  1. Hi, thanks for great info on which saddle. Currently have a Selle SMP saddle, which I love, but they don't seem to be available. Any Idea where one could buy one? Thanks, R
  2. Hi, I do this route at least once a week, mostly solo. Would say it is somewhat technical with some steep bits, but just walk the tougher bits? But worthwhile.
  3. Hi, Newlands over Kirstenbosch then Cecilia works well when the wind is blowing?
  4. Cool, thanks. I also have a 96/7 GF Tassajara, which is what I started doing mountain biking on. Fabulous bike, very well made.
  5. Hi Mook, perfectly valid question. Yes an extension for a steerer. Is your extension one you bought, or made? Thanks, R
  6. Hi, has anyone safely used stem-extenders on mountain bikes? Have been reading a bit, but seen nothing conclusive. Thanks, R
  7. Hi folks. A friend from Jhb will be in Paternoster towards the end of the month, and we keen to do some, say, intermediate mountain bike trails, together. Are the Darling trails (!Kwattu and Wolwefontein) marked out? Any other suggestions? many thanks, Rodger
  8. Hi folks, with the plethora of other sport happening tomorrow, any suggestions about where in Cape Town, one might watch tomorrow's stage of the Tour De France, it being Tourmalet and all? Cheers, Rodger
  9. Hi Thorsten and other folks. I ride a Sido 3 and really enjoy it. But, looking at the second-hand market, there does seem to be a difference between what one can buy for R13K and R20K. So I would suggest buying the best bike you can afford, which, if it is R20K, might not be the Sido. Look for a good groupset, in good condition, and go from there. Good luck! R
  10. Ag, was hoping to ride DBX as my first mtb race, but now entries seem to be closed? I have looked on the website for any indication of a closing date, but found none. An visible entry closing date would help avoid disappointments.
  11. Hi folks Does anyone know where(in SA) I might buy brake pistons for older XT (M785)brakes. Either original or these aftermarket ones on Amazon. Tnaks, Rodger
  12. Hey folks Thanks for sharing great thoughts! Started core exercise. Must still look up what 'Bird dog\ Dead Bug' are. heading to physio tomorrow. It is now clear that I have to do maintenance exercise as a way of life. Have many great rides, Rodger
  13. Hi folks I am really enjoying my mountain biking, but every few months I go through a period of back pain. Have had this pain occasionally for decades(am 57). Can anyone reccomend exercises(core?) that support their cycling? Thanks, Rodger

Hi Droo, thanks so much! Done and dusted! The thread in the boss was a bit messed up, so getting the new screw in was a bit of a mission, so I used as large a washer, 3cm wide, as I could find to apply pressure to the boss, while screwing the new screw in. Have a lekker day, Rodger

Hi folks My bottle-cage broke, so, no biggie(I thought), buy a new one, and unscrew the two bolts that screw into the frame. But one of the bolt-inserts, in the frame has broken loose from the frame, and now it just turns. It is the top one in the photo. Grateful for any thoughts/experiences. Rodger
  16. Hi there! Is this all gravel, or is there some single-track?
  17. Thanks so much for all the replies. There is something about asthma that makes one feel isolated, and this is clearly not the case.
  18. Hi Folks Rodger here. I am 56 and ride mtb two or three times a week, for about the last three years, and love it. But the last couple of months have suffered from asthma, about 30-40 minutes into the ride. I now keep a salbutamol inhaler, with me. But it is impacting on my riding and the enjoyment of it. Doing other kinds of exercise (martial arts), seems fine though. Anyone had similar experience? Thanks, and be safe, r
  19. Thanks so much! I am in Wynberg.
  20. Thanks so much! Already feel more equipped to make the call.
  21. Hi folks, I have to replace my drivechain on my MTB, and thinking of converting from my older 3X9 Shimano HG to a 1X10 system. Looks like the 1X set-up will cost at least 1/3 more, and wondering if it is worth it? Any thoughts/advice most welcome. Rodger
