  1. Hi Mopkop. Please be advised that no night riding is allowed on Bottelary Hills Trails. Sunrise to sunset only. If you need a light then you are either too early or too late.
  2. Hi Covie Riding is from sunrise to sunset ....... if you need a bike light to see where you're going then you're either too early or you should've been off the trails already. Besides the whole farm security issue with riding at night we are also a conservancy. Almost all the mammals that occur here are nocturnal and the only peace and quiet they get is at night. Any form of light or activity disturbs them and places them under unecessary stress.
  3. We are looking into a "guest" option but still need to finalise and decide whether to go ahead with it.
  4. BOTTELARY HILLS MTB TRAILS TO BECOME ANNUAL PERMIT ACCESS ONLY Since opening the Bottelary Hills MTB trials in April 2011 there have been issues with riders not paying to ride. Efforts to curb this have been ignored by rogue riders and elevated to a point where landowners are fed up and the future of the trails is in jeopardy. We also need to support those riders who buy annual permits and thereby support us in the expansion and maintenance of the trails. As of 1st February 2013 Bottelary Hills MTB trials will become an annual permit holders only trail, meaning no more day-permits will be sold and no freeloading will be tolerated. From 1st February 2013 security guards will be on the trails to ensure that riders have the necessary permits. Trespassers will be dealt with as trespassing on private property and charges will be laid against transgressors. To enable riders to try out the trails and decide whether they want to buy an annual permit, the trails will be opened to “day riders” on one Saturday per month from February 2013. On those Saturdays day permits will be sold at the Hazendal and Overgaauw entrances to the trails. These are the only points where day permits will be sold. At the end of 2013 a decision will be made whether to continue with the “one-Saturday-a-month” day permits or not. The fees for both 2011 and 2012 were R360 (pro-rata R270 for 2011 as the trails were opened April 2011). Fees for 2012 were not raised as there was limited singletrack on offer. In view of the singletrack added during 2012 along with costs of maintenance, an increase in fees is justified. Plans are in place to further extend the trails and increase the amount of singletrack. This is only possible if riders pay for the privilege to ride the trails. Please note that the above does not mean you can ride without a permit until February next year. Day permits must still be bought as usual until the end of January 2013 - see website for details of sales points. (www.bottelaryhillsmtb.co.za ). Annual permits for 2013 will be on sale from Friday 14 December 2012. Visit www.bottelaryhillsmtb.co.za to see where you can buy your annual permit. Buying a 2013 permit entitles you to start riding during December 2012.

  7. This coming Saturday we have STBB hosting an event on our trails, the trails remain open but plan your ride for Saturday afternoon or Sunday if possible to avoid the traffic jam.
  8. A multitool was found on the routes this past saterday. It has an engraving on it. Contact us via our webpage FB if it belongs to you.
  9. Red Route description: http://bottelaryhill...za/?page_id=678 Singletracks not too technical, depends on the speed you're doing, the faster you go the scarier it gets. If you feeling intimidated then slow down. There are one ot two short "technical" downhill sections, once again ride them within your limits. Not sure whether you going to be able to ride this weekend though, weather predictions not looking great http://www.southafri....asp?area=77241

  13. I know its been a long wet winter and we're all chomping at the bit to get on the bike. However the rain we had today has resulted in an enormous amount of runoff and undoubtedly major damage to most MTB trails on the Cape Peninsula and Winelands. People often don't realise the damage they're doing riding muddy trails after rain. May seem like fun for some but will only compound the damage already done by the water. With more rain a narrow MTB tire rut has the potential to become a small donga. Rutted tracks also need more maintenance to get them level again once dry. So for the sake of the trails and the guys who've put in the hours to build and maintain them give the trails a break this weekend.
  14. Thanks for the heads-up Bergbok. Will see if I can get the landowner to fill that up for us.
  15. Walked the new singletrack section on the Red Route yesterday and again today to see how it held up to the weather. Is still fresh in places but overall it held up nicely. This was done to deviate from a downhill section of trail that is prone to erosion.Opens up great views towards Tygerberg and Table Mountain. We opened it up on Friday and route markers are in place.
24hr Caltex Starmart by Bottelary/R44 kruising verkoop ook dagpermitte. Dan ook Radish restaurant (voorheen "Only One") Paar nuwe stukke singletrack onlangs bygekom, met nog wat binne volgende twee weke sal oopmaak.
  17. Annual permits are now available for the remainder of the year at Half year prices and are valid until 31st December 2012. Please visit our website for more info. http://bottelaryhillsmtb.co.za/?p=1346
  18. Hi everyone. We're busy with singletrack maintenance on the Green Loop so bear with us. Be aware that it will be loose and soft in places, there are a few changes as well. Should be finished by the week end. We will be doing maintenance and making changes/additions on other parts of the trail system as well. Along with that we will continue upgrading the route markings where we haven't got round to yet.
  19. You tried Bottelary Hills MTB Trails yet ... start from Overgaauw Wine Estate. Day permits available from 6am. http://bottelaryhillsmtb.co.za/?page_id=1263
  20. Riders from Middelvlei or Overgaauw can also make use of the Long Green as another distance option. By exiting the Red Route they can return to start via the Long Green which links up to Long Purple.
  21. Hi guys We've made an addition to the Green Loop called the "Long Green Loop". It extends the existing green loop and by taking this option you add another 5.7km to your ride. So if you only doing the green loop and take the "Long Green Loop" option you will end up around 22km total distance. Also adds another 270m of climbing. It is however a very worthwhile addition and is a stunning piece of trail including 1.5km of forested singletrack which is part of the Red Route. There is a very nice piece of jeeptrack we wanted to make more accesable and we wanted to make it easier for riders from the green route to access Ribbok Run singletrack. The route signage is up so there's something new for the weekend.
  22. We've updated our website with "Route options maps" to make it easier for people to choose a distance and start venue. http://bottelaryhillsmtb.co.za/
  23. Annual permits now available at Geco Cycles.
  24. Someone found a pair of sunglasses on the Bottelary Hills MTB Green Loop. Please contact us if you or anyone you know are missing a pair. info@bottelaryhillsmtb.co.za
