  2. I have been riding a pair of the old Arisun Mt Graham's and they are a winner. I nearly fell over when I saw the price (R395). Had them for a year riding devil thorn infested vineyards and am yet to have a flat. Excellent value; go buy them now!

  4. This race was brutal. The route was fantastic but everyone started to fade once we turned back to towards Boschendal. The wind and the heat were simply horrible. The day reminded me of day 1 of the first Grape Escape, I think it was 2011. Was also a brutal day in the heat. I am glad I rode and even more chuffed that I finished. Under the circumstances I think the PPA did a great job!
  5. Thanks so much for all the input. I should have added that the online retailer did in fact put sealant in the tires but instead of using a compressor to seat them he used a CO2 bomb. I thought it was a bit weird but thought it would work out. When I had a good look at the inside of the wheel I found a lump of sealant, and when I say a lump, I mean like a large rubber mass of sealant. I suspect the CO2 bomb put pay to the sealant there and then. I now have a converter for my presta valve so I can use a garage air pump to seat the tire. So, my pva is as follows. 1. Buy a big ass bottle of stans. 2. Remove any old sealant from each of the wheels. 3. Put stans in both the tires and also paint the area where the tire meets the rim with stans. 4. Run to petrol station and pump both till they seal. Spin and bang the wheels around so the stans gets into all the little nooks and crannies. After that I should be good to go yes?   6. Hi All, I recently purchased a set of Mavic Crossride wheels from an online retailer with a set of Arisun Mount Graham tubeless tires. The retailer did a tubeless conversion for me and filled the tires with sealant. Both wheels are now loosing pressure badly, the rear tire barely holds pressure for the duration of a 2 hr mtb ride. The front keeps pressure for about a 2 - 3 days. I pumped the rear tire at the petrol station then went home and submerged the wheel in a bath. I noticed two distinct leaks, both between the tire and the rim. There is no sealant in the tire. So, 1. Will the leaks stop if I put sealant (Stans) in the tire before pumping? 2. Is this a problem with the rims or with the tires? The Arisun Mount Graham's are knock-off tires so am a little concerned about their quality. Rims seem fine though. I may have answered my own question but it would be great if the hubbers could give some advice with regards to the above problem. Many thanks, Wes

  9. The bike also stoop around in a garage for a year or two but has not missed a beat until the chain started climbing. Will have a good look later today.
  10. I was thinking the same thing. The last LBS I took it to did a nice job but it was the first time I had used them so perhaps a second opinion is needed. What is actually needed is a series of workshops held around the country teaching weekend warriors basic bike maintenance!
  11. General consensus is that there is no need to go with the bling XTR cassette - XT or SLX is just as good, yes? It also appears worthwhile to replace chain and cassette together, yes? Many thanks for all your inputs. the bike belongs to my brother in law so I kinda need to discuss things with him first but am glad I have at least got some collective knowledge to aid in my decision. Shot a lot!
  12. Thanks for the inputs however, the bike was loaned to me to use and the problem has emerged 'on my watch' so to speak so I feel like it is up to me to maintain the bike. From the pics can you guys make out any wear or damage that may lead to a climbining / jumping chain. I am certainly not a weight weanie (I can loose a lot around the mid section before I think about the weight of a rear cassette) and am more interested in reliability - It must be bullet proof!
  13. Hi Hubbers, I recently had my bike serviced and the mechanic suggested I replace the chain and the rear cassette. The bike was bought in 2009 for the then owner to ride the epic. I have been riding it for the last 8 months and everything was cool until a month or so ago when the chain started jumping up the rear cassette. Is this a symptom of a tired chain and cassette? I have looked around and a new XTR cassette, CRC sells for about R1371 before I have bought a chain or had the parts fitted. This is a little steep ne' Based on the photos below do you think I need to replace the chain and the cassette or just the chain? Many thanks, Wesley
  14. What a great race (60 km route), I was also a little disappointed with the drinks tables but I guess it is just a one day event. Distance wise and climbing absolutely killed me, my bike got really heavy later on. I underestimated how tough it would be and paid the price with sore sore legs. Managed a time of 4:27 so will look to improve on that next year. Need to improve my fitness as well! Loved it none the less and looking forward to the nine to five! W.
  15. I take it the levers slide into the front of the bar, yes? Still a bit of a noob with these type of things. If that is the case then those are exactly what I am looking for. Are they compatible with disk brakes? Do I need to purchase the pair? The track frame I bought does not have mounts on the stays for brakes so I am looking for a rigid fork with disk brake mounts.
