Loraine Kalp Bloemfontein - Jealousy and an alleged love triangle apparently caused a local man to take his bakkie and run his wife's friend off his bicycle during a cycling race. The friend, Eben Jacobs, apparently wasn't badly hurt. The 47-year-old husband is behind bars and will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on a charge of attempted murder. Police spokesperson Superintendent Annelie Wrensch said Jacobs and his friend took part in the Toplay-Engen cycle race on Saturday. "A few kilometres from Lourier Park the woman's husband drove an Isuzu double-cab directly at the cyclists and hit Jacobs," Wrensch said. Some of the cyclists who had taken part in the race said that Jacobs had tried to get away, but had been unable to do so.
