  1. Don't forget that the luggage handling (ground handling) isn't being done by the airlines themselves but other companies dedicated to such services.

So, in general, usually it's not the airlines fault if an item gets damaged during transport but the handling agent chosen by the airline for his service..

And then it comes down to the individual handling your item - he might have a bad day or simply be to weak to handle it and it gets damaged. If the person has a good day your box might come back out again with a small scent of roses and a smilie face drawn on the box.

If you want your bike safe pack it accordingly. If it still gets damaged you have a good reason to complain!

To met it's alawys more important

  2. Hey Rob! why don't you cycle to the little bike show and have it fixed? Crackondale must have a stand there somewhere? :D

How far are you from eurobike?

I am literally as far away from the Eurobike as you can be. Imagine having it in Cape Town but you live on the border to Mocambique.

(But I'm actually going south tomorrow for the weekend and will ride the Stelvio Pass Saturday - with a rental Specialized (spit) nogal).

  3. I call BS on that statement Rob. My past 4 bikes had BB30. No noise.

Nolipoli......as Vinnydabutcher pointed out........tap it out with a hammer. Get the right tool that slots in and gently tap. You should be OK.

BS as in bull***t? I have three bikes with BB30's and they all annoy the hell out of me. All bikes younger than 1 year.

And as everyone who does some tech chit chat knows it's not an unkommon problem. Sometimes locktite does magic, but not always.

  4. rob1, no conspiracy I know of, but maybe with your knowledge of racing - as shown in your response to nochain - you could explain it...

Where have I shown you any knowledge?

All I know is that I'll clock off in 30 to ride my bike instead of speaking about it.

I'm one of those people born without any talents and have picked any up along the way. The same comes to knowledge.

But we are on the hub, right? Lucky me!

  5. In my opinion, time to go ride overseas and get your real worth.

Exactely! Go and race overseas and proof yoruself and collect points there. Substract the points cherise has won in South Africa and during African champs and it will make pooof.

Show your dedication, take that hard way, proof yourself against a vast and strong competition in Europe.

  6. I would love for someone to explain to me what these so called helpers will do in a race like that to "help" Ashley....maybe CSA should tell us what the plan is.....if any....send some helpers to sit there and do what?????

damnit! you need someone to explain road racing to you! back to basics, 101.

  7. ZA may only take 3 cycling girls to the games' road race. It's not about functionaires taking up a money of a cyclist ehre.

The above listed UCI rankings shouldn't be taken too serious, but not neglected easier. When the girls race in Europe it's usually all about helping Ashleigh to get the best possible result - which is what team racing is about. Only then comes the own position. If you get to do a few races where Ashleigh is not riding you can aim at your own results and points.

And obviously when the team gets put together it will be done to have the best functioning team working for the strongest - Ashleigh.

Such selection will always lead to discussions afterwards. A tough one I wouldn't wanna take. The decision is taken now however, so now support them girls. (And the hockey girls of course, if they are going?! :-D )

  8. Anyone know where I can get a Conti Race King 29 by 2.0 Protection in Johannesburg. Desperatly looking for fast durable back tyre

It's not a durable tyre when you have rocks - the sidewalls are to thin and start unthreading quickly. Unless you are only looking for a tyre to use in non-rocky terrain I'd go for a different one. Not sure how other non-UST tyres perform tho.

  9. Uhmmm silly argument

Canyon, Cube, Focus (ok u got that one), Kettler come to mind.

Pretty good bikes i would say

  10. Yes china, it is a fact which I never denied. My experience showed me that teflon isn't very durable and on cables it quickly peels off and jams the passage. Fact.

Also Teflon tends to "rub off" quickly. Them cables are quite thin and there's a lot of pressure and friction on the thin edge so to say. Quickly the teflon is off and it's a normal stainless steel cable gliding over the metal inner side of the cable outer. Sadly the rubbed off teflon doesn't evaporate afterwards.

  11. that's for 2 weeks in a litte self catering studio. It's 335EUR per week, and there are 2 of us sharing it for 2 weeks(it can sleep 3 but that means spooning on the sleeper couch, haha). So that works out to 335EUR each. If you're taking ssomeone youdon't mind sharing a sleeper couch with, and another person, it becomes even cheaper

    A good price.

Take some hot chick and spoon her and whatever! 1) Pleasure 2) she reduces your cost. Lekker

  12. so... are you taking your bike with?

Well, this will be my first trip, so new experiences all round.

But Morzine (France) seems to be a popular place to stay. Access to plenty of lifts, and trails. That's where we're staying.

Here are some maps of the general area

    http://www.summerinthealps.co.uk/images/Rhone-Alps%20Images/map.jpg

As for costs, it hasn't been too bad so far. Here's our estimated budget:

    1. flights - R6000 (bargain on Emirates)
    2. Accomodation - R3500 (for 2 weeks)
    3. Lift Pass - R1500 (for 13 days)
    4. Shuttles from Geneva Airport to Morzine and back again - R1500
    5. Visa - R700
    6. Daily Spending (food etc) - R4200 (that's based on R300/day just to be safe)

So that's just under R17 500 for 2 of riding in the Alps. If I go stingy o food (which i plan to do) that will come down by R1500 or so. Granted R17 500 is still quite a bit of money... but put it this way... it's cheaper, longer duration, and more fun than an Epic ;) *puts on flame suit*

ZAR 3500,- for two weeks accomodation? Or are you talking about per day?
