All sorted Thank goodness, no more brakes squealing like a banshee. I will still have to bed them in first (using the correct method this time.) No more squelchy brakes either, I think they will need to be bled, which I will do on the weekend with my new bleed kit which arrives tomorrow.

So when do you come over to the dark side and get a MTB?

I've had a look and there doesn't appear to be any fluid around the nipple, I'll give it a bit of a tweak Hopefully the sanding down of the rotor and the new pads I've put on will make this terrible squeaky brake affliction go away.

This for me is one of the biggest threats to a complete breakdown in society as we know it - stupid human rights, what about the rights of the victims(whatever the circumstances)

That's what I also read in the link on this thread, best to do the hard stop then just slowly holding the brake lever in.

I've got a feeling that this is what is happening with my brakes, as it's only the front one that does this. I guess another visit to the bike shop is in order. I'll have a look myself later as well, were you able to sort the problem out yourself?

Yip, chainring bolts are all fine. Sanded the rotor last night with some 100 grit I had for about half an hour each side and will see how they go today. Will still sand them further once I'm at work.

Warm or cold weather makes no difference, when hot or cold makes no difference either, but there is a point when I pull my levers and they don't feel smooth if want of an explanation, its kind of hard to describe the sound and feeling the brakes make when I'm braking hard. The squeal at the slightest of pulls on the lever. On a side note, could these still be salvageable?

Looking at those pics and how rough they are, then prepare yourself for what I'm about to show you, guess it will need to be done on the belt sander tomorrow I've also posted pics of the pads, I sanded these with 100 grit earlier and they sure didn't look like this. What could be causing them to get contaminated so quickly though? Is it from the daily commute, training or a possible leak of fluid as they seem to be a bit on the "softish" side when pulling the levers even though they are set to take very early. They were checked out by a bike shop recently and they didn't find any sign of possible leakage. I may be clutching at straws on the last point. Thanks for all the help, much appreciated

I'll take a pic for you now, let me just them off my bike. I didn't want to sand them to rough as I was worried this might lead to further contamination down the line with the discs being rough. SHould I sand them with only 60 grit or then work down the grades to get it fairly smooth again?

I've tried all of the above, and still not helping, could it be that it's not actually the pads or rotor causing this? These pads have done very little mileage and I've already sanded them almost to nothing, but all to no avail. Very frustrating. I only started to have these problems since moving to Cape Town, but as you say, how should this effect anything. It could be that I'm commuting and riding more on the road then I was in Durban( trained mostly off-road), even then when I was training on the road, I never had this problem.

Since I have moved to Cape Town from Durban, I'm finding that my metal brake pads are getting contaminated on a regular basis, I never had this issue before but in the past 3 months I've had to replace my pads again from the noise they make. I've tried anything and everything to sort this out but am getting nowhere with sanding or cleaning etc. I commute on this bike as well, but I can't afford to keep replacing pads this regularly because of contamination rather then wear on the pads. I have just ordered a set of resin pads to give a go with and a new set of rotors(in case they are also contaminated) This is a costly exercise and as mentioned previously I cannot keep just forking out money. Any suggestion on what I can do, or what pads are better then others to use?

I was wondering this as well, will you become a concept store? There are two more opening up soon, I've just finished cutting all the slat walls for them. They are in Joburg as far as I know.

Was that you on the cycle path this evening about 6.15pmish, with two other guys and you were on the green machine?

It was a woman drunk at 3.00am Sat morning in her Fortunner, just chatted to one of the tow truck drivers that was on the scene, she apparently lost a wheel somehow which caused here to roll. No one is 100% clear as to what actually happened.

I've been trying to work what happened here, couldn't see any skid marks though. I almost rode into the sign lying on the floor while looking at the whole in the wall this morning
