  1. Its a fascial band on the outer side of your leg. If it becomes inflamed you develop something called ITBS (iliotibial band syndrome). Pain, inability to run/walk and general disappointment abound. Take awhile to clear up as well.
  2. Its normal for shifting to feel a bit more stiff than with the clutch off. You can adjust the clutch preload on the derailleur to reduce this effect if you think its too much.
  3. Yeah except Campagnolo is more reliable, better looking and IMHO better performing than Shimano. Only problem with it is that its pricey to buy. I rode Shimano for years and them switched to 10sp Record and its chalk and cheese. That was 2 years and 6000km ago, not a single problem. And the wheels are very nice...
  4. Anyone do the Slave Route today? What a tough race, well the first 10km anyway. But stunningly beautiful
  5. Have you gone to see an orthopod? Problem with this, is that the pain could be for a number of reasons and aetiologies. Tendonitis, bursitis and impingement to name a few. The NSAIDs and steroid injections doe work well. As far as I see it, you have two courses of treatment: conservative and surgical. Conservative could even be broken down into symptomatic and "curative". If you have a race you're keen on completing, the NSAIDs and steroid injection may buy you enough time to complete the race. "Curative" conservative treatment means rest, physio and NSAIDs/cortisone injection as adjuncts. The other more radicla option is surgery, which might be necessary if the cause is a physical one (bone spur, osteophyte). Best course of action IMHO: go see an orthopaedic surgeon, they will give you all the information you might need. And, of course, ping Talus
  6. I wish I had the patience... EDIT: I'd personally like to see more convincing evidence of the benefits before making the transition.
  7. Start slowly and short and build up over time. Everybody is different, so I cant say what an appropriate starting distance is for you. That being said <5km is probably a decent starting point. Each week up the mileage a small bit, extra 1-2km up to a point your happy with. When you're feeling comfortable with the distance, starting trying to run segments a bit quicker, eventually upping your pace across the whole run. Many many beginner plans out there if your keen on getting started. Just a quick internet search away. Also note that this is entirely anecdotal and you should guide yourself.
  8. Yeah, I think thats probably most people. I can run sub 4's with ease on a treadmill, mostly because you learn to run fast on a treadmill. On the open road, sub 4's are a different beast all together. Are you slower on a treadmill cause you run "properly" on it? I find that most people I speak to say that they're faster on a treadmill.
  9. That is seriously moving. I dont think I've ever run a sub 3 km.
  10. I love running. It's the ultimate leveller. There's no hiding in the bunch, there's no recuperating on the downhills. Its just you, your mind and the road/dirt/trail. The fact that it strengthens your legs, gives a good cardiovascular workout and generally improves your cycling performance is also a plus.
  11. http://shutup-legs.com/2014/05/07/how-does-running-impact-cycling-performance/ Some good quality research there. Short answer: yes, it will benefit your cycling. Improved cardiovascular fitness, improved muscle strength, decreased central fatigue
  12. McLaren P1 vs 2015 Z06 at Circuit of the Americas. The difference between a very fast car, and a very, very, very fast car.
  13. Ah the M coupe. I remember being in the passenger seat of my dad's STi whilst we were getting a hiding by one of these on the N1
  14. I mean this new 488 that is coming out, which is apparently much faster. Interesting that a 458 is only slightly slower around Fiorano. And this new car (488) is apparently 2 seconds faster. Dunno if thats by simulation though.
  15. I find it absolutely incredible that today's 'baby' Ferrari will run rings around the Enzo, the best car/Ferrari on sale less than 10 years ago. 661hp (495kW) and 561 lb ft (760Nm) in a road going car!! Incredible.
