  1. Stolen: Giant TCR 2016 When: 19 December 2020 Where: Cape Town, Western Cape Bike was stolen from a backyard area at night. Get further details about the incident in the Stolen Bikes section
  2. Thanks for the comments guys. Looks like even polite behaviour isn't enough! And even other cyclists get treated with aggression. Aggressive behaviour is the issue? How about we take photos of the aggro riders - its never acceptable to behave like this - post the photos here - and contact their bike clubs/shops/kit sponsors and let them know the behaviour going on. Might not help much, but could have an effect. Dogs and children running about are a feature of park riding - how about a code of riding conduct - slow right down, call out a loud greeting - 'howzit!' or 'hello!' and ride as if the dog/child will run in front of you. If you're in the park for serious downhill training, you are in the wrong place, surely? Again, this behaviour is not from the majority of riders.
  3. Hi All It seems that some of the MTB riders in many of the Jozi parks are putting pedestrians in the parks at risk. There seems to be little regard by SOME MTBikers for people walking on or near the paths the MTBers wish to ride. From personal experience, some of the bikers are bombing past people walking in the park, passing dangerously close and not adjusting their riding to minimise risk to pedestrians. The vehicle with the highest energy, in this case the bikers, which would pose the greatest risk in a collision, should yield. Further, when a rider approaches a pedestrian from behind, shouting "Get off the ******* path", goodwill, respect and other civilities are minimised. Pepper spray comes to mind... What should the pedestrians do? What should the riders do?

We have a few customers who would welcome riders in their groups. Regards Tristan Bergh Ride coordinator, Northcliff cycles tristanbergh@northcliffcycles.co.za The shop: 011 476 2110
  6. Hi steve That's strange - we coordinate with all the riders beforehand to canvas the riders' intentions. Our standard route is 60 km, from the shop, out to Kloofzicht in the cradle and back. With added loops or different routes we can ride a 5 hour monster or the 40km short ride you mention. If you still aren't getting any joy, speak directly to me tristanbergh@northcliffcycles.co.za or Alex, the shop owner. He can be reached at 011 476 2110. Regards Tristan Ride coordinator, Northcliff cycles.

  9. are you guys talking about your baggies under your eyes?
  10. that's unfortunate! i shall have to keep my wits and my tazer about me on my cradle rides then.
  11. i understand that some of the movers and shakers in cycling actually went out and had a discussion with the guy and the issue is closed.
  12. hi a fellow rider lent me his multitool to fix a loose saddle, just before the jeep-track climb. he asked me to return it at the halfway point, but i couldn't find him. if you lent me your multitool, please contact me - i'd like to return it. thanks!
  13. oh, and thanks for the great photos, amateur! you're helping it grow! Timekeepers were Ruan and (F)lloyd from Northcliff Cycles... Hotspots and last lap were signalled with the N'cliff Cycles "arooooogaaa" horn!
  14. hey - i came to chat!!!!!! damn, that was really fun! c'mon guys, there's some really good cornering practise at least, at best you get some great traffic-free speed training. Kudos to Alex for organising it - it took months and lots of effort to get the lease agreement with the Dome management. Alex said he started his racing this way, at Tuesday evening crits in Kempton Park. Some more South African champions on the way?
  15. hey, just to add to the kudos for Northcliff Cycles - great service, quick response times on any small jobs and a free bike wash after a ride from the shop while Alex still feels like it... they serviced my road bike and the brakes felt even better than when they were new. I'm also VERY happy with them.
  16. yes, mrmed - i agree! i have had good luck in my roadying - i look onto the road and try to avoid the bad bits (glass, holes, passed-out mtb'ers. in my younger days *creak* i also seemed to avoid punctures off road on my boneshaker by choosing the least risky regarding glass, roots, sharp rocks and passed out mtb'ers... all those sharp bits on a bike play hell with your tyres....
  17. another point - take a drop with 1.5 bar and you'll break rims... going over general single track probably needs a littlemore than 1.5 bar..... also suspension and tyre-pressure combinations are important. too little and the suspension will not be properly activated - all the gibve is in the tyre. too much and there's not enough grip and youmay get skittish, imprecise steering. the suspension manufacturers recommend pressures, do they not? as do the tyre manufacturers. what about damaging the sidewall with too low a pressure?
  18. nice article thug. interestingly they DID control the rolling resistance variables by referencing them from a lab test.... (par 1 page 2) i am satisfied that they controlled the variables effectively - how else to test the effects but by riding? On the surfaces to be investigated? I will say that the author could have discussed means to control the speed - i would hazard a guess that he did many runs and took those closest in speed, but that's guesswork and so easy to criticise that he would have conformed it with his supervisors. I would go with his statement that the rider must balance suspension setup - hard/soft, riding conditions - south african single track is hard-packed earth, mostly - and application - single-track/downhill/pure cross country where there IS grass. I agree with the soft sand principles - the author is showing this in his paper, because, whenever i've ridden on grass, it is equivalent to riding on soft sand, since the grass is like a springy carpet. i would say that soft sand or mud is perhaps even more giving than grass. praps a good read of the paper is required again, as the paper presents a separation of environmental factors and lab-tested RR.
  19. Scorpione, that's lighter than some of the other frames - for an excellent price. Best place for reviews/testimonials?
  20. hey daemon - there you go - another beautifully crafted italian handmade frame to further mix up the mix!!!!!!! thug, i rode her last night, mmmmmm. hit 71km's down the mineshaft no prollems, and smoooooooth - i love it. only 3 laps and knee ok, so i'm on the road back. i can heartily recommend a biokineticist for anyone serious about their riding - get assessed and strengthen those weaker muscles. your physio will be able to recommend one.
  21. Guess which frame... MONOCOQUE TORAY 600 1K WING HIGH MODULE FORK K3 SLOOPING S-M-L-XL-XXL FRAME WEIGHT 850 g INTEGRATED SEAT POST CIOCC: http://www.ciocc.it/english/home-page-eng.html
  22. Just had lunch with a friend who raced for Cyclelab. Cervelo: too jittery and skittish - compliance was wrong. Trek Madone - like riding a farm gate. Specialized tarmac: beautiful. He said he looked down almost as if to check that he was on a bike, it was so smooth. I will state too, that in my own opinion, at the top of the range, the construction of the frame is much of a muchness. So there you go, Daemon, get a Lapierre ! LOIL.
  23. i have no idea why it didn't work... but there you go. Lapierre ridden by Philippe Gilbert. Sad sad non Lapierre ridden by...someone else...
