  1. Mainly trail running. 67 kg 1.87 m At one stage was down to 2% body fat.
  2. First of all...define safe. If you are saying that it stimulates testosterone receptors you will have the same side effects as taking testosterone. I.e. you will develop gynaecomastia and hypogonadism. It can't contain just ATP because ATP doesn't do things like act on testosterone receptors. In large quantities (that are not used) it will actually back up the kreb's cycle and probably lead to fat formation.
  3. Speak to the physio, they can tell you the cause: Bilateral = overuse Unilateral = muscle imbalance worse on one side than other = overuse I have had a few problems since I did Swazi 3 weeks ago. Should be running again in another 10 days. And just so you know, ganglion = mass of nerve cell bodies. And the ITB is not a muscle, it's the kind of aponeurosis where the tendon passes.
  4. Does anyone know any Jhb bike shops that sell the brake pads that will fit Formula Oro K24 brakes?
  5. I have been in there more than once and have been treated really badly. If you look like a student, they will no serve you and would rather focus on people that they think will spend money. Even though it was a mistake I do not like the people that run the shop.
  6. He told me that I needed a new cassette. I asked how much they were and he said I shouldn't go for the XT one because it is really expensive (i.e. R2500) but I should rather go for the SLX one which is R550. This didn't really make sense at all. The chain was even double the price that I could get it from somewhere else (R550 for an XT chain). Even if it was the crankset, their price for the chain is really expensive. It really didn't make sense that it was the crankset though because he had just looked at my bike and recommended the part, it wasn't as if I was asking for it and he didn't know what it was.
  7. When I told them that they were 5 times more expensive than the other bike shop they told me that we couldn't have been talking about the same thing. I made sure that it was a cassette that they were talking about and someone in the shop even said that it was exorbitant.
  8. Just on the topic of the whole price-fixing scandal, I went to a bike shop today and need to replace my cassette. I asked how much they were and for an XT cassette they quoted R2500. Now I thought that this was a little ridiculous seeing as though I had looked at CWC a few times before. There are two bike shops in my area, and so I booked my bike in at the (expensive) one just to have the gear cables changed. I went to the other shop and the cassette was 4 times cheaper. Now that is utterly ridiculous. How can bike shops want to fool people like that? That profit margin is huge, even with the argument that they need to support themselves. In conclusion, I will not support Tony Impey any longer. I do not believe in extortion.
  9. Does anyone know a place in South Africa where I can get a spare hanger or two?

  11. Well I am 19, 1,87m tall, quite fit, but more of the running kind since I am a foot orienteer. I am looking at eventually getting into longer adventure races like Swazi extreme, but at the moment I do need my own bike for shorter adventure races, the odd mountain bike race and mountain bike orienteering. I am actually almost thinking of now putting everything into trying to get the best softtail that I can for my money, so as not to have to upgrade as soon, my friend recently also got quite a good deal on one. It may be a bike in a million that I have to find, but oh well. Thanks for the advice.MtbO2009-12-19 16:57:23
  12. Hey I am looking for a new bike and would just like some advice and would just like to know what some of you guys think. I have been using a friend's old giant hardtail for some short adventure races (kinetic urban adventure) and some mountain bike orienteering, but I am looking into getting into the longer stuff so I need to almost invest in my own bike. Should I look for a decent hardtail or is softtail the way to go? It is my first bike, but since I am getting into the more "serious stuff" which would be better. Would it be better to go for new or second hand, I was thinking second hand because of the specs that I may be able to get? What specs should I be looking for? My budget is probably at most R10 000.
