  1. Hi. Just bought a second-hand but EXCELLENT condition Specialized Venge today. And, even though I am not keen on buying second-hand carbon bikes, the second-hand market does offer some good deals, at savings that would simply have gone into the pocket of new bike dealers. I explicitly told the seller that I am NOT in the habit of buying stolen or dodgy bikes. He assured me that the bike was completely above-board and if there were any problems I could come straight back to him. How does one really know, because I would hate to be riding around on a bike that has caused someone else pain and suffering, If you guys have any advice on this, please post. (also, I am happy to post a pic of the bike I bought, on this forum) This may also be a good way for our other buyers of second-hand bikes to ensure that they are riding legitimately bought bikes, and tighten the noose on bike-thieves. Regards, Meredith

  3. Stolen: Specialized Tarmac 2008 When: 17 April 2016 Where: Cape Town, Western Cape Hi Guys. My garage was broken into early on Sunday Morning 17th April 2016. Thieves got away with my Specialized Tarmac (Black & red) and Schwinn Moab MTB (White & Black). Also three toolboxes with very expensive tools. Our Neighbourhood Watch caught one of the perpetrators late Sunday Afternoon, but the bikes and very expensive tools are still not recovered. Please keep an eye out for these items, as shown in pics. (He should have finished around 11.00am with time of approx 3.30 as i did.) Cheers and I hope you all had a GREAT ARGUS !!!
  8. Hi. i had a great ride on this Argus (even after starting later than my group.) Linked up on the ride with a guy named Desmond who hails from Barkely East in the Eastern Cape. we rode together and carved our way through the field, but I had to stop in Hout bay, where my Son and wife were waiting with fresh bottle of cold water, then lost him. Would like to thank him for great ride together, but did not get his surname. If any of you know him, tell him I posted this. He wore a Group 3C number, and should have finished around 3h 30, as i did. This ride made me think of the Comrades marathon and the ethics and comeraderie there. Regards and hope you ALL had a GREAT RIDE !!!
  9. Hi Guys. I recently bought a road bike from Caledonion Cycles in Muizenberg. I wanted to upgrade to something good, but my budget was a bit stretched, so I was compelled to buy a second-hand machine (upon insistence of the boss-lady). On my second weekend ride around Cape Point, I had a spoke-snap on the front wheel. This was a big blow, as training-time for Argus Tour was VERY limited. I called the owner of the shop to explain my predicament (especially as the spokes on that wheel are not readily available) He made great effort to help me solve my problem even though it can be understood that no-one can guarantee against spoke-snap on a second-hand wheel. Eventually, he offered to take in the wheel-set and replaced it with a similar set at no additional cost. This is truly great After-sales service in my books !!! Good business principle dictates that its not only about the money you can extract from clients, but building relationships of mutual trust. I feel strongly that businesses like these need to be supported so they can grow.
