  3. Grondpad the price is a lot cheaper than somemultiple day events, but more importantly you get a whole lot with that: - Hot and cold showers & yes tent & mattress - Full evening meal and breakfast plus no lunch but there are two to three water points depending on the distance with themed local snacks (vetkoek, koeksisters, eat sum mors etc) instead of lunch - Full support - medical, sweep & pickups, transport of your bags to the next days event, water tables, - Access to these game reserves - access and overnight fees. In fact you would never normally get access on a bike to these places. - tog bag & top etc etc So I think if you compare apples with apples you will find its reasonable. And no its not aimed at the overseas market its very much for us...and you come ride it
  4. More info at www.jozi2kozi.co.za and max 100 riders for the first event
  5. Hi Rad006 In answer to your questions; The dikwiel race was 17 km's and 34km's I can send you the .gdb (GPS) map of the route which indicates this. Did you take a short cut? Maybe we must take the prize money back To compete in the decorated section you only had to participate so you could have done one lap and qualified. I agree that we must split the dikwiel and the mountain bikes. Remember however that the purpose of the dikwiel race is to encourage participation by locals on bikes which they have and which they are not normally involved in racing on. So although it is timed and there is prize money it is a developmental race and not intended to be highly competitive. I have noted your comments about the lead vehicle and other logistics, which will be built into our planning Thank you
  6. I am one of the organisers of the race and am very sorry that some riders experience was such a negative one. Equally many many riders had a great time and enjoyed the ride. A number of early teething problems were experienced, primary among these the late arrival and inability of the Metro Police to do full road closure, resulting in traffic chaos. The elite race was shortened as it would have been unsafe to continue. As one of the organisers I apologise for this traffic problem and will be addressing it with the JMPD. In the early 94.7's I recall lots of abuse and unhappiness due to the new road closure, dealing with this is a process for the authorities, cyclists and the public alike. A race such as this represents the future of cycling in this country, without mass participation in cycling through this kind of event we would all be being short sighted. There were the road races, dikwiel and BMX races, each a way in which people get involved in cycling as a whole. Each one of you will benefit as a cycling community as we develop the sport in places such as Soweto. I can assure you that all the issues raised here & other learnings from this event will be built into the planning for a much improved 2008 event.
