Did no 21 this year and as usual it was a good one only gripe I had was the new starting chutes It was a real slep to access the orange chute if you have to go over that bridge Otherwise these people know what they are doing . Started in L and finished in 3:51

Done 2 DC's in 2012 we had all 4 seasons rain hail sunshine wind in 2013 it was the worst race ever for me got sick the day before the race our team mate crashed in Tredouws me landed up in hospital after the race and our team mate pass away 2 days after Christmas because of his injuries So not good memories of DC but still it is a challenge one have to do before hanging up the bicycle

This year I did my 19th one and it was by far my worst It all started going haywire at the start going up the first hill I bent the rear derailer hanger when I stood up and was lucky that the rear derailer didnt went into the back wheel . changing gears was very frustrating with the slipping of gears and the chain falling off, with in the first 10 km's I had to stop 3 times already . Luckily I saw the bike machanic station at the first waterpiont and was helped there to bend the hanger back to its normal position .But Ive lost already 15 min in the race so I decided to take it easy and try to enjoy it witch I actually did until Malibongwe when we hit the full force of the wind .Going up the long hill to the Lionpark I saw one or two riders falling off their bikes because of the wind. I eventually finished in 4:22 a whole 30 min slower than my previous slowest time . Next year hopefully I will be back and train a little bit more for a PB on no 20

This wasnt a race it was hike a bike will never do it again did a 7,7km/h ave on a 24 km race pushed the bike more than riding it

During the 2013 DC in Swellendam one of our team mates Barend van Staden of the Randmark SOS team lost control of his bike on the decent in Tradouws pass resulting him in colliding with a wall .He was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital in Worchester .After a few days he was diagnosed with Lock in Syndrome caused by a burst vein in his brain and was a quadriplegic (spelling) .It is with great sadness to inform you that he passed away this morning The Randmark club lost one of his young members in this festive season.RIP Barend we will miss you. Randmark cycling.
