  1. Happy new year Wow , thanks for the replies , wasn't expecting so many and such detailed replies Yes , Fox CTD I am interested in learning how . Shock pump to 500psi !! interesting ( think CTD only needs 350psi ) I already have a nitrogen cylinder and regulator ( used for race car tyres ) so thought it would be worth a try . The rebound and CTD leaver has been removed from the shock I have and it would seem from the research I have done that a complete strip down is needed to reinstall the mechanism . If I could I wouldn't mind buying the correct Fox needle adapter holder . Nitrogen or air I still need to be able to get it in there . Really appreciate all the replies
  2. Does anyone offer a refill service ? Or is the needle adapter available to purchase ? The rest of the shock rebuild looks reasonably straight forward .
  3. Ok so 10 sp is the way to go if I bought new ? Can I use a 10 sp shifter on a 9 speed cluster and just adjust it to not go to 1st ??? Are 9 and 10 sp rear derailers any different ? Or is it just adjustment ?
  4. Thanks very much for the quick reply . Some questions sorted !! What about my cluster I assume it's Sram ? Will it affect anything ? Is this 10 speed rear cluster story worth it ? thanks again
  5. I bought a stumpjumper and it came with Sram X9 shifters .They work great ,but I don't like the way all the shifting is done with your thumb ??? With my previous LX shifters you up changed with your forefinger and down changed with your thumb . If I were to change to XT shifters would they shift like my old LX ? Would I need to change my rear derailer or would a Sram R/D work with XT shifters ? XTR shifters look very well made are they worth double the money ??
  6. There is a product called Quick strip 10 from Hudson chemical here in the Cape that will do the job !! Problem is that it is like water so you are going to have to suspend the seat post into it ??? Forget sandblasting !!! Your problem is going to be the seatpost removal which could require heat and this heat is going to spoil your new powdercoating !!
  7. Thanks Martin , tried a search ,but couldn't get it to work !!!
  8. What does the UST stand for ? and how are they different to what ever else you get ???
  9. Welding detroys the heat treatment, which is a very important part of a alu frame's make-up. At least I have someone on my side !!! Everyone has their opinion and is entitled to it . If it were me I would happily fix it and ride it , but then I'm 40+ and not about to race and go mad on the frame . It's a great frame to rescue .
  10. There seem to be numerous hardtail mnt bikes 4sale in the second hand section for around R10000 . All with similar part sets ?? Yet you can buy a Silverback Sierra brand new full XT with rockshox Recon for just over R10000 if you talk nicely to your LBS . They are listed at R11600 full retail , less 10%?? Have prices come down ??? Surely a secondhand bike is worth less ?? Or am I missing something ?? Are the Ally frames that different ??
