  1. Someone has clearly been smoking their socks. I've been seeded in VB. I don't recall entering into a racing category
  2. How is the customer service of the coffee shop at cycle lab (an independent company) of any relevance? I get that people may not like McLean but your post is sniping and off topic. Did you take up the bad service with the coffee shop?
  3. A mild challenge? Ja! The Hobby Park takes its toll.
  4. I hear the prologue is fully booked. Next time.
  5. The sale seems to be over. The coupon code no longer works.
  6. So let's understand this then. The Cradle Moon Conservatory is an initiative that was created by the new owner of Heia. It did not exists when Hero entered into the 10 year lease agreement that they hold and would therefore not form part of the trail fee that they charge. I see from the above mentioned thread that the owner stated that Hero has not made any payment towards this conservancy fee in the last 9 months. Seeing as the lease agreement was concluded before the creation of the conservancy and the observed lack of Heia Safari to work with Hero Adventure I can only assume that this is another tactical move by Heia to get Hero to leave. I am not against the Conservancy or the idea behind it. What I am against is the way that Heia are bullying Hero and trying to tarnish the Hero brand name.
  7. Thanks NicNacDH. Can anyone confirm this? I saw the new gate off of the main road. Wasn't aware that they charged for entry there.
  8. I've just heard from a mate that they are charging entry at the gate again for people going to ride the Hero Adventure trails. AFAIK this is in contradiction to the contract that Hero have in place. Still voting worn my feet
  9. I haven't done this race in years purely because I just haven't been racing. When I saw the entry fee of R345 I almost decided against entering again but did so anyway. R345 is a lot. While I did not enter this race for a loaded goodie bag, I was left surprised when, yesterday afternoon, when I picked up my race number, that was all I got. Just the number. No safety pins, no pamphlets, nothing but a number. Perhaps I've been spoilt by some of the off-road races of late which have spoilt us in this regard. There will probably be no shortage of pamphlets stuffed under my car's wiper blades come race day. It is a fact though that costs have increase everywhere, so we can't expect to pay 2006 prices. These costs are passed on to us, and as mentioned in a previous post, road races are not exactly that popular anymore. MTB races have also become pricy. So I'll reserve final judgement until after the race once I've been able to experience all the elements (safety, water points etc.) Regarding seeding and number collection. I do not believe that seeding should be managed by an event's company. Surely this should be handled on a provincial level if not national. What is the purpose of CGC again? These seeding statistics should then be made available to any official event. The trouble is the capturing of these statistics is handled by private companies so it cannot easily be centralised into an official cycling body, unless said cycling body subcontracts these services. Number collection at only one venue is certainly not great. There is a well known cycling store in almost every suburb. Perhaps, as part of the event registration process, cyclist could pick a collection point from a list of these shops. The numbers could then be distributed to these collection points. Any late entries can be handled on the day and queries regarding reseeding via telephone or, better yet, a web portal. Anyway. It's going to be a hard day in the saddle. I'm preparing mentally for that half nelson bum-lock.
  10. I'll be looking into that tomorrow. Thank you.
  11. Here's my dilemma. Last week I had a bit of a crash in which the bridge of my 2012 RockShox Reba was cracked. It seems however that there are no lowers available neither can I find a replacement fork locally. The fork is a 2012 RockShox Reba dual air for a 26" wheel with, straight steerer, 120mm travel and 9mm QR dropouts. The wheelset on the bike is a set of 2009 Mavic CrossTrails. As far as I know the hubs on those don't take anything else than 9/10mm QR. As much as I would like to use this as an excuse to get a new bike, I just can't. So what now? The bike is insured but I can't place a claim if I can't supply replacement details.
  12. Hi all. I'm not holding my breath here but if anyone had been up Breedtsnek in the since the 26th of November and found a black CRKT pocket knife I'd like to hear from them. It has sentimental value.
  13. Hi Mike. I'm a marshal member of cycle lab. I hope you had a pleasant ride this morning. It's the busiest timed of year for cycling in JHB so I hope the numbers didn't fall you out too much. I'd like to echo Ali's sentiments. Give all the clubs a go and pick the one that feels right. On the side of CL I'd like to say that yes we are a big club. I think we must have taken up almost all the parking at DQ this morning but that is because we are 2 weeks away from the 94.7 so all the people that you never see for the rest of the year turn up to get fit or something I'm sure Club100 and the other clubs suffer the same fate.
  14. I rode the blue route today. Good fun. I love the twisty bits, just wish there were more berms. The ones that are there were pretty rough. It sounds like a work in progress though. Can't wait to see what you have planned for 2013!
