  1. Thanks Sarge. Appreciate the comment. There are quite a few social training rides here in PE.. one every morning just about so from a social point of view, that fills my need for group riding. Plus 4 of my mates are all cyclists too so we normally ride together. I'll stick with ROAG for a while and once I feel I need what you've described above, I'll give it a go... Thanks!
  2. Nice feedback, thanks Eldron. I ride with a few mates at the moment, so it's serving me well for now. But I agree, once I get more into and start becoming more competitive, the benefits of being part of a club are then valid & worthwhile.
  3. Thanks to both of you... With my current n00b status I'll stick with ROAG for now and later if I'm looking for something more competitive etc, I'll check out Masters.. Thanks!
  4. Awesome feedback, thanks everyone. I'll stick with ROAG then
  5. I've been cycling for about 3 months now.. In order to get my CSA Licence, I had to join a club and the lady @ Cycling SA recommended I just join "ROAG" - a virtual cycling club. There is however a local cycling club, The Port Elizabeth Cycling Club. My question is: Is there a reason why I should/need to join an actual club like PECC, or is ROAG sufficient? What are the benefits of being part of a "real" (so-to-speak) club?
  6. Thanks Bateleur1. Good tip!
  7. Thanks! Got a URL to the event details page or something? EDIT: Found a handy calendar: http://www.epcycling.co.za/index.php?option=com_eventlist&view=eventlist&Itemid=13
  8. Brilliant... Thanks everyone. I'll get some quotes from these guys... Thank you!
  9. Does anyone know of a company (first choice PE, otherwise anywhere in SA that'll ship to PE) who do printing on cycling jerseys? Like for sponsor names and that kinda thing. Recommendations? Thank you
  10. Signed up with ROAG for now... Thanks again.
  11. Odd.. I never indicated that I was a member of any club when I filled out the application :S I'll give 'em a call quick. Thanks for the clarification.
  12. Quick question... I applied for my CSA license yesterday and this morning it still says "Awaiting Club Approval". How long does this process normally take? What club is it awaiting approval from?
  13. Ok so the Look Keo 2 Max Cromo pedals: http://www.evanscycles.com/product_image/image/a43/c75/b90/42322/product_page/look-keo-2-max-cromo.jpg cost ± R780 and weigh 130g per pedal The Look Keo 2 Carbon pedals: http://www.evanscycles.com/product_image/image/f57/e78/ef2/42324/product_page/look-keo-2-max-carbon.jpg cost ± R1314 and weigh 122g per pedal So you save 16 grams but pay almost double the price? Really?
  14. And the customs fee's required by UPS upon delivery? Split that amongst the people who order?
  15. I have a Tacx Speedmatic Magnetic Trainer. Only used once. Assembled and ready to go... Specifically looking for a pair of Keo 2 Carbon pedals, but open to any other offers
  16. Lol... I try to get a constant flow going... its bound to happen if you drink enough right? Ah ok, yeah I'm planning to take a drive on the route this wknd.. get a feel for it.
  17. You mean where are the uphills on the route? Not 100% sure...

  19. EXACTLY the kinda feedback I was looking for, thank you canfan. Yeah gonna be working hard on my climbing in the weeks leading up to the event. Fluids... yes, I carry 2 750 bottles on my bike, so got that covered and will carry a couple Jungle Oats bars on me. Good point.. I have all the equipment, but haven't actually done a change in a while. Will do a test run this afternoon. Much appreciated

  23. Salut! So I'm entering my first competitive event next month: http://www.edcc.co.za/port-elizabeth-2011/ I'm looking for some tips & pointers from seasoned competitors: What to bring with to the event ( besides my bike ), what to be aware of etc etc.. Just any pointers that you think might be useful to a new cyclist about to pop his competitive event cherry Thanks!
