  2. Anton Bosman and Mattie Viviers talk about the Omni-Motion 24 Hour events. They talk about the preparation, build up and competing. They offer advice to the first timers and how much fun there is to be enjoyed at the event. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqEJTscKxAQ&feature=youtu.be
  3. Hi If you don't come right, please inbox me and we'll make sure the good people at entrytime assist you.
  4. Remember that there is a new category where you ride together as a TEAM. You clock your lap when the entire team crosses the line. This way you can ride together, pace each other etc...
  5. Bring them, there will be a beer tent!
  6. TOMORROW!!! Looking awesome!
  7. This is the video that aired in 2001 of that years edition of the Omni-motion 24 Hour at Logwood Ranch.
  8. The route will have a mix of everything but not many very steep uphills!
  9. Thanks, I wish you the best too.
  10. How would you respond when you are being wrongfully accused? We are passionate about our 24 hour and proud of the 12 years behind us. I did get upset and may have over re-acted at times. If so, I apologise. What you don't know is about what has happened behind the scenes. Don't know who was behind it but it did happen. If you would like to know PM me.
  11. Dimitri and Wendell have spoken ages ago and there is no bad blood. The stirrers are other biased individuals which is common on the Hub it seems. It seems to have become a "Vlei vs. Van Gaalen" situation also.
  12. It is very hard to respond to this as we hand out out prizes ON THE DAY. It has been MANY years since we sent anything to anyone after the event. However, if someone is adamant that they had not received their prizes, they should get in touch with me. There are ample channels to do so, e-mail, phone numbers, websites. If they do, I will do my best to get to the bottom of it. That said, NOBODY has contacted us about it and I suspect that this is another attempt by certain individuals to sabotage the Bicycling 24 Hour. There have been OTHER, very serious attempts made also which I will not mention publicly. Should you wish to know however, PM me. Dangle, you are correct, this is hurting the sport. Having two of the same kind of events on the same day is not ideal. Hopefully both events will be successful and that all riders have a good time.
  13. The riders complained on the day and especially when crossing the timing zone about pedestrians getting in the way. As for the camps sites, perhaps you're right. I know that certain spots had to be booked. If i am incorrect, I apologize. Yes, The Vlei was an improvement to N/F, hence the move.
  14. Firstly, your comment about Wendell organizing everything at the last event is untrue. Omni was approached by Wendell to bring the 24 hour to the vlei and it was his enthusiasm and passion that convinced us. YES, Wendell did a lot, after all it's a venue he is in charge of and works there and makes a living from it. However Omni- Motion was involved during every step of the way, with frequent visits and working with Wendell to bring out the best for the race. When we had concerns about certain things, Wendell would respond and make the changes we required.during the week before the events started, Omni was there on site arranging everything except the camping which Wendell organized (and charged for) All the final touches, layout etc...is signed off by Omni-Motion as it is with every one of Omni's 24 hour events. Last year, we had less control as we were told that we HAD to use his newly built start/finish area which also houses showers and toilets. Although we were not happy with it, we had no choice but to use it. This layout caused pedestrians to constantly walk across the track. This is something that had MANY riders complaining. The transition zone also was a mess and also caused by the fact that Wendell was no longer allowed to use all of the open area. This was out of the control of Omni-motion and Wendell. Wendell does brilliantly with what he has at the vlie and we don't fault him, but to make such remarks without knowing all the facts is slanderous. Nobody ever makes the mention of the turbulent relationship between the land owners and the neighbors. BOTH YEARS at the vlie, there were issues and fighting. One year it led to having the water turned off and one of the roads parked in. But nobody mentions this. Then the comment of "someone" at a bike shop not getting paid.... One of you is making that up. For the last several years all prizes were handed out at prize giving by hand. If you have proof, show it or someone wants to speak up, contact me. We have never know Wendell to have organized a 24 hour before. if he has he never mentioned it. "Since the 80's"? I don't think so. Again, nothing is wrong with Wendels organization. The reasons The Bicycling 24 hour was moved are many and are listed in another thread here. If you really made an attempt to contact Dimitri and you had no response, then thats regrettable, but what are you trying to say? We get 100's of mails with regards to the 24 hour and it might just have been that yours was overlooked. Nothing sinister about that. I sent 7 e-mails to the organizers of the Crater Cruise last year and didn't get a single response either but I didn't make a big deal of it. We never made this a "us vs them" situation but it seems some people are to keen to stir trouble. It's as you've said, you are biased. But what's worse is that you don't know the facts. Anyway, we hope that riders entering the 24 at the vlei have an enjoyable event.
  15. Yes, I believe there are.
  16. The Omni 24 has been on that weekend for 11 years! Anyone adding one on that date is the chop!
  17. Apparently that's all been taken into account
  18. Van Gaalen for sure. There is more land to work with, all safe, no mud and flooding issues in the event of massive rain. The courses are as well maintained as the Vlei if not more so. More camping space, better facilities Don't forget, nobody in SA has as much experience at running 24 hour events than Omni-Motion and the date has ALWAYS been in the first weekend of December. This is the 12th year.
