  1. In any race there will be some mud but not the entire route. So buy good cross country tires and take it easy in the thick mud. apperently thinner tyres are better because they cut through the mud to the hard stuff underneath instead of floating and sliding on top of it. I did the Sani 2 c int muddy conditions on 2.0 maxxis Larson mimo's without a single slip and they are XC tyres.
  2. Where in hillcrest is this ride?
  3. Hi, anyone in KZN do the mad max MTB race in mooi river. If so what did you think? New race so there was a small field, tough 50 Km trail and a puncture cost me 20 minutes. The free flavoured milk was nice though although the seconding table could have give a bit more than just powerade, bananas or boiled potatoes would have gone down well. I'll try again next year.
  4. what is bump, do you just type in the word bump?
  5. I have a GT avalanche PRO, which has wide handle bars more for "all mountain" whatever that is. The bike weighs 14 Kg with its thudbuster seatpost, and I need to shed some weight off it. I do more XC so I am thinking of putting on a carbon handlebar, but am not sure if it will make much difference in weight. are there any other benefits to a narrower carbon handlebar?
  6. hi Adrian, like the rest say, spend lots of time in the saddle, to get your cycling legs, although this can take up to two years. If you can ride twice during the week and a long ride on the weekend then you should be fine. Giba gorge is just around the corner from you and has some nice technical stuff to train on. also join a club so you can ride with a group and get help/advice from them. There is a race this weekend at Hilton, many distances to choose from and another on the 15th at mooi river. start with the intermediate races and have fun. check out entrytime.com and the roag website for upcoming races. see you on the track. James
