  1. well if you look at the pic of the light setup you will see the battery pack is an easy solution. three rechargeable dont weigh that much and the battery pack fits very comfortably in a water bottle. so why change it??
  2. no not yet.. im not to worried about weight hey, cause its all training weight. when a race comes i strip it off!
  3. yip it is... ha ha you're on the ball ay
  4. thanks conti
  5. well sampie, when we made the light we never thought of using disposable batteries, that would be stupid. but i got them to use as a temporary solution! not permanently...
  6. oh really where?
  7. yes konafan the mounting i think is ALWAYS the hardest part of building a light! my dad came up with the mounting solution. its simple yet very effective. i often notice in the group how other lights shake around or rather shudder. well the mount we put together seems to hold the light nice and tight! another thing i would like to say is, BL's lights are made to race off road at night or nite races! from what i can gather anyway.(correct me if im wrong) i dont do such races, so the reason i need a light is just to train with in the mornings when its still dark... the light that my dad & I made works perfectly for what i need. as far as im concerned you dont need some hardcore light if you are training with a bunch in the early morinings.
  8. look, rechargeable D cell batteries cost R150 for 2. so is cost me R300 for 4 batteries(the light needs 3). and then R100 for the charger. so you looking at about R400 extra for batteries and charger! the light is bright, you gotta see it to believe it! if you thinking of buying new batts every time yours go flat you seriously have mental problems. and also, the same D cell energizer batteries have lasted now 11hrs. and the light is still the same brightness!
  9. i would like to know how much the new wh6600 ultegra wheelset goes for? brand new!
  10. im not saying that its wrong to make calculations, i just dont understand them... Speedi152008-06-07 02:54:44
  11. the LED in the light im using is an Xlamp XR-E Cree LED. also, johan from BL gave me all his complicated scientific explanations on how long my light would last. i think he said it would run for 5 or 7 hrs! well its run for 11hrs and still running! so ja. im not interested in all those calculations, the light is bright enough for me and over 120lumens...
  12. could you run two light heads ie two LEDs on one battery pack?
  13. yeah probably less than 180. but remember, its been running for 11hrs already so might be a bit weak! anyway, when i build another one and mount it, ill post some beam shots. than it'll be quite powerful! double trouble...
  14. after taking pics this evening one realises how good you can make you can make your light look with an extra long exposure. we(my dad and i) took a few shots and selected the one which looked the most like what we were seeing in reality. also i want to mention, my dad and i are bike nuts and what we've made is just a result of unscientific tinkering in our workshop. watts a lumen anyway? also, we never had the intention of making any comparisons to BL! His stuff is brilliant but my lifes savings need to stay savings for a while, so my project will have to make do in the mornings until my ship comes in. its a helluva lot better than any of the little bar mounted LEDs we've had so far! Hope you enjoy the beamshots! will post mounting pics tomorrow. Speedi15
  15. yeah pretty junk pic, i wont lie! dont have my tri pod. so had the camera on the boot of the car... will put a better pic on sometime this weekend. look, i rate its just a little bit dimmer than the Revelation 1. but will put some comparing pics on soonSpeedi152008-06-05 13:17:45
  16. DELETED PICTURE. WILL PUT ANOTHER ONE ON SUN Speedi152008-06-05 12:59:20
  17. ok ok. will post beam shots later this evening! yes very true! batteries cost alot... i rate it will be about R350 extra for Rechargable batteries and a chareger! but still that means my light will be less than R1000! and also im NOT COMPETING WITH BRIGHTER-LIGHTS! as i said, my light is giving about 180 lumens, where brighter-lights are giving 220 lumens on there 'small' light(Revelation 1)! but im working on a new idea.. hoping for 250 lumensSpeedi152008-06-05 10:21:18
  18. mount 2 lights? what 2 lights?
  19. na cant ay sorry. but will see you tomorrow mornin
  20. oh ok ... . . . . . . but i dont need to worry bout that with my light cause its all sorted out when i buy it!
  21. ja they use heatsinks to stop that
  22. the reason i say 10 hrs or more is cause thats how long iv run it for. so i dont know for sure how long it will last!
  23. no includes batteries . charger and recharge batts would be bout R400 more! but still its pretty cheap hey! i mean look at the blackburn x4, it gives something like 3hrs on high power, and gives 85 lumens. mine gives more than 10 hrs on battery life and gives 180 lumensSpeedi152008-06-05 07:20:25
