  1. So I got my bike back from BMC. Received the general service and serviced the front hub. Very happy with the service. Good communication. Bike shifts smooth. Finished my bike in time to cycle the weekend. Kevin gave me the lowdown about everything that was done on the bike. Final price was lower than quoted amount because he could salvage some parts instead of replacing. Defnitely not the cheapest service but I think if you are willing to pay a slight premium on good service it's worth it.
  2. Dropped my bike off at BMC. Will see how things go.
  3. Yep I agree on that. And communication is the key to good service. No surprises when you go to pick up the bike.
  4. Best service in Cape Town I'm looking for a LBS in Cape Town to service my bike. The going rate for a full service seems to be R 400 - R 550. Can this really be it? I find this very expensive. Or am I just living in 1995? Some stores charge less for the service but then nail you on anything that needs to be fixed. Can anybody recommend a reliable affordable LBS in the Cape Town area? (No Bellville is not Cape Town.) Any comments from shop owners also welcome.
  5. Ahoy Uil Nee ek moes 'n nuwe vurk koop. RS het my R1300 gequote om die vurk te herstel so ek het eerder besluit om te spaar en 'n nuwe een te koop. My nuwe vurk is awesome maar nou le die gebuigde oue in my sitkamer rond. So... if anybody needs spare parts from a Tora Air to fix up their own, make me an offer.
  6. I recently connected a very big rock in Deer Park, resulting in some serious back pain and a awesome summy. However, that's not the topic of this post. The steerer on my Rockshox Tora was bent. Can this be fixed eg can Rockshox put in a new steerer or does this mean a new fork? A gentleman from City Cycles told me that Rockshox say that they do not fix steerers anymore but I can't believe that a whole shock is written off because one component is slightly bent. Any advice/comments welcome.
  7. I'm actually looking for something a bit different from a normal mtb, just for the sake of riding something else. What brands would be advisable for BMX (will look into GT thanks)
  8. Guys and girls I want to get a commuter bike for the city. Not going to do longer distance than 15 km a day. I'm a mountain biker and would still like to enjoy my rides to work so want to get something that would jump a curb. What would you suggest? Getting a bmx or more a urban trick bike like those dudes on the mountain bike videos that balance on buildings edges etc. I really don't know the complexities of the differences between the two.
  9. I agree that the road going past Kayamandi from Stellenbosch to the N1 is not always safe and then the road going past Cloetesville from Stellenbosch to Paarl. But only the sections going past those two residential areas. Once you are away from Stellenbosch it's fine again. I haven't heard of any incidents in the Jonkershoek Valley but I do know that there is a growing "location" close to the gate that the town council is not doing anything about. So the current population is gradually growing into a township. Potential situation in a year or two?
  10. CT maybe not safe but a lot more infrequent than Gauteng. Anyway, haven't been riding over Pappegaaiberg for years. Like the man says, it ain't safe anymore. Bottom line is you have to ride in groups. Anybody read the article in Tread magazine about when and how to carry a gun when riding. Found that to be very shocking, that we have come to a place where a local mag tells you where in the group the gun should be and how many etc. Hate that it has come to a public statement like that.
  11. We're very fortunate in the Boland area and even Cape Town. I am not aware of many hijackings happening here. Any reports in CT area?
