  2. Thanks so far for all the comments! How about this one? Older but still good? https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/406865/giant-anthem-x
  3. Hi, here are two GIant Anthems: https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/406126/2016-giant-anthem-x https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/407695/giant-anthem-2016
  4. Thanks Eendoog I dont have the same level of expertise as you so what would you recommend I look for specifically when checking the components and what kind of questions should I ask the seller? Thanks in advance!.
  5. Thank you for all the input so far! Please keep it coming!
  6. Hi fab people! Please send your wonderful advice. I had a Silverback 29'er that got stolen a few years ago. I bought it 2nd-hand on this site and I remember the great advice I got here (spot-on and all rang true after my purchase). I am now in the market again for a 2nd hand 29'er full suspension (back problems!) and looking at a few of the ads on here. Budget is around R20 000. Initial thoughts: - I read good things about Bergamont. More comments would be appreciated. - Any Giant Anthem X seems like a solid buy all-round. Always liked Giant. Only with alum frame? On that topic: - I see, for example, a Bergamont with a carbon frame going at roughly the same price as Giant with alum frame. Would you good people rather go for the carbon frame (a few years ago it seemed any carbon frame was overpriced) or is alum best/strongest/better/best? What else you would recommend in that range? Best value for money? Anything from Specialized maybe? Thank YOU!
  7. Hi hubbers, still learning so please excuse me if I get a term wrong . I think the spring loading or spring in my back derailleur has broken. Can this be fixed/replaced or would I need to buy a new derailleur? Thanks.
  8. Great stuff, did u get ur discount?
  9. Hi there, haven't been on one but read lots of reviews coz I was also looking at one and most people are very happy with this bike, seems like it's one of the best entry-level 29ers you can get and very good value for money. There is also 2012 model which should be in stores already. Where did you see yours and what's the price?
  10. Thanks Jan, how much did you pay for your matts lite?
  11. Thanks Scott, I've had a look, looks like they only have Fuji's on clearance at the mo?
  12. Thanks Jan, what bike did you get? Eish man, more options, more confusion... Here's another question, I know you might get good deals at Cajee's or Westdene but heard you should not go there for set-up and service. Is it then worth buying a good deal at these stores and then going to a decent bike shop for set-up and service?
  13. Hairy, thanks for the advice. The Kahuna looks great. What's the difference between this and the Big Kahuna? Only problem is I'm up in Gauteng.
  14. Thanks Jan and Wynand, Here's another. Saw a Schwinn Moab Elite yesterday on a clearance sale for R5700. You guys know anything about this bike. Components look pretty good at that price.
  15. Thanks CyclingJan, funny that, I also rode in a parking lot. Was it at Bruce Reyneke? lol
  16. I saw a Schwinn Moab Elite for 5700, about 800 less than bicycling's buyer's guide. Anyone have one or can recommend this? How does it compare with a Merida Matts TFS 300 eg (same price) and the other bikes in this price range. Specs look quite good compared to its competitors. Any advice please?
  17. Hi there, would appreciate any advice. Been reading some of the posts and they have all been helpful. Im a newbie and getting into the game, so looking for either new or 2nd hand hardtail for tar and off-road mix, price between R4000 and R6000. Have seen the following and need advice to get closer to a good decision. GT Avalanche 2.0 2011 model: New, marked down from R6200 to R5000. Mongoose Tyax Super 2011: New, marked down from 6400 to 5000 Giant Talon 1, 29er 2012 New R6400, been reading about the big wheelies and being tall I can see tha possible advantages even on tar. 2nd hand Merida's for around 6 - 7000: A bit scared to go for 2nd hand though but understand I can get more bang for buck this way Which to go for, what to consider, what would u like to add? Thank you so much!
  18. Hi Nicki, Where did you see the Matts Lite 1000 for R8500? That's a very good price. Please let me know. Thanks
  19. howzit ric, another newbie here. thanks all hubbers for the advice and making me actually wanting to post something and ask stupid questions I'm also looking for a 2nd hand MTB hardtail (thats what my triathlete mate suggested if you wanna mix road and dirt for a start, also slicks for the road and mtb tyres for the trails). I've been on the site the last few days looking at the classifieds and would like to ask advice here if I see something I like. There is a Merida TFS 100 being advertised for R5000 but if you compare that to the 2011 model in the buyers guide on Bicycling there is no price difference. Could it be that the additional stuff he/she added makes up for the price that he wants now? I think going for 2nd hand is good advice ric, like one of the posters said, you can pay R5000 for a new bike but for the same price get a much better bike that's only one year old that would have cost you R8-9000 a year ago. Especially for us newbs who dont know what we want yet. Once the bug bites hard and deep, I'm sure we're gonna go looking for something bigger & better. thanks all so far
