  1. I was looking at the electric options, but our budget is very limited. I was hoping to find something under R5k each which most likely means dodgy second hand Makro bike with one decent trailer or maybe a DIY franken-cargo-bike
  2. Ice cream bike, cargo bike, maintenance bike, all different names for similar products I know them as cargo bikes because that's what they're called in Europe, in SA they haven't really caught on as a versatile domestic product
  3. That looks more like what we'd need in a South African setting. Especially since we mostly have dirt roads in the estate. Thanks!
  4. A bike trailer might be our only option in the end. Any suggestions that can carry a bit of weight?
  5. Hi everyone, I'm looking for options for a cargo bike in SA and I can't seem to find much online other than an adult trike with a little basket: http://afritrike.co.za/products/ The reason I'm looking is because I live in a big estate and our maintenance workers currently walk everywhere, carrying their tools (spades, rakes, picks, etc). I'd like to offer them a more efficient mode of transport that actually has some cargo space. I was hoping Qhubeka made something, but I'm not sure how much you can strap to the cargo rack on the back https://qhubekabicycle.myshopify.com/
  6. It's not likely to make it into production, it looks like one of those design concept products. Just there as a showcase destined to stay a digital dream
  7. That IF MODE bike looks awesome, and also very expensive! I've managed to find a Giant Halfway at Bruce Reynecke for around R6.8k, which is R2400 more than when I was looking last year!!! At this rate I'm going to chop a BMX in half and put hinges in
  8. I'd say your difference would really come from the tyres and better equipment, and a little from the weight improvement. I'm not a fan of road bikes though, they're just not as robust as a good mountainbike or hybrid bike. So I'd say rather get a nice entry level mountainbike with an aluminium frame and put some Continental Town & Country or Top Contact tyres on it. That way you can ride on the kerb or on the side of the road if you need to, and it would take much more of a beating than any road bike could.
  9. Hi guys I've just signed my contract to start a new job in July, and with it comes some interesting transport possibilities... I'm looking for a folding bike, something small and light. I'm thinking of something like the Giant Halfway or the Giant Clip, but I haven't seen any folding bikes at my LBS. I know that the Halfway was brought into SA about two years ago, and they've expanded the range internationally, does anyone know where I might be able to find something like that? The reason I'm looking specifically for a folding bike is that I could easily put it in my car for the trip to work, and then just take it out and ride it when I go to varsity (which is about 4km from my new office). It will also allow me to bike from home to bus station so I can make use of the Gautrain system when it becomes active. Please help
  10. lol! If I want to complain it will have to be to Scott themselves. Which I most certainly will
  11. I just called the shop and they said they'd replace them for me. Thanks for the advice guys!
  12. The Olympic ones were the first shoes I considered, but they weren't such a comfortable fit, where the Scotts are rigid and still have a nice soft lining.
  13. I had a look online, they're the Scott Trail. Will only be able to go past there next week though Suppose I'll have to give them a call in the mean time to make a complaint.
  14. !!!! I bought a pair of Scott MTB shoes 2 weeks ago from Due South in Woodlands Mall on special and thought they looked and felt great. Till I did my first ride in them. 10km later I had a really sore right foot and thought it was the cleat setup. But after my second ride last night I figured it out. The shoe has an uneven surface on the inside. The right shoe has a ridge just behind the arch of my foot on the "outside" edge and it hurts me. There is no ridge on the left shoe, so in my opinion it's a manufacturing fault. What can I do about it? Do I just accept it as a R600 f**kup? Or can I return the shoe as faulty?
  15. I used to ride Continental Town & Country tyres, got about 8000km out of them with tread remaining. Nice low rolling resistance but still useful on hardpack because of the odd tread pattern. Then I replaced them with Continental Top Contacts. Awesome tyre for road riding! And it has the added benefit of their new puncture protection system and the super reflective beading on the sidewalls. Great tyre! With both of these I've had no punctures. Only got one or two with the Town & Country's when I did a bit too much off-road.
  16. Okay, so after roughly 2 months of having the bike and riding a few short trips a week I have to say that I love the bike! It felt way too small at first, but now that I'm used to the massive change in geometry I really enjoy riding it. It's so fast and nimble. And a very smooth ride from the Rock Shox Tora fork. I got some Crank Brothers Smarty pedals on Monday with some Scott shoes and it's just made the experience better. I can see myself spending a lot of time in the saddle this summer!
  17. I already ordered it last week, just waiting for delivery to Cycle Tech in Kyalami. Anyone have particularly good or bad service from them before?
  18. Bruce Reynecke cycles actually offered me an excellent price on the HASA literally 3 hours after I ordered the Felt. But I think I made the right choice. If I really want to I can always buy another bike in a few years again. But then I might go full suspension
  19. I don't know what to recommend to eat on LSD. I doubt you'll be hungry in the first 5 hours, but you will need some good music to get you through your trip. Just remember, acid is like 12 hours of madness.
  20. Okay, so I finally decided on the Felt Q920 on Thursday and ordered it and paid for it. It's been about 6 months of looking and deciding and I think I made the right choice Now all I need is a set of pedals. I'm considering the Look Quartz or something from Crank Brothers. Any recommendations?
  21. I can't actually find any Scott bikes in Gauteng, or not in the places I'm looking. Asked for a price on some Specialized bikes yesterday and nearly started crying. At the moment I'm thinking it's between the Felt Q920 and the Hasa.
  22. While those don't look too bad, they're over my absolute limit. I was looking as high as R11k because the Felt RXC2 has a recommended retail of R10 999... I just remembered another brand that I'm looking at, http://www.stevensbikes.de/2008/index.php?lang=en_US The S8 and the Stoke look appealing, but I've only seen the Wave so far (for R14k)
  23. No no, not looking for titanium, that's waaaay out of my price league! What I was trying to say is that their titanium frames seem to be okay, so maybe the same goes for their aluminium ones?
  24. Well a buddy of mine just went to have a look at Bruce Reynecke cycles in Pretoria, and the sales guys said they've ridden the Hasa titanium bikes and really liked the ride and the components are sounding better and better to me by the day. As for the future of the bike, I've ridden my Yukon for 9 years and this bike will most likely end up with a 5 year+ service life under me, so I don't think resale is an issue right now. My problem with the Felt bikes is that they're not easy to find on the sales floor at a bike shop, so I haven't had a chance to ride one.
  25. Well I'm relatively short, about 1.67m. I was measured up to fit a 16" frame. But isn't that Scott a road bike? I'm looking for a mountainbike. Whipme2008-05-26 09:11:39
