  1. Nobody of my cycling friends have any of the models I am considering, but will be on the lookout and ask around a bit, thanks. Not sure I can hold out that long. Bike fest looks awesome, might go even if I have bought a new bike before then. Thanks, this takes care of the Camber, now to find stores I can demo the other two
  2. Hey fellow hubbers The time has come to buy a new MTB. After 6 years of trusted service from my alu hardtail, my body has decided that a dual sus with longer travel is required. I am a weekend warrior, thus the slacker geometry and longer travel will make the ride more enjoyable (or so I read). Below are the bikes I have on my radar. You guys are welcome to comment on the list, recommend bikes I have missed or remove if I should not consider due to experience. The option on my budget Scott Spark 930 2018 – R40k: https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/scott/products/scott-spark-930-2018 Scott Spark 920 2017 (carbon main frame) – R49k http://www.vbike.co.za/scott-spark-920-2017/ Trek fuel ex 9.7 2018 (carbon main frame) – R53k https://www.trekbikes.com/za/en_ZA/bikes/mountain-bikes/trail-mountain-bikes/fuel-ex/fuel-ex-9-7-29/p/2144600-2018/?colorCode=black_red Specialized Camper comp 2018 (carbon main frame) – R55k https://www.specialized.com/za/en/mens-camber-comp-carbon-29---2x/p/133921?color=239846-133921 Ideally I would like to stay as close as possible to my budget of around R40k, however considering I am going to ride this for a long time I can probably stretch it a bit for good reason. My LBS does not have any of the bikes I am looking at, and this is where I have a problem. I do not mind buying the bike over the internet (if my LBS cannot get the bike for a competitive price). But I would like to test ride the bike. From the treads below, it is clear that a test ride is important to make a decision. Similar treads on bike hub: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/172711-what-to-buy-scott-vs-giant-mtb/ https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/172692-spez-camber-comp-2017-or-giant-anthem-2-2018/ https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/171934-spaz-camber-2018-or/ Thus I have come to the point for my blabbing on in this post: I live close to JHB/PTA area and are able to drive through for a day over the weekend to test ride some bikes. I do not know where or which bike shops have demo bikes to test based on my list above and this is where you guys come in. I am looking for bike shops I can contact to test ride as many of the bikes in a day as possible
  3. Found 2 more options. GT 9r carbon expert for R19500 and GT 9r carbon pro for R25000, both 2015 models. The specs are below. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3437951/2015/GT%20Bikes/2015%20GT%20Sellsheets%20-%20Zaskar%20Carbon%209R%20Expert.pdf https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3437951/2015/GT%20Bikes/2015%20GT%20Sellsheets%20-%20Zaskar%20Carbon%209R%20Pro.pdf Is the bergamont still the best option? 4. Thanks for the replies thus far. If you would upgrade anything on the bike, what would it be? I will probably use my current wheel set, that is arch ex with hope hubs. So mayby only doing a 1x10 conversion? Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
  5. Good day fellow hubbers. I need your advise on the following mtb. It is a Bergamont 29er carbon hardtail, full specs at: http://www.bergamont.com/en/bikes/archiv/2015/revox-90/ I do not know the make, anybody has some comments or experience with Bergamont? Is it a good buy at R20000 new or do I need to keep looking? I currently have a aluminium hardtail and I am thinking that upgrading to carbon is a step in the right direction.
  6. On my previous wheelset I used to ran MAXXIS Crossmark 2.1 front and rear. Had no issues with the combination where I do my training rides (mostly farm roads and gravel roads due to lack of trails), but as soon as I went riding anywhere that grip was required, they did not hold-up well. I am now on a different wheelset (Stan’s Arch EX) with GAEX Saguaro 2.2 front and rear (got them with the wheels). I have not done a lot of riding on them yet so can’t comment. Although the GAEX Saguaro 2.2 still have good thread left, I am not sure how old the tyres are and if that has an impact on tyre performance at all. Tyres also have small cuts and had a couple of nice “duwweltjies” in them yesterday (luckily the sealant sorted them out). I am not sure if I should use the GAEX Saguaro 2.2 combo for Sani2C or upgrade and what will the best combination be (it will be my first one)?
  7. Thanks for the input. To sum it up, get measured for sit bone width, test a couple of saddles and the cost does not matter. I have heard good things of the Selle SMP saddles, any idea of who stocks them in JHB? would like to give them a test.
  8. I am not sure if this is covered somewhere else…could not find a thread. I am looking at upgrading my saddle. I am currently on a 29er hardtail with the stock saddle. The time has come to give my largest contact point some well-deserved assistance. I am a heavy rider (100kg+) and from time to time feel some numbness in areas that should not get numb. I am thinking of getting a wider saddle (143mm or something in this range) and with a pressure relief channel. Current saddle is something like 135mm (I think) with no channel. Some recommendations from riders that have or had the same problem will be greatly appreciated. I know a saddle is important, but do not want to take out n loan the finance it. I am thinking of spending R1000, is this sufficient or must I reconsider? I am not from a big city that has a lot of bike shops, and the ones we do have, have limited stock. I am close to JHB and PTA and travel there on a regular basis. Which shops do you recommend to visit next time I am in the area? Any shops that can do a proper fitment, and possibly loan me a saddle or two for a week to test?

  13. Good day, I want to buy a new MTB and I am considering a 26” DS or a 29” HT. The thing that an am concerned about is my height for the 29” HT. I am about 1.75m. Is this to short to ride a 29” HT properly or will the 26” DS be better suited for my height?Good day, I want to buy a new MTB and I am considering a 26” DS or a 29” HT.
