So after several off route excursion at the Momentum Duathlon this weekend I've decided to post some pointers to any race organiserson thehub:

1) The general rule should be - carry on straight unless there is a marker telling you otherwise.

2) If the route turns off the straight road put some bunting tape across it - if there is traffic put the bunting on the ground.

3) If you want to test your route marking do it on a bike - standing still and perusing the route marking is not the same as "sweat in eyes - balls to the wall" mtbing...

4) Make the route marking obvious - put the markers as close as possible to the route/path/sngle track so we don't have to slow down and survey the surroundings to find the markers.

5) Don't put markers where there is a likelyhood that riders will ride over them.

6) Tying bunting to trees/bushes works well - use loads of this - riders like the confidence that goes with seeing bunting every few hundred metres.

7) Use marshallls at key points - sometime there are so many options that you need flesh and bone to tell people where to go.

Anyone else with comments?

To me this is the single most important thing that organisers need to get right. The frustration that goes with being lost and riding in circles while you lose time is awful
