com/maps/place/Vrede+Wines/@-33.8472308,18.8033803,16z/data=!4m12!1m6!3m5!1s0x1dcc534dbaffe7a7:0xcf149fe7caa14aa5!2sVrede+Wines!8m2!3d-33.8472657!4d18.8037261!3m4!1s0x0:0xcf149fe7caa14aa5!8m2!3d-33.8472657!4d18.8037255 The event starts at 5am. Gates will open from 4am. Try and be there by 4.30am to collect your entry. There is secure parking on the farm. Left at T junction on farm. Ample parking around offices there. An Audax event is an unsupported ride. This is not the same as a pedal power race where you have water tables and big groups. This is an event that you can ride alone or with a group of people that you ride the pre-planned route. Try and stay with people if you can for safety and support. You need to check-in at certain control points along the way. If you need food or water you may stop wherever you need to, however be mindful of the time restrictions so try and use your control point stops wisely. There is also a website - http://audaxsa.co.za/ Don’t worry about the event being listed on the website as 600 – because of lockdown regulations they are keeping the official distance at 200 for this one. Payment and entry details are at the bottom of this document. On the day, before you start the event you will be given this form below. Keep this safe with you – maybe in a ziplock bag – The control points need to sign this. Please ensure that your information is correct and you sign that you accept the rules. Pay careful attention to the check-in times printed on the control sheet. Maintain an AVG speed between points of 15-30km/h to ensure this. If you have a hurricane tail wind that blows you there you may have to have coffee before checking in. If you are unsure how to pace this – your lap function on your GPS can be useful here. Press lap whenever the control card is signed. For accurate timing on your GPS device you can turn off the autopause. The route is above in the link. It has the following four control points. Total garage at melkbos next to the restaurant. https://www.google.co.za/maps/place/Total+Melkbos/@-33.7378419,18.4590396,15.5z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x2b9dd052bc60bed3!8m2!3d-33.735192!4d18.4563151?hl=en Westcoast Farmstall in Yzerfontein – on the corner of the R27 and Yzerfontein road. https://www.google.co.za/maps/place/West+Coast+Farm+Stall/@-33.3345228,18.2396825,17.54z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x1dccbab48cdfdb99:0x4475d15403dcae49!8m2!3d-33.3347323!4d18.2386217?hl=en Wimpy Malmesbury. https://www.google.co.za/maps/place/Wimpy/@-33.463541,18.7268563,17z/data=!4m8!1m2!2m1!1sWimpy+Malmesbury!3m4!1s0x0:0x7041d385bc068193!8m2!3d-33.4625001!4d18.7295001?hl=en Number 4 – very important a selfie outside the Vrede farm. Otherwise your strava will get less kudos ???? Please whatsapp this photo to Derek (the organiser) when you finish – He is not going to be at this event and he wants to see your face at the end gate.If your phone is flat – another reason to be in a group and get your new friend to snap you and send it to Derek. Please save Derek’s number – +27 83 305 7259 Get the farm name in the photo as below. Remember to drop your completed sheets into the box at the end. They will show us where it is. Some considerations for the event. This is a long day out on the bike. Enjoy it, it’s not a race to finish first. Carry food with you as well as water. It is important to eat regularly to complete this. Try and stick to real food as far as possible. Energy drinks wont leave you feeling great after 8 hours. Remember sunscreen and the weather is always unpredictable so a light jacket or vest would be prudent. Chamois cream can be a life saver to help prevent chafing. Don’t forget your spare tubes and tools. Don’t try and race through the beginning because you feel fresh. If you are unsure how to ride a longer distance rather hold back take it easy and save the legs for the last stretch. This is another good reason to be in a group. Some of the people would have done longer distance events and can help you how to pace yourself for this. If you have strict dietary requirements, consider using an empty camelback or similar sized bag for your food. Two water bottles will be needed as the last stretch could be very long and hot – especially if the SE blows hard that day. The stretch from Malmesbury can feel like a lifetime, another good reason to stay in the group ???? Because the website has the listing for the 600km event – it needs to go via hoops and Paris to get the details updated now. You may still enter there if you wish to spend the extra R50 but if you want the original price then you can EFT instead. Please email your Name, Surname, Contact Number, Club Name (No club if you don’t have one) to Derek. derekpanda655@outlook.com Use the subject line Audax 200 Please EFT R150 to : DJ Lawrence FNB Acc No : 60923078394 Branch code : 250655 Use AUDAX 200 – NAME SURNAME as the reference. Please send proof of payment to the same email address. Please complete your entries by latest Sunday the 29th of November so that your name can be registered on time. If you require more information you can contact Derek on whatsapp +27 83 305 7259 Alternatively, I can try and answer your question as well – Warren Heald 082 371 6779
  9. Hey guys Shew its been years since ive posted. But I suppose this is a nice one to say hi again. Since this year has been so blah I have been dying to do events that havent happened. I saw guys doing a Audax 200km the other day - and that sprung some interest into maybe doing one with a whole group of guys. Its not a race - but just a really lekker day out on the saddle. The organizer contacted me yesterday - there will be one happening on the 5th of december - instead of the 600km as listed on their website it will only be a 200km. (lockdown hours etc limiting hours) http://audaxsa.co.za/ A audax is pretty simple - you start at a venue - follow a set route like you would a race - instead of having water tables you stop at control points (check points) to prove you did the route. They sign your control card. All of the control points are places where you can get food etc so you dont need to carry 5 bottles in your back pockets. To make sure you are within cut of times - you need to try stick within 15-30km/h between the points. If you really want to race it then you can - but then have a coffee before they sign your checkin sheet. No podiums at the end - its just a event to ride and finish and enjoy the day. It is also super cheap - R150 If you are interested - only catch is you need to enter before sunday so that the organizer can process all of the entries before the morning. Ill attach a word doc explaining everything and how to enter. You can enter through the website still - but then you are paying 200 bucks. Post here if you are keen - maybe spread the word too. Hope to see you there! Warren
  10. From a brief inspection it appears that just the arm was torn off. But there is always a risk that there has been other damage that I wont see until trying to use it again I suppose.
  11. Sorry if this has been asked before. My 7800 RD broke last weekend. Root cause I suspect was the aftermarket KCNC jockey wheels which were on it when I bought it second hand. Has been very happy for about two years but last sunday the whole thing failed horribly. I think one of the wheels broke hooking the chain with the sharp pointy bits which took out the arm that houses the wheels and then finally my hanger. My YBN chain very surprisingly hasnt broken but it has mysteriously been bent 90 deg in two different places. I do have a old 10 speed microshift RD which I can use, but I would love to get another 7800 RD because it really did shift so so nicely. I see they are lank rare though. I do however see more second hand 10 speed 7900's going though. Because the 7900's featured cables that could be routed under the tape is the RD any different? Both are 10 speed and I am not aware if cable pull ratios have been changed at all. So would it work? I dont want something that is going to play up either I would rather look for a old ultegra then instead. Another question. I know that weight weenies replace the swing arm with carbon ones. So that is possibly a solution. To just replace the arm. Is there another derailer which shares the same arm that I could take it off? http://www.bikerumor.com/2013/05/29/found-outrageous-64g-dura-ace-derailleur/ Any other ideas?
  12. Yup! Got a couple of those lying in some random boxes full of the old medals.
  13. You did well there Cacey! I saw you go to the front on the pothole section where everyone else was trying to watch out for the holes. Roadies will never enjoy having a MTB with them in a bunch I think they are slightly unpredictable (roll differently and wider and I suppose some egos also get damaged from the guys who are struggling on thin wheels) but you did very well to man up and go to the front and do some pulling. In fact there was a MTB with us at killarney last wednesday. Everytime we entered the sprint straight I was just waiting for him to drop off but he stuck it the whole time. I dont know how he did those speeds He would have averaged 42 for the session and he rode it like a roadie would have!
  14. Put a slightly longer gap between the top racing groups and you should be fine. You arent going to see them taking cobblestone roads out of races because people fall..... Yes the road isnt great BUT it was my favorite part of the burger. Im sure a lot of guys like it way more than the new one. I dont know what it is but once I am under the trees I barely feel the climb. Compared to the new one that is just a long steady sufferfeast all the way up.
  15. I got a porridge wheel in the industrial unfortunately so I missed my 2 hour bus. Started with the G-H, a lot of Cycles Direct and Outriders dropped back to start as a team. It was pretty hectic from the word go, full on killarney in duinefontein already. They caught the E-F group on the westcoast road already just past the first atlantis turnoff. I always make the mistake on that hill to not move up to the front before we get there (as I am not a skinny climbing machine) So the front machines got away there. Punctured shortly thereafter and then you just grab onto whatever is coming past. I must say it was a nice event even though it was shorter. Yes, the roads are rough but it adds something else to the race. I took a drive to darling last saturday and they had pretty big roadworks going on there so that is likely the reason why they canned the long 118 route. So maybe it will be back for next year.... ???? I got there really early took me 2 min to register and spent the rest of the time freezing my fingers off. It was 4 deg!!!! My friend almost missed the race and had to drop back to Temp because he was in the looooong line.
  16. Oops, ya our wives dont appreciate those type of comments. My buddy said he would take it from you, but how does it work to substitute out? I dont think you will get a time unless they see that you have entered. Unless you just skelm it on strava.
  17. The one positive thing about crits though is they are very entertaining for the crowds. I took my wife and kids along to two of the LBL crits and they all loved it. Very difficult to find public participation on a long road race. You get to see your hotshots for a few seconds and then they are gone. Yes crits are not for everybody either and you could never run a full blown funride on a small tight crit course. Bigger courses like atlantis industria works very well and western province always runs a very successful road race there every year. Ive heard directly from ppa at one killarney session that racetec doesnt currently support laps on a route, But there are other timing systems like the one they used for league that does.
  18. One Tonner 2015-10-18 Cape Classic 380 2015-11-06 (sounds quite cool. 3000 bucks but includes everything) And if you are really adventurous.... Heels on wheels 2015-11-08 Also dont forget about killarney. Starting soon like next week maybe? Tuesday / thursday (ppa) Wednesday (the more crazy speeds) Anyone know if western province or LBL is planning anything? Ill look on the city cycles roster later, I know they also do events throughout the year and they are sometimes free / or very cheap. You just need the league chip.
  19. Yup, well said! Hey, another way to look at it. We dont complain that killarney sessions are only an hour long. These short races just means that we have to dig deep and push really hard for shorter. So have your pick - long race = steady effort over long time short race = try not get dropped in the first 2 min.... Either way, we should be thankful for every event we have now days. I remember when I started getting into cycling around 10 years ago there were so many events in spring/summer that you could choose if you wanted to do the saturday or sunday race. Now if we have more than one or two a month we are getting lucky.... (no im not talking about something else...)
  20. You say im not with three trailing dots... Sounds like you leaving the door open... Lets clear up the table here... If I had a team to ride with and costs where covered then I might just grow a rubber arm (3 dots)
  21. Im actually giving it a skip this year..... Never had enough interest at work to enter a team so the whole thing just flew by me. But its not all bad, at least I can ride to work every day now without worrying about saving the legs for the weekend.
  22. Very possible. If there is a group on each side of the road you going to have problems. On a side note... Does anybody know if the crossing at the N7 from the Philadelphia rd is going under the road? Last time I was there there was pretty major construction. If by some chance it is..... Start could be in duinefontein. Up westcoast road until atlantis industria area and up that road there. Onto the darling road Into darling Turn right on the R315 towards Malmesbury. (From memory the N7 goes under this road so we can go straight over into malmesbury) Two options here - either go on the R302 like many of our races - Or take the road less traveled and try the Old Malmesbury Rd. (Shortlegs rode it the other day, its bumpy but ok he says) If we on the R302 down to the silos, then up towards philadelphia. If there is a bridge/tunnel across the N7 and onto the old tree lined road by atlantis. Then back onto the melkbos / N7 link road and eventually back to the start. +-145km for the silos route +- 135km for the old malmesbury road Any takers....
