  1. Wow! Some amazing pics!!! Here are 3 of my favourites. Annual cycling trip up Sani Pass. In photo: Justin Porteous, Tyron Bird, Candice Neethling and Gary Neethling Knysna Oyster Fest 2010 St Bernards Peak 2009
  2. Thanks guys! Appreciate it! My boyfriend was cycling with me and made me realise it wouldnt help for me to stop - it would be best to finish and go from there. Sometimes helps to have someone else make you think clearly and decide what the best thing to do is! In the end it was def the best option! To be honest i couldnt quite understand how he could have bn hit by a car during Argus. Had a very confused 6km's!!! The last thing you'd think wld happen!!!!! Thanks again for all the msg's! All messages have bn passed on to him He's looking good - but more bleak abt the fact that he didnt get to finish the race after the last 104km's of torture!
  3. Im jst glad my little brother is ok! Quite shocking that he had to wait 5 hrs on the side of the road until his sister could take him to the hospital! I rode through Camps Bay only to hear my brother screaming my name telling me he'd bn hit by a car during the race!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They eventually called the ambulance (quite sometime after the accident)- which still hadnt arrived by the time id finished my ride and taken him to the hospital!!!!! SHOCKING! Just because there's no blood doesnt mean its not urgent - when my mother spoke to the race officials on Sun eve - she was infomed that there were lots of other unjuries which needed to be seen to! So is someone who's bn HIT BY A CAR with no external injuries obviously not taken quite so seriously as someone who is showing some cuts!!!! disgusting if u ask me! When i got him to the hospital they indicated to me how serious this is and he should never have been left like that! He needed to be made immobile and strapped up IMMEDIATLY! - which they promptly did!! Never bn quite so worried in my life! Sat for hours not knowing what was happening. Being informed by doctors that he may need a plate inserted into his neck. Was a nite from hell!!!! Eventually at 10pm that nite i was informed that they were injuries but nothing life threatening! He'll jst need to wear a soft neck brace for a while. Im jst relieved the injuries are not life threatening and that all will be fine in the long run! But something def needs to be done! Unfortunatly we hear too often of cyclists being killed and the Argus is the last place you'd think to hear of an incident like this. Def needs to be looked into, and made sure this never happens again! Thank you everyone for your kind messages!
  4. ya, he is from kokstad. haha! thats hectic!!! i'll pass on your well done to him*
  5. ya, when my brother called to tell us how it went, my mom went online and read the rules. also didnt see anything.... he was quite over it by the end of the ride. he was just a bit in the dark. so wanted to know for future rides what the deal is. but everythings all cleared up now*** thnx again!
  6. ok this is all starting to make sense!!! thnx so much for enlightening me!!! ya, he did start with the elites (which he was quite shocked abt). i will pass on the messages to him! ya, with some training and riding more races he'll soon be sticking with them! all in good time i suppose***
  7. im not very clued up when it comes to this stuff.... but he has a riding licence. but obviously not one of the top guys. jst a regular rider like most of us. so wld it have bn better for them to have put him in a further group with the open seeded.... i didnt realise this was how it works! thnx for the feedback.
  8. hello all... ok so here's what happened...... my brother went off to ride on sunday. he's new to the whole cycling thing. not worried abt getting in the best group. jst out there to enjoy the ride! anyhow, he some how landed in $ group (the 2nd set to go off that morning). he was feeling very nervous about keeping up with the bunch!!!! after 20km's of sprinting, he decided he needed to drop back (he had no problem with being dropped). he thought he'd simply ride with the next group. when the nxt group came along.... he jumped in. some officials in a car told him to get out or he'll be disqualified. and apparently they didnt ask nicely either!!! so he fell to the back of the group. got shouted at yet again. i can understand that some ppl feel that by sitting in the group they're pulling u along. but is it fair for him to have to ride alone??? trust me he was more shocked abt the whole thing than anyone. it wld jst b nice to know whats the deal for future..... he took the whole event as an experience and something he could learn from. im not posting this to cause a scene, but merely to ask for answers.... what is the rules to riding..... he was taken unawares. so its jst nice to know for nxt time ;-)
