  1. I agree, I'm also 6'4 and the best I have managed is 90kgs down from almost 110kgs when I started cycling. The important thing is the enjoyment factor I think. Would I also like to stand a chance to get some kind of catagory win even if it isn't the "main" prize of the day, for sure! Do I think it's fair that cycling should be handicapped like horse racing, no, that is taking it too far. But why bash race organisers/governing bodies for being innovative to make it more interesting for the weekend guy? The racing snakes weighing the same as my 7 year old son can compete for the podium, but it would be nice to now and then have a go at the buffalo prize just for fun!!
  2. Is this event still happening, cause the website is not available? It's great fun and one of the most scenic routes of the year. Even though not a push over by any stretch of the imagination!!
  3. I stay a nice 10km ride from Meerendal, so have a TBMTB membership. Bottelary is nice for the odd once or twice a month outing when it's dry. Just a pity there are some idiots now ruining the option of riding there for the people who actually pay. Was always nice riding from Radish and then having a quick cappuccino afterward.

    Hell and Back

Everybody partaking this weekend, enjoy. Not sure how we are getting there as all the roads to Oudtshoorn has protest action on them! See you on heartbreak hill.
  5. Once again I am clearly not the legal buff as most guys here on the Hub. Could someone please let me know since when a cyclist has as much right on the road as a motor vehicle. Should this be true, it implies that a cyclist can ride in the middle of the road without caring if there were cars behind him or not. And on this topic, which I am sure all the legal eagle roadies out there will answer, does right of the road cover all things with wheels or only those things ridden by people with pro cycling gear?
  6. Was a great race, albeit it a mudfeast of note!! Organisation was awesome and the route well plotted. Even where we joined up with the shorter routes there were no real problems in waiting for slower riders. Only incident of the day was some complete moron helping at the first water point almost making road kill out of me and my friend as we were coming up the hill and he thought it was a great time to go down the jeep track in his bakkie!! Will certainly be back next year.

    Potberg

Anyone doing Potberg this weekend to escape the rain and mud in Cape Town?
  8. I bought a Merida 29'er with, in my opinion, a bit of a dog Suntour fork. Thinking of replacing it with a Reba dual air fork. Just in terms of relative gain in riding technical sections and speed of descent, will the difference be mind blowing or barely noticeable?
  9. See you guys there ... just hope the warning of having to walk in lot's of places due to the amount of people in this race isn't a huge problem tomorrow!!
  10. Do have an endomondo for one full route and one half route (cell died!!) ... the area is pretty well marked for MTB and they have a couple of good maps. Not sure what you are after, there are at least 50km of routes just at the Sanddrif area itself.
  11. Spent a couple of days in Sanddrif. They have some epic trails that have been cut into the mountains and rocky outcrops. Some of the downhills are the most technical I have encountered anywhere in the Western Cape. For those looking for something different, this is truly a great outing.
  12. Which Lenser are you using? My M7 is only lasting an hour on full brightness.

    Welvanpas 16 June

Did Welvanpas for the first time on Saturday, all I can say is WOW WOW WOW!!! The single track is epic, my shoulders were so sore from holding on for dear life ... I just love it!!! Probably one of the most picturesque trails in the Cape. The bread and beer afterwards is also a winner.

    Welvanpas 16 June

I leave that to you and the other crazy people who are going to brave the 4degree morning chill at 6h30!!!
  16. We are going to do the white route at Welvanpas this Saturday at 8am. Were not going to kill it, as this will be my first ride there, but nice medium pace. Anybody keen to join us are more than welcome.
  17. Who's going through for this event on the weekend? Looking forward to it, just hoping not to have any puncture issues as mentioned about this event last year.
  18. So, what you are saying, is that it is fine for cyclists to ride next to each other taking up part of the road? How ridiculous, just so you can sit and have a conversation with your buddy you are willing to risk not only your life but whatever aggravation to motorists ?? This is exactly why people think we are selfish idiots not deserving to be on the roads.
  19. I think there are certain cyclists that cause motorists to get frustrated. I for one can never understand certain roadies who insist to ride next to each other on a road with hardly any shoulder. I mean, I get so crap nervous riding anywhere near any part of the road that taxis and trucks use that I can't fathom why they would just sit there in utter "ignorance" two abreast. As far as the rest of this idiot's comments go, I really think he is sitting in some little room somewhere with nothing better to do than post utter rubbish on the net!!!
  20. Hi guys, I'm new to this forum but have been riding for a while. If there is still a spot open in anyone's team I'm keen to join for this year.
