  1.

    2 Years is the standard.

Even the Top Pro guys with all the lawyers' date=' docters and money.

    They get 2 years.

Now I'm going to be frank:

    He was given a 18 months because ... .. . .......!

    [/quote']

and what about Ricardo Ricco ?

and to put it in perspective - the was going on about him being soooo good etc etc - The Cobra Dead

  2.

It seems that some still believes its ok to dope' date=' just make sure you dont get cought, and, if... than see you at the races again in 18months. ?

Guys, the point is.... You do not want to compete against someone who is doping (caught or un-caught). The cheater will always have a advantage over the clean riders.

So, How do you stop doping ?

You frikken remove him/her from the sport, let them go bowling or darts.

We do not know cheaters or dopers in cycling.[/quote']

I understand that its not cool to race against someone with a "advantage". But then again its not fair to live with people with a "advantage".

You work your ass off 8-5, they smuggle diamonds drugs or just steal money somehow - chop chop - farken rich.

You cant take a guy out of society for that.

Banning someone from sport for life is harsh - especially for a first time offender. Its not right, doping sucks, but this sport / sport is some peoples lives.

So banning them for life is killing them slowly. Look at the Hansie story. Ok what he did was really f'up but they murdered him in court and the punishment was just too much (lifetime), everything went downhill from there for him....RIP

You sentence the guy - let him learn from mistakes. If he doesn't then you crucify him. Not all people are equal - some peoples mind work different and some people have different reasons for doing illegal stuff.

Not saying doping is OK, not saying Nolan is innocent, not saying these guys are not crooks, just saying take a very good look at how one handles these cases.

If they guy is back - racing against you. Everyone knows what they have been up too and its really hard to get back to the level you were and be accepted in the bunch and racing scene. The damage is done - image wise.

In any case - its sad to dope on Elite level in SA.

  3.

Co-oporate? Ok' date=' do they now know who the supplier was?

Will there be action against the supplier?

We all predict that he will get a easy deal "because he admits and work together"

****that, He cheated and it should be 2 years.

No matter were he go when 18months is gone, He stays a cheat in my books.

    I rest my case[/quote']

Yes I get your message. Point is : There should be a difference in the sentence for someone working together and showing remorse and want to stop whats happening and someone who just straight forward refuse to talk and denies ever taking anything even though he is tested positive.

    Fouche vs Hoffman

One works with them, other one tries to lie his way out. Surely its not fair to give them both the same sentence ?

If Nolan then gets 2 years surely logic will tell you that Fouche should get more... ?

  4.

    Astana

    How old are you ?

    Why?

    Nolan has done something illegal.

    Nolan was caught.

Nolan has co-operated with the powers that be.

Nolan has been given an 18 month ban.

Nolan will (God willing) be back.

A lifetime ban? Jeepers' date=' that is harsh. The reasons for this transgression are well publicised. Even if he doped to get an unfair advantage instead of helping him over an injury, why would you want to take away a man's earning potential by using his talent.

"Let him who is without blame cast the first stone" and all that. If you have never in your entire like broken any rule or exceeded the speed limit or shuffled figures around for tax purposes or even walked out of a shop with more change than you were entitled to, then go ahead.

Come on people. Let it go. Let him serve his punishment and then take a wait and see stance when he returns. If he learns from his mistake, then all in all a good thing had happened.

If however there is nothing learnt from this, then there is another issue at hand here.
    [/quote']

@Gasping - Clap Someone with something in between their ears and open to idea's. Not just single minded and media sh*tted into the "doping" storm.

    Thanx man.

If you look at it from different angles you see where the issues comes in with lifetime bans.

Yeah, my post might be a little too naive, but a small percentage of people get caught for thing they didn't do - YES the rest is positive and they knew what they were doing.

  5.

I get 3 of the ABSA emails a day and don't even have an account with them. I have also recieved the SARS eamil this week....and I have won the Canadian Lotto (7x since last Monday)' date=' the UK, Irish, and what I think could be a Nigerian one as well. Big%20smile[/quote']

you think your lucky ? I might have beaten you in lotto wins LOL

    Imagine you that luck Big%20smile

  6.

I am not saying this should apply to Nolan' date=' but making an example by giving a life time ban is what I believe is called for.[/quote']

Just think about this for a sec. LIFETIME, man do you know how long that is ?

I don't agree. 2 years is fair enough, 2nd time offense ban him from top level cycling for longer 4 - 6 years and then 3rd time - life.

Reason being : What if the rider got high levels of something but its not related to "performance enhancing". Medicine he took that he did not clear with CSA or doping testers etc etc.

sh*t man - people are so spiteful nowadays they might even "spike" another riders drinks - you never know.

Most cases in court will be hard to proof otherwise, if the actual test confirms a positive - that is hard evidence.

Most people will learn from their mistakes.

I say, if caught doping - give them the 2 years and a fine (6months salary for example) depending on cooperation etc.

If 2nd offense - take away all winning medals and rider has to pay 1 years salary to anti doping, and he is handed a 4-6 years ban.

Surely after that no sponsor will sign him in any case. but if somehow he manages to work his way up / dope his way up it will be his last shot - after that life.

Some people make mistakes - outside the sport world as well. Some regret it and some will do it again.

    -Steal

-Drug trafficking (where you can also be framed or spiked with a package) , should you then get life in prison ?

-murder (most are intentional , some people kill someone out of self defense or accident - now do you want them to apply the rule to everyone and you are in prison for the rest of your life ?)

    You get the idea

  7.

There are only 3 Pro riders in SA as far as I know.

    Robbie

    Darryl

    John-Lee

Except they are in Italy and US. Wink

    What about Burry Stander

    Conrad Stols (sp?)

    they pro as well.

Kevin Evens surely get a decent salary ?

  8.

The accident was about 10m from the google sign towards Stellenbosch. There is almost no yellow line to cycle in.

shot. Then its prob just *** truck driver - not knowing how wide this truck is and bamm.

My ride only starts as soon as I leave that area and Stellenbosch traffic. Hate riding there in traffic. Would have like to have more timeslots available, but its either before work or after.

  9.

Saw a group of about 12 cyclist coming down Bree Street Cape Town just after 6 this morning- only one or maybe two had rear reflecting lights and I don't recall seeing any front lights.Disapprove

And we wonder why motorist hate us.... go figure.

Its actually amazing that not more cyclist are killed , especially early morning and late afternoon/nightOuch

  10.

Yes that bridge there is very narrow' date=' I hope the cyclist is alright.

    [/quote']

AS mentioned : If a truck was involved then this is prob what happened..

AS you come from Stellenbosch over the bridge the road splits into 2 lanes. One for going straight to the traffic lights - going towards the N1 / Joostenberg, klipheuwel , but the other lane is to turn left into Kyamandi / Stellenbosch industrial area.

The position of that split just after the bump on the bridge makes it difficult to see what is happening. The road is narrow and Yellow lane is very tight to the curb. Then everything opens up with the split in the lane.

What I'v noticed before is that taxi's and trucks and some bakkies will really accelerate towards the turnoff to make the turn before the light changes.

So with a cyclist on the yellow lane wanting to go straight he has to cross the road and sometimes a truck or something might come up faster than expected.

    Hope the guy/girl is OK.

Another thing - no offense to the injured cyclist - this time of the year with lots of Argus fun riders the road is quite dodge to drive on with a car. Some of these "bunches" ride just like they want. This morning at 5:00 I saw 5-8 mtb'ers and road riders on the road with no light whatsoever - just stupid if you ask me.

But yeah - its everyone's own thing. I will just be pissed if I were to hit a fellow cyclist because he was not visible in the early hours of the day.

  11. Take it to LBS.

If you don't know and WANT to do it yourself - go on a small course. If you don't know anything you'll just waste your time and maby even screw up.

One can't do everything yourself - my motto. So focus on what you wanna be good at and leave the rest to the other pro's

  12. Jip , also agree with the above.

Start slow for a few km's. Then work into you training for the day - climb sprint, TT or whatever intervals etc. Then stretch while muscles are still warm after the ride.

Not sure what the correct thing is to do but reading different view pionts just confuses you more - cause like most things one can always give reasons why your way is the better option. Some say you get poorer performance when stretching before a workout/ride. Some says that your muscles need to be warm to stretch then (then you get better results with the stretch).

Some say stretch lightly before and then more intense afterwards.

Go figure. I just ride my bike slow for a while until I feel comfy/warm in the legs then I hit the drills or up the tempo. Stretch is GOOD , so either way, you have to stretch. Stretching can sort out alot of problems in the muscles and prevent injury big time.

I also do a bit of swimming and running just to keep things in balance. My legs don't like the day after day routine / repedative motions of cycling so need to keep them busy with other angles of attack on the muscles as well.

  13.

Ahh so here we are only starting to brush the surface of the actually true value of the best bike argument.

Like - what would would the best bike be that you can buy?  If you did not have to actually consider stupid real life?

    Or the considerations of females?

(And if they can beat you in a race its only cause they are secretly pro's just on the "Off Season")

It is not about the bike smiley2.gif

And more on topic. You can promise me all the Dogmas and bikey bits I could want for the rest of my life (and the fame etc etc that goes with that) to try and make me choose between sport and my son.

I will choose my son every single time' date=' without hesitation!

    Are they hard work? Yip

    Are they expensive? Affirmative

Are they ungrateful? Most of the time

Are they a pleasure? YES YES!

Will I have a kid again if I have to go back and make that choice again? OOH YES!!! AND MORE

To be honest, there is nothing that compares to your children. Not any posession, not any accomplishment, nor legacy.

The choice to choose between a bicycle and a child is an absolute no-brainer, and until such time as the choice becomes a non-choice you are not ready yet to be a parent. Raising children should not be a chore, but it should be part of who you are (not what you do)
    [/quote']

    LOL

Obviously you should not be choosing between your son and something else! Shame on you LOL.

Were talking - Cycling/Bikes VS (having children) / starting a family

The its a dif story. But I guess you first have to have kids to be able to comment on that. If you had the option 5 years back (after having kids) would you have done the same etc etc.

Its a catch 22. For me with no Children its simple really. Fight it off until it creeps up on you and when you open your eyes again one day your married with kids and guess what - your still happy.

But for now - not thinking about a wive or kids - so enjoying it while it lasts. Big%20smile

  14. If your "spinning" the gears like Jan Ullrich did, surely your quads will feel a bit sore after a few min.

Watch old footage and see the machine power the big blade up the climbs.. not saying its the best approach but surely looks awesome

Try spinning more, higher cadence. obviously should setup be 100%, to low saddle can surely be your prob ??

    Good luck man

  15.

While I've given up a lot for my kids' date=' I've also changed and adapted my free time around them and love spending time with them.

    [/quote']

Hear hear! As I said earlier, my daughter is 22, my son turns 21 next month and my other son just started high school.

What is great is when you see the lights come on upstairs and they think like adults regarding responsibility. It makes you think that everything you have done for them was worthwhile.

The other jol is when they phone you and say "Can I buy you a couple or six beers at the keg?" That is where I am with my two eldest at the moment. Awesome! Can a Dogma do that for you?

ok 1up for you (on that cool part (18+)

    but ....

Tell the other side of the story (when they were younger below 14) Wink

Then the Dogma was/ or could have been your refuge / a home away from all the stuff / a place to be yourself, relax and enjoy life, before returning home to a screaming, hungry and a-mind-of-it-own baby

I'll stop stirring now. haha. I get you. Both have good and bad times. It all works out for the best in the end though

  16.

like the Johny Walker Add - Keep on Walking.  So can it be for the aspirant father Add - Keep on Trying.

Oh. And.' date=' umm, It acually is much better with someone else in the room with you at the same time though.  Actually with you, not just standing close by..  Ha Ha[/quote']

    LOL

Keep on trying with the wive. Look at Tiger woods - he is so used to practicing golf when not playing the tournament that he decided to up the game with the wive and also practice when the "game is not on!"

So practicing on you own is not a good ideaLOL

  17.

Never say to a friend who is a dad what you would say to a passing 18 year old.  Just don't.

    Amen brother' date=' Amen!Clap
    [/quote']

    my apologies Wink

Like the saying goes -- if you dont try, you'll never know (even if you know its not a good idea to try, but still you have to try, just maybe LOL)

    good one.

  18.

Astana what work do you do?  Cause if it is half as boring as my job then you win.

No its not that bad, its just that if your used to a routine of being very busy (office hours) and organizing training around that (morning and afternoon) and one day its super quite (like today) its really gets on my nerves and I feel that "work" is wasting my time - i wanna go and ride.

I'm in the fruit export industry. Also from a fruit farm, so its what I do.
