  1. MTB HIJACKING I am sure that everyone of you is as concerned about the escalating problem of bike-jackings as we are. There are several plans and schemes in place to try and curb the problem, move it away from your own door-step, recover bikes and many more. I think we need to co-ordinate our efforts and get rid of the problem once and for all. A great deal of good work has been done already and this must not be discarded or neglected however I would like us all together and begin to resolve this crime spree that is going unchecked and unnoticed. Thanks to Mark Thjis, we have started to get this problem out to the media and tomorrow at 6:45 I will be on 702 on the John Robbie show presenting our problem and our desire to help resolve the problem with the local communities. But we need to meet and discuss the problem, so Date: Wednesday, 12th May 7pm (late but I want to maximise the numbers). Place: Primmi Design Quarter, upstairs. Design Quarter is in Nicol Grove, off William Nicol, close to Monte Casino. Format: Semi- Formal, meeting with structure and an agenda (will be sent but please forward me any agenda items for consideration. Who: Addressees (Clubs, CGC, CSA, MTBers) but please invite anyone else relevant to the cause Topics: Safe route for all, community help and involvement, Prevention, Detection, Recovery, registers ?..(examples). Please do everything in your power to attend or send a PROXY<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  2. Hi All Obviously a heated topic, and I have recently been a victim myself. Maybe it would be wise to get Carte Blanche involved, as this would not only raise awareness to fellow cyclists, if they are not aware already, but as they are an investigational programme, therefore in their best interests to get to the bottom of issues. It would no doubt make good viewing, and hopefully lift the lid on where our prized possesions end up, at the same time get some answers from SAPS stations, and there personal as to what exactly they get paid for? I feel that we are being held hostage by criminals, and while there is a thriving stolen bike market, these incidents will only increase, these stolen bikes are not been stolen for private use, but rather for financial gain, therefore should be easier to find, as sooner or later will be advertised to the pulic, either as a complete bike, or stripped down components. While I agree with trying to protect oneself, just don't let a rush of blood to the head, put yourself or others in your group at risk, and believe you me when you are attacked you will not have time to undo a backpack or anywhere else to access your weapon. Just my two cents worth, but if anyone agrees with me, and has contacts, lets use them.
  3. Hi Not sure where you were going with this, but the reason people keep riding here, is maybe, like myself are blissfully unaware of these attacks, hence the reason for my post. Brett
  4. Hi The incident occured at the gate at the bottom of the hill, between Florahaven and Chartwell North, but apparantly the move between here and the entrance to Northern Farms. But our incident happened if you cross the bridge, just after Heron Bridge, from Northern Farms towards Broadacres, just after the bridge turn left over the low level bridge, then go pat the "splat ball range" on the road, then as you turn right at the gate to start going up the hill, right there. 5. On Sat 10/04/2010, around 9:30 in morning, at the gate entering Chartwell North at the bottom of "heartbreak hill", we were attacked and two Mountain bikes stolen. There were three of us riding, all guys, and we were attacked by two armed black men, one with a gun and one with a knife. They were very agressive, and I beleive had the opportunity arisen, would have harmed us. The reason for me posting this information, is shortly after the incident a mixed couple rode this route, followed by a sigle cyclists, then another couple. After having spoken to the sector policing, it appears that this was the third incident in this area on consecutive Saturdays, except on the previous occasions the cyclists had been roughed up. We followed the tracks of our stolen bikes, and they went along the river towards Diepsloot, crossed the river and were inside the outscirts of Diepsloot, this is not even 2km from the site of attack, so a very convenient, crime site<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Whilst I beleive riding on Nothern Farms is relatively safe, as they now have guys riding around and checking the entrances, I believe outside the farm, particularily towards Broadacres is a not safe at all. Please inform cyclists you know, as this is now very dangerous pattern that has developed, and am sure with recent success, the attackers will become even more brazen, and dangerous.
