  5. just wanted to find out if anyone else has also experienced what happened to me this weekend. my bike is fitted with sram force groupset. while riding this weekend, i changed from my heaviest gear (11) to a lighter one. when doing so, my gear lever broke under the hood and got stuck in gear. has this happened to anyone else or am i the anomaly?

    Tyres

Hi Need some advice on purchasing new tyres. i currently use vittoria pro tech 2 as a training tyre. i weigh about 88kgs. need to change them now due to wear. havent had much issues with them but havent been cycling too long to compare them to anything else. what im looking for is a durable tyre that has low rolling resistance. have been considering getting conti gp 4000s but had read a lot of bad reviews about it. should i just stick to what i know? thanks
  8. Hi wondering if anyone can help. im looking to replace the black chip holder that goes into the skewer. i have the standard black plactic holder but it has squashed so much already that it creates play in my wheel. so looking either for a lightweight aluminium holder or carbon holder that goes into the chip. i know the easy way if just to take cable ties and tie it to the fork but just trying to see if there are other holders besides the plastic ones. thanks guys.
  9. @ stryder which cycling stores in cape town are you referring too that one should avoid?
  10. thanks for all the feedback thus far. obviously i've been looking at the cycling stores and 2 of them had recommended vittoria techII. i know they are trying to market there products but can anyone help with this brand? thanks again Hubbers!
  11. hi in the last 6 months, i have gone through 3 rear tyres due to damage from punctures. i am not too sure if its the current brand of tire that i am using which is too soft of a compound (michelin) or if i just have all the luck finding the glass and other stuff that have been messing up my rear tyres. is there a tyre out there that is strong, can be used for training and racing, and will also give you mileage? also, not too sure if my weight has anything to do with the extent of the damage when picking up all these punctures as i weigh around 85kg's. hey, im just looking for some advise hubbers! btw - this is for road bike tyres.
  12. thanks guys this is really useful. i just dont want to spend so much money and end up buying the wrong stuff. the only reason i asked this question is at the store i plan on buying this groupset, and at other stores, they have told me that a lot more people are moving towards the compact crank. not too sure if anyone can answer this, but with a compact crank and 11-23 at the back, what would that more or less be equal too with a regular crank? still around 12-26? hope this doesnt sound too confusing as if i explain this more, i think i will end up even more confused. again thanks for all the help!
  13. hi i am planning on changing my groupset and was looking for some advise. one of the questions i had was co should i choose a compact crank (50/34 or the regular 53/39? i do struggle a bit with climbing but dont want to be completely reliant on lighter gears and loss of top end speed. as this is not something a person buys all the time, i want to try to get the best advise before making this purchase. currently riding 53/39 cranks and 12/26 cassette. and yes i know i need to get fitter so lets leave that any thoughts?
