  1. What has this car done? It seems to be maintaining a safe distance from the cyclist. Is that the one involved with the kids?
  2. That is possible, hopefully not. There are lLots of bad reports about the conduct of navy people on local roads!
  3. My blood is boiling as well. This is totally unacceptable. They shoud NOT pay the R1,900 and must - I hope they already have - lay a counter charge. How about an organised solidarity ride en masse to the policice station? The Office of Premier Winde ashould alos be made aware of this! Solly
  4. Sorry fellows, my earlier message was typed too quickly, before I rushed out, hence the typos. We should all look into the mirror and find our own contribution to the mess, then agree on a different way to sort this out than through endless counter accusations! Solly
  5. This "you are wrong and we are right" approach is wrong. There is an opportunity to reimagine a different to share public spaces public roads. What should be clear is that the current approach is not working. No one is all right; no one is all wrong. Solly
  6. In that case, the conduct of that person must be brought to the attention of his employers and (s)he must be called to order, surely! You can't work for and be part of a business brand that uphold certain values - assuming they do - and go out there and behave like a blood thirsty monster wishing for others to be brought to harm. The values you to proclaim to live by, at home and at work, do not stop applying when ou step out of the door.
  7. Thanks Mamil; I wrote following after my morning ride, today: If road cyclists allow themselves to be silenced and bullied off the roads by intolerant motorists, it would be no different to good South Africans allowing themselves to be bullied and silenced by corrupt, abusive politicians, or race card emotionalists. In both scenarios, all the narrative gets to be controlled by the baddies. I argue that there's no better way to enjoy the Cape's marvelous scenic wonders than on a road and mountain bike... okay, also by hiking. It's also good for my heart, so confirm my doctors and cardiologist. There must be a way for mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. I will ask Premier Alan Winde to continue setting the right tone from the top. David Bellairs , #PPA #CyclingSafety #CyclingCommunity
  8. The accounts you share, both of the conduct of the taxi driver and the crash on Chappies, are depressing. People keep going about cyclists riding abreast as if it's the only/main problem. The attitudes of motorised road users, especially taxis and other aggressive drivers, needs to be checked and seriously prosecuted. We all have a role to play. I now, increasingly, fear the stretch from Bantry Bay to Camps Bay.
  9. It's good. I appreciate the constructive engagement. We all seem to agree that the status quo is untenable. The laws and other regulations exist but something is not working. Doing nothing shouldn't be an option.
  10. Thank you; for the sake and safety of cyclists, a national social contract must be agreed to. Cycling bodies have the reach to organise this and to call those in power - starting with the minister of sports - into a room.
