  1. Hi there guys,

Please be aware, the veld between Atlas Road And Great North Road close to Bonaero Park is a danger area. Two people have been dragged into the bushes and stabbed several times over this past weekend for their belongings. I know there is cyclists that frequent this area a bit.

Both patients transported to hospital for further care and is doing fine.

    Please be aware.

  3. Condolences to the friends and family of this Cyclist.

Yes, the Helivac Marshals, Sign-up provide Marshalling Services on these routes over weekends. But, we need support from the Cycling Community. The Motorcycle Marshals is everyday people with a passion for Cycling Safety. That is why our motto at Helivac Marshals is: Cycling Safety is our Concern.

The Motorcycle Marshals give up their free time over weekends to promote safety amongst Cyclists and Motorists on these routes. The connectivity with Helivac is that JP sponsor some funds to cover fuel, hi-viz jackets and a Paramedic.

We want to expand our services even more, start covering Sundays as well, but we cannot expect guys to do this totally voluntary due to costs etc.

We want to help, we want to be there to keep the groups safe, guys, we need your help.

  4. Yip, we are trying our best. Since beginning of February 2011, we will be on duty every Saturday morning in the Alberton South Areas.

I you get into trouble, please dail the call-centre immediately on 0861 helivac, that is 0861 4354822. The Lexus will be send to your location, as well as a Motorcycle Marshal.

  5. I really enjoyed the race and would be hard pressed to find anything to fault.

If I had to gripe about something, it would have to be about the guys starting ahead of their start groups. There were quite a few DL's and even an EL or 2 in the CL group. But in the end, no harm, no foul.

I would like to thank the marshal on the motorbike, that chaperoned the CLs, for his excellent work. I feel it did make a difference in safety to have his presence at the front of the group.

And also, high five to the guy in the blue kit that broke away with me with about 15km's to go. It was good fun

That was (Tiny) Deon on the Motorbike...Will give him the message, thank you.

From The Helivac Marshals, A huge thank you to the organizers for a race well planned and executed. We are proud to have been of service to the organizers and cyclists.

Thanks to all the cyclist for an enjoyable day.

  7. Once again, Thank you to all the cyclist that participated in the race, it was nice to see such a lot of participants coming out for the day. From the marshalling perspective, yes, it was interesting. Especially from the front. Those are problems we will discuss and remedy with the organizers as we go along.

The 'not so nice' thing is that we had cyclist swearing at us. Calling names etc. this while we were trying to keep them safe and make an enjoyable race for everyone. The Helivac Marshals motto is "Cycling Safety is our Concern" working together with Sign-up and Right to Ride, we are trying to promote awareness amongst cyclists and motorists alike.

We rely on the support from the cyclist to make this campaign possible. Being sworn at and not being listened to, is going to have a negative impact on some of the Marshals. We are trying to get some more people on-board and not scare them off. The way forward with this at races is to rely on the more senior cyclists to dissipline these guys in the bunches. So please guys, next time, kick them off the bicycle, cause these kind of attitudes does not belong on the road. 'Share the Road" remember?

I had the under 16/14 group on the 62km race. I must apologize to the guys here. It was a small group with an early break-away by 4 cyclists. I remained with the big group at the back while to commissaire followed the break-away. At the first water point the 62km turn was not well marked and no foot-marshals available to indicate the turn. To my knowledge, it was a very dangerous turn and I elected to leave my group and take control of the situation at the turn-around.

I controlled the turn around, stopped the traffic to allow the cyclist to pass through. Some oke's did miss the turn and had to back-track. For this I apologise. I do not know why there were no foot marshals positioned there.

Other than that, we had an enjoyable race. We hope to all at the Berge en Dale, as well as the Macsteel.

  8. Just on THINK BIKE - fantastic! I can't say enough about what a great job the guys do. Although I live in the East' date=' I drive all the way out to 4ways on Saturday mornings to be able to ride with CycleLab because of their structures and relationship with Think Bike. CycleLab have had their fair share of problems because of some riders still not obeying basic rules, but the fact that they have Think Bike guys, and Marshals on their training rides makes a huge difference - WELL DONE guys![/quote']

Not adverse to doing this in other area's either, but Club 100 and Cyclelab have worked hard on the relationship.

Agreed getting back to the point, we bleed when you bleed, we know how devastating it is when a family member is lost. It is just so senseless and needless.

We need to band together and do this

Yip, being a thinkbike Marshall and newby cyclist we have tried to meet with some of the East Rand Cycle Clubs to put something together for the East Rand Cyclist. We had no joy, meetings gets postponed and then never materialize.

I live in Kempton Park, so does alot of the Thinkbike Marshalls, i would rather help out in my own suburb than ride all the way out to Fourways...

So, anyone want to put something together on the East Rand Side with Thinkbike, PM me...we are more than willing to help, try us, you will not be dissapointed..

(sorry for the bad english, I are a boer you know...LOL)
