  1. Gooday All, Driving through Milnerton on my way to work this morning I got to thinking how do they (the powers that be) intend keeping the new bike/cycle lanes that they are making along Marine drive (and any other ones that are going up in the city at the moment) for bikes and cycles only? i.e. how are they going to stop the taxi's and any other road user that feels that thier time is more valuable than the hundreds of other people waiting patiently in the traffic from making it "their own lane" Without puting up some kind of large concrete barrier between the "car lanes" and the bike lanes there is no way they are going to be able to control access to the bike lanes. Or am I missing something here?
  2. Hi Shebeen, what is an unofficial finish? this was also my first Argus and I got stopped at Suikerbos. Does that mean we don't get a finishing time even though we did get a medal?
  3. Hi Weekend Warrior, where did you manage to get the BBB pads? I looked at a couple of places at the weekend but they did not have any. Rgds
  4. Thanks Mampara, I guess that better pads would be a good place to start. What do you recommend?
  5. Hi all, I have posted another post about upgrading my rear V Brake to a disc brake but have been giving it a bit of alternative thought, is there anyway that I can upgrade my existing V brakes (Avid Single Digit 5) to provide more stopping power?
  6. Sorry don't know why but when I tried to post the response it timed out so I reposted another one (which also timed out) but both seem to have posted regardless of the time out.
  7. Thank all for the responses. Hog and lurker, the reason for the rear only is because I am a little heavier than most (OK a lot..) and am quite happy with the stopping power of the front brakes but feel that I could do with a lot more from the rear brakes and hence the best way to do that I thought would be to upgrade to a disc brake on the rear.

  9. Hi All, I am thinking about changing the rear brake on my Merida from a V brake to a disc brake is this an easy upgrade and what sort of price am I looking at? I am thinking of getting Deore XT to match the rest of the specs.
  10. Can only agree with you mdk555, Cycle Lab Northgate is by far the best place to go at the moment. A friend of mine and I recently went to one of the cycle shops in Tygervalley (less than 2km from his home) to get him some slime for his tubes not knowing any better (at the time) he paid R 45 - 00 each for the slime (of which he bought 3), he also was looking for a bike carrier for his car so we got some prices and went on to Cycle Lab to compare the prices of the carriers we had just got. I was wondering around Cycle Lab waiting for him while he got some prices on the carriers and spotted the exact same slime that he had bought at R 15 - 00 a bottle (R 30 - 00 a bottle cheaper!!!) Needless to say that we haven't been back to the Tygervalley shop and as a side note he has in fact since then spent a small fortune at Cycle Lab (a good 15kms from his home) which he probably would have spent at the Tygervalley shop had they not been such a rip off.
  11. Well said TryBoy, I couldn't agree with you more. I ride at the moment with two rear red lights on the back of my bike and two red knog frogs on my helmet facing back-wards (the front is almost as well lit), I know that this might be overkill (had some guy on a MTB behind me making sarcastic remarks about how he almost didn't see me the other day!!) but rather that than being rear ended by a car or vehicle. And I have to say that even with four highly visible red lights there are still a number of cars and busses (my pet hate) that try and pass you as close as they possibly can. As mentioned by TryBoy please guys and girls make sure you are visible when riding in the dark or even just in poor light conditions it might not look cool riding around with enough lights to classify as a search and rescue helicopter but what is the alternative being taken out by a vehicle? Give me uncool any day.
