  1. I am vey happy to hear that there were no claims made to you, however that was not the case with me and the person in question went to great lengths to tell me how his friend at SAA was going to heat treat the aluminium to de stress it after the repair. Perhaps he has realised that this type of work cannot be done. I think that he should just tell people that the damage is to great and that he cannot fix it!! Honesty work for me....
  2. My my, I seem to have caused a bit of a stir!!!! I am not refering to anybody but the idiot who conned me into letting him " FIX" the frame of my bicycle. I think that you completely misunderstand what i meant. To explain ---- I will not go ahead and blindly listen to people that profess to have knowledge without doing some investigation before i act. The frame of the bicycle that JB describes in his post is mine and the full story is as follows. I reversed my Land Rover over my GIANT TCR 0 Compact Road bicycle. Land Rover 1 --- GIANT 0. I then, on referral took the frame to a person that was supposed to be an expert to have the dent and crack repaired. He explained that the welding had to be done by some expert and that the frame heat treated to relieve the stresses that occur during the welding. When i recieved the frame back it looked great, with no sign of repair and a good paint job. About two weeks later, after a ride i noticed that there was a crack where the repair had been done and after some investigation noticed that instead of repairing the damage, there was a great big blob of body putty stuck to the frame. I proceeded to remove the body putty to find that nothing had been repaired and that the original crack had propogated almost half way around the frame. I was really angry because the frame could have failed catastrophically causing me injury. I then found out after speaking to JB that I was not the only fool to have been conned by this person. I was not going to persue the matter but after hearing that somebody els has suffered the same problem, i now intend confronting this person. As far as the caveat thing goes I was referring to my own stupidity and not that of anybody on the planet or for that matter the known universe. I hope that i have clarified this matter a bit and you can all look forward to hearing about what happened after i have spoken to the so called "frame fixer"
  3. I must thank Johan for his valuble advice regards trying to repair my trusty GIANT TCR 0 frame, he probably saved me from murder, if reading the other posts is anythinhg to go by. I would however like to add a caveat to all local cyclists. Be very very carefull to speak to well informed, if not qualified people before submitting to information about subjects that you know little or nothing about. I have certainly learned a lot from this experience as i cost me a fair amount of money as well as the disapointment of losing my favourite road frame. I will need to confront the person in question head on to find out what his side of the story is before I submit his personal details. What I can say is that he does not operate in Cape Town. On the upside, i am now a member of THEHUBSA. Is that a good thing???????
