  1. I'll give that a try...thanks GoLefty. Cheers, N.
  2. I'm now on my second Trek f/s bike...a '06 Remedy. My first was a VRX. The Remedy frame was the result of a 1-year-long warranty fight. Did I mention? Trek's service sucks balls, and in no way would I have bought another Trek...remember: warranty. Now, the problem is that both bikes' linkage have intensly annoying squeaks that develop after a short while. In the case of my Remedy, with about 2,000 kms on it, it's started. A while back I had the main pivot bolt come loose on a ride (surely Trek checks their frames!?) which put a bit of flex into the frame...now it routinely comes loose. Unrelated...as the squeaking started a month and a half later, it's now annoying me no-end. I know from past experience not to oil these pivots...so what do I do? I'm at my wits end and if this frame gives me anymore hassles I will be back at the distributor to fight again. Thanks.
  3. Sounds good; I'll give it a try in the near future. Thanks.
  4. I've heard that too, which is why I'm trying ot organize a big group...that said, it is a worry. Where is there not crime these days? I was one of the first in the country to suffer a bikejacking...a knife to an 11-year olds neck does nothing good. N.
  5. We used to be; that's the thing... The Honeydew Quarry was brilliant...this side of Heidelberg (various areas)...Benoni...Pretoria...F'ing development has killed them all in the last few years. I'm trying to organize Sabie in December, but getting all your mates together what with old age, marriage, etc. is somewhat of a Biaaatch. Hehe. I used to ride Logwood in the 24Hrs...but haven't for about 2 years now. I got an invite to Northern Farms a while back, and that was a bit better, but still not quite my thing. Yes, I'm picky. *lol* Now I do a lot of trick-riding around town...jumping cars is fun. *grin* Flame away... N.
  6. Thanks guys. I'm trying to setup a ride at Fountains with some mates soon. Logwood terrain is really not my kind of thing. Too flat and boring...I like the foresty technical stuff, and some trials around town. Cheers, N.
  7. Thanks Steve. The Greenhills bit sounds good. Cheers, N.
  8. Thanks guys. What a pity...S&A, and the Honeydew quarry had some of the best riding in Jo'burg...sadly they both fell prey to F'ing housing developments. I'm not really after club rides as I want to go for a bit of a free ride...exploring the trails, redoing the fun bits, etc. Perhaps Pretoria...Fountains, etc....that area. We'll give it a go. Thanks, N.
  9. 's up all? Many of the old-school MtB crew will remember the Sweat & Gears MtB playground next to CR Swart dam in Benoni...just down the road from the Bunny Park. It's been years since last I was out there... Does anyone know if this is still open and going? I'd really like to find some nice technical forest-type riding around Jo'burg or so... Any ideas anyone? Cheers, N.
  10. Thanks guys. ...helps put my Mind at ease. If it comes loose again, or feels jerky on the upswing, I'll take it in for checking, otherwise I'll ride it as-is. Cheers, N.
  11. 's up all? I fear I'm being overly paranoid about this, so do excuse me if it happens to be a daft question... This past weekend while out riding I discovered that the main suspension pivot [bolt] on my '06 Trek Remedy frame had come loose. It took us a few km's to work out that this was the cause of the odd ride. When I got Home I set about tightening the pivot bolt on my bike with the correct-size allen key. It is now tight, and although I can see a slight metal shaving on the exit side of the frame, I put it down to a tight fit. Nothing is stripped - this is a definate. My worry is that in order to tighten the rather snug bolt, I had to push down on the rear-half of the bike in order to line up the chainstays where the pivot bolt exited the mainframe, although not much, perhaps a mm or two. Should I be concerned about that line-up with regards to a slight bend, or metal fatigue in the suspension, or not? It seems to ride fine, and everything seems to be working suspension-wise, but the fact that I had to line things up ever so slightly is on my Mind. Am I being paranoid or what? Thanks, N. http://www.hkbicycle.com.hk/image/Trek/2006/2006%20Trek%20Remedy%205.jpg
