  1. Follow the main gravel road from Asara as indicated in the image for 2km up the hill to link up with the red/purple and yellow loops.
  2. As of tomorrow 01 Feb 2014 day permits will be available from hotel reception at ASARA Wine Estate. The reception is open 24/7 so permits are available early morning. Enter at the main security gate off the R310 Rd between Stellenbosch and Kuilsriver. Parking available at the "P2" parking lot, furthest point from the entrance.
  3. Please note that the 2013 permits will expire on 31 December 2013. There won't be any "switch-over" period in January, as the 2014 permits have been available at the selling points since the beginning of November From 1 January 2014 you will not be allowed to ride the trails without a 2014 permit. 2014 Permits are on sale at the usual outlets (most cycle shops in the Northern suburbs, Stellenbosch and Somerset-West – please see the website for details - http://bottelaryhillsmtb.co.za/ ) Please renew your annual permit before going away on holiday. Annual permits also make great Christmas presents. PERMITS BOUGHT NOW CAN BE USED IMMEDIATELY, MEANING NEW BUYERS CAN RIDE FOR FREE TILL THE END OF DECEMBER. The cost of the permits for 2014 are as follows: Adults R450 Spouse of adult permit holder R350 Pensioners R250 Students R250 Under 18 yrs R150
  4. Don't you think the corporate sponsors get more "bang for buck" from aligning with MTB events vs Golf days/events? Possibly social media is active for longer periods before and after MTB events vs golf days. Almost like there's more hype and a longer period of exposure. Do people review, post, tweet, FB, etc etc as much about golf days as they do about MTB events? Speculating.
  5. Updated that post on our site, we no longer run a deposit board but a disposable one.
  6. There is still day access, visit the website for info.
  7. As a landowner I've run out of comment regarding arrogant, short-sighted, simple minded, selfish people who think the world owes them a place in the sun to ride for free when and wherever they like.
  8. 2014 Annual permits are now available and valid from the day of purchase until 31st December 2014. This means that you get the last 2 months of 2013 free. Visit the "permits and fees" section on our website for more info.
  9. STBB deserve a medal for the quality of the event they organised. They set the bar high last year and cleared it comfortably this year. The Overgaauw Estate is a great venue and the finish certainly one of the most scenic on the calendar. Was a pleasure to have them host the event on our trails. Also a big thank you and a thumbs-up to the participants for leaving very little behind on the trails.
  10. Do the goodie bags include an extra set of legs and a sense of humour ? On the mend after slipping a disc so riding with the kids. Enviious of the guys doing the 45 k. Remember to stop, smell the flowers and enjoy the scenery. Have fun out there, its for a great cause !
  11. Bottelary Hills MTB permit holders and would be day visitors for this Saturday. Please take note that we are hosting the STBB event on Saturday morning so plan your ride for Saturday mid afternoon or Sunday.
  12. double post
  13. Just got an update on the overall condition of the trails from our Marshalls. Considering the weather we've had, the trails, especially the singletracks are in good condition. Some of the farm roads suffered damage which will hopefully be repaired soon. We not through the woods yet as there is more rain in the forecast. So overall the trails are riding well but be on the lookout after heavy rain for weather damage. Rain predicted for Wednesday but should be fine for a ride by the weekend.
  14. The intimidating chicane on the upside of the "optional 2.4km singletrack" through Wolfkloof Valley has been rerouted. Took us a while to figure out an alternative but we have and its rideable.
  15. You can buy permits at Radish from 08h00 onwards, if you want to start earlier then start from Devonvale.
  16. Zevenwacht Country Inn. R50 deposit for bikeboard, R50 for ride.
  17. We looking at alternatives for the the first two "up" switchbacks. Too tight, very few will manage the turn and make it over the rock.
  18. Hi guys. I'd like to re-affirm that no night riding is allowed on our trails. Do not start your ride if you know you will not make it out before dark. If you need a light to see where you are going then you don't belong there. Got an irate call from a fellow landowner wanting to know why riders ( at least 10 ) were on his property at 20h30 last night.
  19. Would love to fulfill your wishes however, in the near future their exists a distinct possibility that the area in question be fenced off to accomodate some Cape Buffalo. So unless you fancy your chances and have Sagan legs I assume you would be in agreement that it should remain a wish. We would rather not spend time and money on a short term trail to join the return purple when it could be better spent elsewhere. Aprreciate the feedback and enthusiasm and all suggestions and comments pass through the mill for consideration. Rider feedback is after all the best measure of a trail.
  20. Can be done as Mountain Lion explained, will be included as one of the "Route options" but will not be named as an individual loop.
  21. The plan is to further widen the bend to allow you to turn before climbing. The blocked off option has a hairpin that is far worse and will require continuous maintenance. Some of the other climbing bends also require a little work to get them just right.
  22. The big build for the year is a new addition to the Red and Purple routes and arrives as an optional addition to your ride. Be aware however that it is more technical and challenging than our existing routes. It requires some bedding in and will be tricky in places so have your wits about you. You're bound to grin or even smile on the way down, but the climb back out will wipe that off your face. The image is a rough one as I haven't plotted it yet but you'll get the idea. So if you up for a challenge then look out for the signage as indicated on the image. Adds about 2,5km to your ride.
  23. I'm not going to say too much about the "New Green Loop" other than it will test your climbing skills and fitness level. But of course you can dismount and push when you run out of gas and still get to enjoy the view from the top. I'll reserve further comment for those who ride it tomorrow.
  24. Annual permit prices have been adjusted for the remainder of 2013 and are available at all annual permit selling points. Take note that these permits are only valid till 31st December 2013.
