  1. Thanks for all the replies gents! Much appreciated. Thankfully the pivot bushes and bearings weren't in a terrible state, I just gave them some love with a clean and some fresh grease all round, and now they're running like butter on frying pan left out on a hot summer's day. SMOOF and quiet! 🤣 Thankfully the issue only happens when I smash the front brake in an unnatural way, and then it clicks again when I pull back on the bars, once it's seated it doesn't do much, and it's not like I smash on the front brake like doing a stoppie all the time. Anyhow, was at the LBS on Saturday for a good couple of hours, it's definitely the fork, either steerer tube, or stanchions in the crown as we've literally rebuilt the headset and replaced the crown race on the steerer tube, as well as the top spacer that fits between the top bearing and steerer tube. I'll see if I can get the bike to Stoke ( @droo ) either Friday or Monday (weekend is my daughter's 3rd birthday, so day is booked). Anyhow, I found the below vids as well, the sound is almost exactly like in the first video, but just amplified due to the fork being installed and tightened in the frame, etc: https://youtu.be/LFvPNWAH6Kg?t=30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3U5okPm9Sn8 Then I see there are chaps who do this sort of work locally, so hopefully refitting the Steerer Tube and stanchions with some loctite or "special glue" does the trick, but thankfully it's not a major issue. Cheers!
  2. Thanks for the recommendation man, but I'm in Cape Town - But there are some good suspension guys around here, will check what my mechanic and I can figure out and make a call.
  3. Hi there man! Thanks for the reply - I've tried checking online what the correct bearings are for my bike, but unfortunately I can't get much info and the bearings seem to fit correctly, there is a spacer for the top bearing that fits snug on the steerer tube and two steel washers, the fit seems fine, but I'll ask my mechanic to take a look tomorrow to confirm. As for tightening the headset, I do tighten the center cap bolt first until there it compresses everything nicely but still moves freely, then only do tighten the pinch bolts and torque to spec. I must say, Scott's support for documentation is terrible, I can't find any technical diagrams for my bike on their confusing and over complicated support portal.
  4. I've pulled apart the rear this week and just serviced the bearings (removed dust covers/shields, cleaned/degreased, and repacked them with fresh grease), the rear is smooth as butter now and there aren't any creaks/cracks from the rear. I am planning on replacing all the bearings next year though. The "CRACK!" sound happens when I break hard on the front, like doing a stoppie, and again when the fork goes in the other direction when doing a wheelie/bunnyhop pull on the bars and the front wheel hits the ground, so I'm 99% sure it's got something to do with the headset/fork, but I'll ask my mechanic at my LBS to take a look/listen tomorrow as well just to make sure.
  5. Uhm... Merely stating where I got the bike from my guy... Your post seems a lot more irrelevant to the topic than me merely mentioning that I purchased it from a well know Hubber... The ideology behind me mentioning it's from a well know hubber, is that it's not bought from gumtree in an unknown condition, etc. I.e. bought from someone who does service the bike before hand and gives some form of mechanical warranty, etc. Hi there, thanks for the input. The first service was done at an experienced mechanic, but I need to learn how to work on my bike myself hence I took the headset apart to take a look - Going to my LBS tomorrow with the bike for an experienced mechanic to take a look and make a recommendation. Howdy! Thank you for your response. I've already checked the rotor and caliper bolts and torqued them to spec, the sound can also be recreated when bouncing the bike on the rear wheel when fully vertical, so definitely something to do with the headset/fork.
  6. Hi there all, Trust you're well on this lovely Friday afternoon! So I purchased a 2019 Scott Spark 910 from a well known seller here on BikeHub, and I've been having some challenges with the bike, I thought I'd get some input from you guys. When I just got the bike, there was a tiny bit of play on the headset/steerer tube (when you rock the bike back and forth with front brake pulled, you could feel some movement on the top side of the frame). - I then took it to a LBS to take a look and they replaced the bottom bearing which apparently wasn't the right bearing and it was fine for a while. I then noticed, as of late, there is a big "CLACK/CRACK!" from the headset under sharp heavy braking, and again the same loud "CLACK/CRACK" when I pull up on the bars (like doing a wheelie or bunny hop), and the front wheel hits the road. I then took apart the entire steerer assembly and cleaned up all the grease, inspected everything (which seems okay to my novice bike mechanic eye), and regreased everything and reassembled, but alas, the issue persists. I was then told by another mechanic that I may have to remove the crown race which sits right against the crown and squirt a bit of WD-40 into the steerer tube as he's seen this on quite a few FOX forks in the past (I actually found this article on Pinbike as well: https://www.pinkbike.com/news/pinkbike-poll-has-your-crown-ever-creaked.html) So today, when I get some time I'll take everything apart again and remove the crown race, and spray some WD-40 and see if it sorts the issue, but I'm not sure this is the issue. I found some other articles stating it's got to do with the cable ferrules binding and snapping in and out of place (but I find this hard to believe, albeit I want to redo the all the cabling on the bike at some stage anyway). Any advice/feedback/input on above would be GREATLY appreciated! Other than that, I've given the old gal some TLC (cleaned and lubed the BB/Crank Spline, removed the rear triangle and rear shock to give all pivots and pivot bearings some TLC, new chainring, etc), and she's been a blast to ride on my local trails, especially when pointing her down some of the gnarlier stuff. Have a great day further!
  7. Must... Resist... Posting... *veins popping in forehead* @PygaSchmyga Okay... 🤣 Anyhow, I'm out (for real now). I've said what I wanted to say and did apologize for stepping on toes regarding the person/account/business who made the offer. What a lovely tea party this was. 😆
  8. Again, twisting and contextually raping what was said... Where did I say riding the epic is the measuring stick of technical knowledge? From a 15min encounter with someone I never met before, this was the only way I could know if this is someone who at least has spent some time on the saddle. But yeah, this sort of reply makes it clear the jist of my previous post was accurate, seems I am now the target personally here and doesn't matter what I say, it will get twisted into being wrong or me being a "noob" becuase I've only made a few posts here, or somehow turned into an unethical seller or something of the sort. Have at thee. I'm out.
  9. Lol - Typical... EFF voter by chance? You want to stink up the place with nonsensical attacks and namecalling, but don't have the mental capacity to respectfully respond to the counter-comment/argument. Anyhow, you clearly lack the tact to discuss something in a mature/concise manner, so I guess this will be my last energy I waste you your snotty remarks and unecessary name calling/attacks.
  10. So if I have to respond to all the keyboard warriors here, I won't ever have time to actually go ride again.. To those who want to think I got emotional, or went on a rant, or whatever else the KB peanut gallery seems to think, I could honestly care less. @PygaSchmyga- I love how you continue to call me names, attack me for whatever you and your KB warrior mentality deem necessary and completely misread into my emotions/demeanor. Maybe @s14phoenix wants to tell you how lucky you are that your account isn't deleted for attacking a new member. But this seems to be a hypocricy with a bunch of school yard laaities. I asked for the thread to be locked as I honestly don't have the time to sit and reply to a bunch of opinionated/arrogant/narrow minded defenders of the internet/2nd hand bike market, it's clear that nothing I say will be subjectively/objectively analyzed as the mind-lockout is engaged and bias towards me for DARING to (apparently) brutally verbally abuse and name and shame the poor oke, and having the blatant audacity to ask a question/state my opinion on a public forum as a lowly peon among the magnificent majesty of the long time/senior members (regardless of my experience/age, etc) was one step too far and it upset the natural balance of the universe, seems to have damn near flipped the polarity of the planet and caused a global cataclysmic event by the way some people here started attacking me. So to the KB peanut gallery: Think what you will chums, I could honestly care less, your locked-out minds/bias toward anything I say seems to completely overshadow the substantive subject matter/facts of the scenario and your delusional/fictitious views on how I apparently feel or think is quite far from what I actually feel or think... What I find the most hillarious are the "you attack anyone who disagrees with you and try to rally a mob carrying pitchforks and torches" garbage comments. You okes seem to take what is said completely the wrong way or out of context... when I was the one who was almost immediately attacked by the band of KB-warriors after daring to step on your mighty swollen heads and egos. That said, I drove out all the way from Durbanville to Somerset West with the bike today (yes, I'm actually a very friendly, honest and nice guy when I don't have to defend myself against a mob of attackers 🤣). The bike was sold, a few grand below my asking price, the guy (who has been riding for long himself, as well as his mate who has done the Epic, etc), both were extremely happy/impressed with the immaculate condition of the bike and concurred one will struggle to find something in the same condition for the price, so hate to say it, but I told you so. 😉 Also, to state it again, since the fogged up lenses of some of the KB-clan, seem to have missed where I already admitted I could've anonymously addressed the low-ball topic, and it wasn't a personal, emotional tangent/attack on the person who contacted me, I was actually hoping the person would respond and we can have a civilized, mature discussion about it. Albeit the initial post had some more "snideness/spice" to it, I come from a background where any forum disussions are usually of said nature, so again, here in the eyes of everyone, I do apologize for stepping on toes. This is my final post to this mob of angry Jack Russels aiming for my heels, and again, a sincere thank you to those who actually had something constructive to add and didn't immediately attempt to disembowel me with a machete. Happy riding and be safe out there. ❤️
  11. Certainly did the job without any issues... May I ask what you ride and how many kms do you ride/what is your elevation gains per month? 🤔 Some people seem to think overspending or having a fancy bike makes you somehow more elite/better than the guy next to you who will ride rings around you on his cheap "junk". Just coz you're fortunate enough to have more money to splurge doesn't mean you need to be an elitist yuppy or an arrogant tool.
  12. Fair enough/be that as it may... but I asked you to show me something that is for sale now/something one can buy today. The prices on everything has gone up, look at what any 2nd hand motorbikes sold for 3 years ago new, 2nd hand and what they sell for 2nd hand these days. Does this mean people should just stick to the prices from 4 years back? Especially if the item for sale was only purchased by the seller not even half a year ago? Not sure when last you looked at dual sus 29er prices? You get bargains, but at what cost? You get pigs, at what cost? You get well looked after bikes, at what cost? To put it in perspective, a 2019 Spark 910 can be had for anything between R39k and R45k, a 2022 model new costs R110k, so you either have to pay for what is available, or go buy new, and new of 4 years ago vs new of today is MUCH more expensive.
  13. Again completely off target... Just to help you find the mark... the poll wasn't about making profit, wasn't about the fact that people are free to negotiate, wasn't about whether my asking price is fair... it was about what I (and a fair bit of other community members), seem to deem a low-ball offer, and whether the voter falls into any of the three listed categories...
  14. I get how business works, I was not personally attacking them, I admit, it would've been better to use "someone" instead of naming them directly, but it is what it is. Like I said, the mods can close/delete this thread if they feel the need to do so.
  15. This line of reasoning is amazing... absolutely impeccable. Do you offer training sessions online, so one may obtain this skill in life? Anyhow... clearly you didn't grasp my keyboard warrior comment... nowhere did I say anyone who disagrees with me is a KB warrior... go re-read what I said, then try again. I paid R30k 4.5 months ago, I spent over R6k on it, which includes a brand new drivetrain, and put it up for R32k NEGOTIABLE, did I say R32k is the only price I'll accept, do you understand what the word negotiable means? In your line with your amazing reasoning, one can never ask more than buying price... have you ever sold a home/property? Maybe you should attack anyone who makes profit on anything they sell? Maybe go take on every retailer and say it's unethical for them to buy cheaper than they sell... or maybe even go record your interaction with a used car salesman when you tell him the same nonsense you're spewing at me here, and see how that goes. At R32k neg, I'm not even breaking even... nevermind making profit. Again, I applaude you for your amazing reasoning skills.
  16. Not sure how every 2nd poster seems to think I got emotional? Not like I was forced to accept, but sheesh, seems the tact some people lack is just par for the course... 45% less of asking price is an audacious slap in the face. I merely asked if this is the norm here, which doesn't seem to be according to the votes on the poll. All good man, not being condescending or anything here, but please show me a 2019 Spark 970, in immaculate condition (the stanchions aren't even faded yet), with a basically brand new 1x12 NX drivetrain, serviced, well maintained and with extras, for R20/23k. Coz then I overpaid by R10 to R7k (and from what I can see on the market, this isn't the case), you see 960s with SX groupsets for R36k these days. This thread isn't, never was, and never will be about my item on sale... it was about how someone makes an offer of 45% less than asking price, and how some (according to the poll, most in fact), consider that as low-balling, as most votes are for fair negotiations over low-ballers. It was also Leon (The Bike Vendor) who sold me the bike, I knew I was paying a tad more for it compared to others, but the bike was, and still is, looking almost brand new. So not sure who you're referring to in this post. 😕
  17. My bad, the derailleur is also new, so to be clear... full new drivetrain other than BB and cranks. Not sure why my asking price is the focus of this thread now? You seem to have missed the part where I said price is NEGOTIABLE...but again, in my moral code there is a difference between say, neg within a few grand of asking, vs. low-balling R14k off the asking price. I obviously want to try get the most I can, hence I start higher than what I expect to get.
  18. R30k + major service + Brand New SRAM NX 1x12 kit (chain, cassette, shifter, csixx chainring), grips and guard, I'm also adding an extra set of new grips (same as on the bike), and as stated R32k neg. Please lock the thread, I'm quite over this now to be honest.
  19. Anyhow, I think this thread has served its purpose and I do not want to bicker and get involved in a urination competition with the rattle-can-choir that seems to be lurking in the shadows... The poll also gives an overall idea of the people who frequent the forums, which seems positive for the most part. 🙂 Thanks for everyone who had something constructive to add. @The Ouzo - I hear you bud, done replying here now - Don't have the steam to entertain the vampires/trolls. 🤣 Can a moderator please lock this thread?
  20. Again an empty can rattling in the wind... why comment if you don't even have any context as to the item in question? Everything is stated in my add, not going to waste my time entertaining this open drain of a comment to be honest.
  21. Jis MORNE, hoe lykit my maatjie? Are you simply grabbing figures and stats out of nowhere and trying to sound clever? Nowhere did I state anything about a 2015 29er... It's actually a 2005 26er with V-brakes, best technology in the industry. Another clever fellow with lot's of priceless input, more valuable than my overpriced bike. This being community, and this being "chit chat", aren't I free to post a topic such as this one? Are you an administrator or moderator here? For me, I certainly could care less about "cancel culture", for me it was merely a topic I though I'd like to get input from the community... There was a thread about "my brand new isn't everyone's brand new" - So is that also an infantile attempt at "cancel culture", as you so eloquently put it? But back to your question/statement... Yes pal... Audacity... I have ethics... for me, it is audacious to offer someone R14k less than a listed price on an item listed for R32k neg. Go try that at any store out there and see how that pans out - but the anonymity of sitting behind a keyboard and screen turns everyone into the bravest of brave keyboard warrior with the tact of a 22 year old Nigerian Prince scammer it seems. Perhaps the store clerk will then dish out some infantile cancel culture to your face and tell you to get out of his shop. As for your argument on "Supply and demand" - I certainly understand it, and I feel your point is totally and utterly moot, as the market definitely isn't flooded with bikes in the same condition, with the same specs or year model as the one I have for sale, so I feel my price is fair, considering I paid R30k (excluding shipping), Major service and drivetrain installation, plus the actual drivetrain as well as extras such as 2 sets of grips, and mudguard etc. So my R32k neg, is definitely a good starting point in my opinion, considering the bike looks basically brand new for the most part.
  22. Defintely not overpriced by R10k, there are similar bikes on the market for more than my asking price (which is negotiable btw, but again my neg. seems to be another's low-ball). That said, not sure how this is a rant (I even have a poll! Lol 🤣), merely engaging with the community to get input, etc. Also, most people's replies have actually been quite meaningful/insightful, or at the very least... entertaining, so not sure where you're coming from to be honest... But thanks for the reply nonetheless, I appreciate your meaningful insight and taking time to add your R2.50 to the jar.
  23. Yeah for sure, didn't mean to come across as attacking @WeBuyBicycles- like you said, this just left a bit of a sour taste as I've only done 3 deals on BH and the people I've dealt with were great thus far. Man, this is a great idea... you willing to front me the capital? I'd be willing to pay back AT LEAST 45% of what you loaned me. Hahahahaha
  24. I too ask for a better selling price 99% of the time, BUT, defintely won't have the audacity to offer R14k less on a R32k asking price. 😂
  25. Jis ou Faan! Hoe lyk dit boetman? Het jy enige iets konstruktief om by te voeg of hou jy maar net van baie praat? 😀 Mooi Vrydag ou maat! 👍 👍
