  1. Thanks everyone...there is plenty of advise here which I need to go through. I agree that I may need to stretch and get fitter. I am sure that the more time you spend in the saddle the more your body gets used to the position and movements. I have just moved my handle bars down a bit, which may account for the added pressure on my hammies. Thanks again.
  2. Hi all, I am experiencing sore hamstrings during riding and then stiffness after. I thought that you quads and calves were the major muscles that took strain during cycling! Any reasons why they would get sore and anything to fix it. Thanks.
  3. Where is the most common area for cramps for cyslists? Being fairly new to the sport...and having cramped once pretty badly I am interested to hear. I started in the quads, then the hamstrings started, then a funny muscle down the inside of my leg. The fun times ae when you get off the bike because the cramp has hit your quads and you can't ride on...and then your hammies cramp when you try stretch your quads...and then your quads cramp when you...well you get the idea. The end result is usually standing in the middle of the track looking like you just sharted!
  4. Thanks, does gu really give a boost? Does it help with cramps?
  5. Had a tough ride this weekend and used energy bars (PMV) because thats what I normally have. The reasons being the price and the taste. But the body felt like I had ridden across Africa and not only 40 odd kms! Looking at the amount of gu and other sachets lying around the trails during races they seem to be the carbo snack of choice, is it because they are the best thing or because thats what everyone takes so they must work? Please can I have some input from the Hubbers on this one.
  6. My goodness! What a day. It was like riding a harder gear all the time with the mud. It gives you some perspective on how good Burry and the boys are...we had a 66km start and they came in before the majority of the 45km race. The markings were not great, I think most people got lost at some stage, and when the going is that tough the last thing you want is extra kays! Anyway the course must be great when dry!
  7. No footage of him riding there on the show...I was there that day and he did the race, at an easy pace.
  8. The problem with the giba piece on Supercycling last night was that we saw too much of Andrew and not enough of the trails! In fact I don't recall seeing any trails, only the jumps and BMX.
  9. Just a quick race report I did the 40km classic at Cown House in Hilton yesterday. What a great day out. The race briefing mentioned climbing and single track...and they did not disappoint! Plenty of climbs up the jeep track and great technical decents in the Mondi forests around Hilton. It was a tough race, well I hope some of the other riders agree with me! But certainly one well worth adding to the calendar. Have a great week everyone!
  10. Giba is worth every cent! Great trails that are always being worked on, new single track, great coffee shop, loads for the kids to do(BMX, fund rides, guided rides) a gallery for non riders, first aid station, cyclelab shop for sales and servicing...and no I don't work there!! For R30 you can ride at least 40km without repeating the same trail. In fact it sounds so good, I will be there again this weekend!
  11. Hi all, there has been plenty of discussion about the tragedies in KZN recently and the protest/awareness ride that didn't go as planned. How about a club member/budding entrepeneur driving a car or van behind groups of riders for protection. The riding community is generally not short short of cash and would pay for the services of the following car. I see some cycling clubs have 'team' cars which would serve well as back-up safety cars. Surely if there is a vehicle with its hazzards flashing driving at the back of the group, other cars using the roads will be aware and hopefully more careful. I know that there are many different rides that take place on any given morning, but maybe they could combine to ensure safety(meet at one or two designated spots). I don't think we will change the motorists mindset over night, so we need to take the initiative to protect ourselves. Just an idea...
  12. sherbit, if the province has disappeared then this thread is pretty pointless, no? Don't stress they have probably just changed the name...again!
  13. Yes I am in...sounds great!
  14. Hi all, I am desperate for an entry for the 40km race at Karkloof this weekend. Anyone know of anyone who may have entered and fallen ill or managed to injure themselves or the mothers day pink ticket has been revoked... If not ave a great weekend!
  15. Anyone been to Shanghai? What suggestions do you have for shopping for bikes or equipment there. And what handling fee should I charge Hubbers for shopping requests!!
