  1. Hi Guys Check the events post for info on the next Dual Slalom round which is this weekend. The time keeping has gone ultra advanced with the use of the brand new South African designed Mobii which is a technological marvel and improving all the time. These guys are amazingly clever and have just added mods to make slalom time keeping a breeze. The course is also being adjusted to make the faster lane slightly slower to get them as even as possible. For future, I am looking at building a single lane double width ultra course that will be double length with all the frills. Jumps and and. The concept will be to race 2x similar to the 4x racing currently popular overseas. All depends on support and able to motivate to the club committee that there is a need for it. I want to stage racing that are draw cards for public spectators which Nitida lends itself to. This weekend's race will again be knockout system BUT the losers get to race once more before the quarter finals for the 2 fastest losers to regain entry into the main knockout race. Look forward to loads of entries this weekend.

Question: What is Dual Slalom mountain bike racing? Answer: There are lots of different ways to race mountain bikes, Dual Slalom is just one of them. It's been around for a while, so it's proven itself as a good one. It's fun, relatively safe, and a great spectator event. Dual Slalom mountain bike racing is a great head to head competition down a man made course usually with gated turns (much like ski racing). The courses are short, (ours is 330m) with a single run usually lasting around 30 seconds. Two racers compete down nearly identical/parallel courses at the same time. The runs are timed and the same racers then switch courses and make another run. The combined race times are compared and the slower racer is eliminated. The faster rider then moves up into the next round to race a winner from another set of race runs. The races and eliminations continue until the final two racers are left. Their race is the final and it determines 1st and 2nd places. The last racers that the finalists had beat then run a set of races to determine 3rd and 4th places. This is a fun race format that moves fast through the race brackets. It's fun racing head to head. You always know where your competition is and it pushes you to try harder. The courses are fun to ride and it's almost always good company. Depending on Numbers all our losers will compete a knock-in format as well which will give the fastest losers another chance of getting into the winners knock out series and potentialy race in a final. Give it a try, it's only as hard as you make it.

  5. @ NigelHicks & Others *~* Thanx for the comments about what Slalom should be Nige. As you know that was my belief always! I got to design & build the slalom that I wanted with no limitations! The Track starts with a double cross over (over/under & Under/over) before it really gets going with a set of berms on the steep slopes and then flat flat slalom on last half. Track is 342m each and my fastest time is 32sec. As for track builder getting it right...thanx, I should hope so; having built a few when Nigel was still knee high to a grasshopper *~* in good'ol Durban MTB club days. Come Ride Nige! Alwyn
