  1. I have no problem with the 100% increase in the entrance fee. Until recently R25 was dirt cheap considering what you get. Never mind the constructed trails, it's JONKERSHOEK ! One of the most beautiful and safest spots in the country for hiking and cycling. And remember that, even if you stay off the constructed single tracks, you could still probably do about 50 to 60 km of jeep track access roads with minimal track overlap if you know the roads and plan your route carefully. I have been riding these exact same roads for 30+ years now, starting with my old dikwiel backpedal ! It is, however , unfortunate for someone like my wife, who takes a leisurely cycle around the traditional circle route up to Witbrug and back (she can't do much more than that...) and then relaxes at our secret spot by a stream with her feet in the water while waiting for me. As so many have said : Time for the familly season ticket !
  2. A devastating fire is not a nice thing, but it certainly gives the undergrowth a chance to come through. The Watsonias in Jonkershoek are especially beautifull and abundant this year ! http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/124275034.jpg
  3. Still beautiful after a devastating burn. Only Jonkershoek can pull that off. http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/118842225.jpg http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/118842231.jpg http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/118842227.jpg http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/118842220.jpg http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/118842218.jpg http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/118842223.jpg http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/118842230.jpg http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/118842234.jpg
  4. It's foggin Cape Town !
  5. Very nice shot !! If I were one of those three, I would want this on canvas for my wall !
  6. Scala ! Old Marines training base in the 80's. I lost A LOT of sweat on that specific concrete road !
  7. Either way, nicely done !
  8. AN3, click on the photo name beneath the photo. That will open it in Flickr. On the right hand side you will see all the details. The lighter "band" around where some of the darker areas meet the lighter areas means some Photoshop work..

  12. That's straight off the R310 just below Tokara ?
  13. Just the other day I had to accommodate a rider overtaking his buddies up the hill at SFC/La Pineta/Louw se bos on the R44 (Somerset West to Stellenbosch) at 7:30 in the morning. That's the busiest time of the day on that road. He went about 300mm over the yellow line. He moved suddenly without lookin and without warning. To these riders: Please consider the emotional stress that the poor innocent driver has to go through for the rest of his life knowing he knocked down a rider that jumped infront of him, while you are enjoying the long comfortable back-road ride in the sky (where you may ride 10 abreast if you like ! .
  14. Very true. If you going to hoot, do it well in advance. The hoot is probably going to cause the cyclist to try to look around to the right and that is going to cause him veer right.
  15. I don't ride on the road anymore...not ever, But i did for very long and I've had my fair share of heartstopping experiences. Being a cyclist I'm very cycle concious on the road, but, eish, some of these roadies make it difficult not to stop a 100m in front of them and throw them with cow dung !! 2 Saturdays ago at the Klipheuwel intersection of R302 (from Durbanville) and R304 (to Malmesbury) early morning and in thick mist a group of about 6 to 8 cyclists ride in the direction of Malmesbury with 2 riders 500mm from the yellow line in my lane !! In the mist I was onto them so suddenly that I could not count them. I can be very lucky there was no oncoming traffic as I had to suddenly swerve ! Luckily 95% of cyclists are considerate and responsible. And don't even get me started on the 5 % of my fellow MTBers who don't know how to slow down for pedestrians, or, no matter how many times they have to brake sharp for oncoming cars and bicycles, still cannot figure out that Jonkershoek is anti clockwise .
  16. Often on some of these beautiful spring mornings, I would take the backpack with the camera along and ride along the back roads, not to get fit or get faster, but for this !!!
  17. Hi I've decided not to go duel sus and R8000 max. My short list : Serfas XCR3 Scott Aspect 10 BMC TEO4 Focus Fat Boy Felt Q620 Any comments on these ? Regards Pierre
  18. I'm also open for suggestions on dual suspensions. Can't go more than 12k to 13k. (I've got back problems and this was the neurosurgeon's advice) Looking at the Merida 120 500 and the Scott Spark 60
  19. Hi Now I've ridden Scotts, Meridas, BMC, GT, Giant and Cannondale in that price range. Considering the Scott aspect 20, Merida Matts TFS500 and BMC Teamelite TEO4 Havn't come across a Ghost yet...
  20. Never mind ! Took it for a test ride yesterday....awful bike ! Worst that i've ridden yet. Difficult to explain, but it feels like I cannot dare to let go of the handle bars, because it feels like it would immediatly jack-knife ! It really takes effort to get it into a direction. Gradually leaning into a turn does not cause the bike to follow. It just jack-knifes the front wheel. Now looking at the BMC Teamelite TEO4
  21. BioMouse Seems you Gauteng guys get better prices ! Just yesterday I called Cycle Lab Tygervalley Cape Town, because I'm currently looking at the 500 and they quoted me 8500. Four other shops around Stellenbosch and Somerset West was also 8500 with Masons in Stellenbosch the cheapest at 8000 !
  22. Hi I am currently looking at the Cannondale SL2 (2011). I only have R7000 to spend. It is a replacement to my Scott Tampico (Now with bent frame !) of about 8-10 years old... I don't know much about components, am I upgrading or downgrading ? I supose it is at least an upgrade.... I am a very relaxed and recreational rider. Won't do much more than 50km a week and mostly jeep tracks. (The knees can't do the uphills anymore and the back can't do the technical single tracks !!) What's your opinion about the bike ? What else is there for R7000, R7500 max ! Thanks ! Pierre
  23. Bump : Going price is R8500.....
  24. Hey, anyone know how to unsubscribe from a specific topic so that you don't receive email everytime someone posts a reply. With this new look, it seems that function dissapeared ?
