Aerobic base is everything, what good is it going to do if the girls have great skills but they ride at the back of the field? Its a complete different experience when one is going flat out fighting for position at the front and then trying to practice skill. The only benefit of sending a team overseas is if their physical ability is already half way in the pack otherwise they could just as well practice skills at home.

SA have zero women that would be competitive in lap racing in Europe. Yolandi De Villiers and Anke Erlank would be your best bet but as far as I know they are not even on the Olympic squad.

Cyclist of the year awards is a joke anyway, David George should have won alone. As for the woman... Marissa won the award on last years worlds, she certainly did nothin impressive this year, but then again none of the others nominated did anything either....Elsa who? and Cassandra only won a few races when all the other girls were in Europe. Cherise is the only one that did something impressivre in the junior worlds TT. Anyways the woman really need to shape up cuz womans cycling is a dying sport at the moment
