  1. Guys, say what you want, Lance Armstrong might not be a very likable person, but he is a heck of a cyclist. For anyone winning a race like the TDF 7 times in a row, come on guys, if that does not make him the best cyclist, it surely makes him just about the best cyslist we have ever seen. Yes, Iknow about Eddie Merx etc., but accept the fact that Lance was good and I personally believe he is still good. Maybe a little on the old side, but he is good.
  2. I really hope you are kidding!!!
  3. My friend, getting dirty, you can enjoy as much as you like. I used to enjoy playing in the mud when I was a kid!! For the rest, I see just as many nice new places on the road, and very many great people on their road bikes - they are all cyclists, so we have that something special to share. This was not a road/MTB thing - this was the amount of time and money spent of fixing bikes, and my preference why road biking to me is cheaper that MTB'ing!!
  4. One reason why I like road more than moutain!! One of my friends is really serious in MTB'ing, and listening to the amount of money he spends on fixing this and that, I am just glad that I prefer the road to the dirt. Only now and then I need to buy a chain, some lubrication and some cleaning stuff, and then less often new tyres. One thing I do spend some time and money on though, is tubes and the fixing of tubes with all the broken glass on the road. I am not sure if it is like a hobby to these guys to break beer bottles in the street, but seriously, this is one thing I do not like about the road - all the broken glass. I do have a mountain bike but only ride dirt roads and sand. Hate mud and rocks, so my MTB is also rather cheap on repairs as well!!
  5. From my side, I do a lot of "alone" rides where my average varies between 28 and 30 km/h, depending on the route I rain on. When I get in a race though, my average goes up to 39km/u, once again depending on the type of race and the route. This does not really bother me since believe in long base rides, building sessions etc. Personally I believe you should follow a training program. Work towards specific races as your objective and use other races to train, IE bunch riding skills, hill climbs etc. I race with Vets 50+ and still suck compared to the guys that win our races, but my aim is to get there sooner or later and race with them to the finish. In the meantime, just enjoy being out there on your bicycle!!
  6. Can not see the big issue on this. If you greet some one and do not get a reply, so what? If some one greets you, and you do not greet back, so what, it is not that you shpould know everyone out there. I do however feel it is rather rude if you do not greet or smile at some one who greets you or smile at you. Not a big issue, just part of how you were brought up. Goeie maniere en vriendelikheid, soos my ouma sou s?, kos niks.
  7. Thanks to you The Crazy German. No unfortunately I am not in the 60 to 65kg range (closer to that age range). I weigh 85 and my wife about 55 (hope she does not read this). Our Argus time last year was in the region of 3:12 and I am not sure of our power to weight ratio. The wheels are rather new and have less than 500km on, but if there is a slight chance of braking while we are on the bike, I'll never ever put them on. No ways I'll put my wife to this risk, nor myself. I was so hoping for some better feedback.
  8. Would like to know if a set of Spinegry Carbon wheels with 4 spokes will be strong enough to put on a Tandem. I am told they are not allowed for licence racing (singles), hence I'll have to put them on our Tandem. Suppose we can ride races with them on the Tandem since when we do Tandem, we are not in the top spot for price money?? My concern is their stability and strength on the Tandem. Hope this is technically enough info for some advise.
