  1. Society has a large number of problems, but I can fix three in one go: 1. Crime 2. The cost of punishing criminals 3. The need to run medical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic trials Vote for me as your new Minister of Correctional Services, give me carte blanche and I guarantee you the lowest crime rate in the world. Why should criminals have human rights at the expense of the innocent? And why should innocent animals suffer in medical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic trials? The data obtained does not directly translate to humans anyway. So, my plan is this: - Sterilize ALL convicted criminals - don't want those genes carried over to a new generation! - Experiment on criminals instead of innocent animals. The risk of the experiment can be adjusted to fit the severity of the individual's crime. - Companies can pay for these trials, thereby making jails profitable instead of a burden on the tax-payer. - Oh, and no luxuries or studying for free either! Vote now!
  2. Will do, but no luck so far. The "contact us" function on website of The Bicycle Company is broken.
  3. Thanks guys! Will contact The Bicycle Company and ask if they can supply the Rhythms. The strips are not for a Bontrager wheelset. I've decided to try a set of Chinese carbon rims: http://www.light-bic...compatible.html And, a very lengthy read through this thread leads me to believe that these strips are the best bet for going tubeless on the Chi-bon rims: http://forums.mtbr.c...-673410-79.html
  4. The tall monster looks amused. Probably because he knows the justice system does not come close to serving justice. If only I were minister of correctional services...
  5. Anybody know? Apparently Stan's strips won't work as well for the specific rims in question. Evan's in the UK has them, but will only ship them within EU. CRC don't have them, nor do CWC. Help will be much appreciated
  6. Yes. Driving me nuts!!! And if you switch to standard view, they are out of sync with HD broadcast
  7. First time I'm seeing this thread. Just awesome... wow. You are doing something really teriffic. Please PM me your postal address. I'll go have a look-see around the house for items that could help. Definitely have an spare hardly-used lid and a bunch of tubes.
  8. I have the Euroway 3 and if we load 3 x 29ers, the bikes are very close together - touching in critical areas. Even though the arms and ratcheting wheel straps hold them securely, there will still be vibration during the ride. We always use protective materials in critical areas when loading 3 bikes. EDIT: @ mnb1411: With this small precaution we've never had any damage whatsoever to any bike on this carrier.
  9. If you can afford it, go for the Thule Euroway 3-bike model (R4699 @ CWC). The Euroway locks to the car towbar and it turn locks the bikes to itsself - you'll get discount on insurance. Thule build quality is great and the Euroway has versatile configuration options for just about any size/shape bike. It holds the bike securely and there is no fiddling with bungee cord or removing of wheels. Get the 3-bike version even if you will mostly only transport 2 bikes. The reason I say that is: If you load a bike in first and last slots, there is lots of space inbetween and no worries about the bikes damaging each other. If you load a bike in each slot, you'll have to place protective material over casette, cranks, forks, etc.
  10. With or without sheep suit? **Kidding**
  11. Dress him in a sheep suit and send him to Australia.
  12. Why do so many, ermmmmmmm, "interesting" things happen in such a small town?
  13. No, they say I am too old
  14. Well, he is a weekend warrior and cost is a concern. If he were Bill Gates it would not matter what a bike costs. We are merely giving additional good options that cost less than the two bikes he has been looking at. The components of the Silverback Mercury Elite are comparable to those of the Cannondale, but the bike only costs about R18 000. I'm not saying he should necessarily buy a Silverback, but that there are other brands out there that offer very good value for the casual rider.
  15. The OP is too heavy for the Stans wheelset that comes standard on the Vida 1. And yes its a hardtail. Perhaps consider the Silverback Mercury Elite and fit it with these: http://www.light-bicycle.com/carbon-29er-wheel-mountain-bike-clincher.html It will still be cheaper than either of the original options listed. There is a whole MTBR thread (http://forums.mtbr.com/29er-components/cheap-chinese-carbon-rims-673410-77.html) dedicated to these carbon wheels and apparently they are quite good. The company will even do custom built AM wheels based on rider weight and hub/spoke preference.
  16. I was not stating this, I was correcting a mathematical error in Cameron's post
  17. Then it would be 1kg on bike = 4kg on rider.
  18. Silverback Mercury 29er. Elite if budget allows, or Comp as a value alternative. EDIT: I'm 1.72m and ride a medium Silverback Storm. At 1.70, you might have to go for a small. Ride both a medium and a small before deciding.
  19. Yes, you HAVE TO try them on. People have different head shapes. Some brands will fit one person well, but not their buddy. Good plan of action when buying helmets: 1. Make a short-list of highly rated helmets in your price-range. 2. Try them on and pick the most comfortable. 3. If two or more are equally comfortable, buy best ventilated one. 4. If two or more still remain, pick lightest one.
  20. I am NOT fast Nor am I easy OR cheap
  21. Aaaaah, okay, I haven't been around this forum long enough to know about people's views in these matters. Personally, I started out on a 6.5K bike and current ones are a definite improvement. If I could afford to, I would buy even better bikes. Just because you aren't the world #1 doesn't mean you should not enjoy riding a good bike. That said, I still like the bang-for-buck factor and would opt for best specs/ride at set pricepoint. Some people also view their bikes as artworks and, in that sense, I can understand why they spend so much on them. People have different views, let's agree to disagree?
  22. Uhhmmmm, I'm pretty sure we're all just kidding around. No need to be like that.
  23. Not to mention the phone call from the bank wanting to confirm the large transaction! LOL, I imagine that can bring one down a bit, yes...
