The NEW 57 km route is for the serious riders that like a challenge. This will be the first year that we'll host a 57km and we look forward to see the endurance riders tackle this one. Please do not attempt if you don't do these distances on a regular basis. The route will follow much of the 42km ride but will split off allowing you to "opt out" if need be and continue with the 42km should you be struggling. This one will be tough! The 42 km route is a rewarding route for fit riders, as this route includes challenging and technical climbs and descents. Only experienced riders should attempt this route. The 29 km route, on the other hand, is a pleasant meander through vineyards and over gentle hills and is not as technical as the longer routes. Expect a combination of jeep and single track sections on all three the longer routes. The 12 km route consists only of jeep tracks and is suitable for children and novices. NOTES: All four routes are opened exclusively for this event! The maps and profiles attached is there to give an indication of what the routes will look like but are subject to change as determined by the organizers. This funride forms part of the Wacky Wine Weekend Festival in Robertson. Each participant older than 18 will receive a bottle of Robertson Winery wine or grape juice. Participants younger than 18 will receive a bottle of Robertson Winery grape juice. All children u/12 must be accompanied by an adult. Children u/10 will be allowed on the 12km route. Many lucky draw prizes to be won! FRIDAY NIGHT RIDE: For those who are coming through on the Friday, we'll have a relaxed night ride to get the legs going. We'll follow the 12km route on the jeep tracks through the vineyards. SPORTS MASSAGES will be available after the event. Please book in advance as this will secure your massage. Walk-ins also welcome. To book contact Susan-Marie on 071 886 0522 or email her at sportmassage@kainostennis.com CAMPING FACILITES are also available at the venue. Please contact Liz on 084 554 6307 for further details. DIRECTIONS TO VENUE: From Robertson, take the McGregor turn-off. Cross over the Breede River, and take the left fork to McGregor. Continue for about 7km, and then turn left on the gravel road (PARU). Continue for a further 2km along the grave road and turn left to Paru Farm. One hour and fifty minutes from Cape Town. REMEMBER TO WEAR YOUR PPA FUNRIDE NUMBER LOADS OF LUCKY DRAW PRIZES Go to Event Page
  2. Or maybe we are understanding the rule incorrectly meaning that you are not allowed to give medals to 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. but you are allowed to give everyone that finishes a medal?
  3. Don't worry about it Skubarra. I'm sure we'll have something sorted for next year.
  4. Are you guys happy with the cost of an entry for this event? We try to keep it down so that it's worth it for the guys that are travelling far to get here.
  5. Hi Schalk, Your not the first to ask and we'll consider it. At the moment the event is listed as a "funride" and according to PPA, our partners for this event, we are not allowed to have medals. That's why we have the bottles of wine as a "medal". We'll think about it next year.
  6. Lost and Found: 2 Cycle computers - if you lost one, let me know Also, one of the riders is looking for his light blue, long sleeve top with white on the sleeves that he lost either in the showers or on the way to his car, so if somebody has, let me know.
  7. Jip, he was fine. He stayed for a while after the prize giving with his wife and had a soda or 2. He seemed fine when they left.
  8. Thanks Marko35s. I'll give the camping comments to Liz who'll make sure they never see the farm again! I think next year we'll make a point of only allowing people attending the MTB to camp on the farm, it was the idea this year but a few slipped in under the radar. Next year - no MTB entry = no camping. As for the wind..... I was so focused on asking the powers that be not to let it rain, I totally forgot about the other elements! I'll put it on the list for next year.
  9. Thanks to everyone who joined us for another successful Robertson Winery Wacky Wine MTB! Unbelievably the weatherman was spot on and we had great weather for the whole event. We even had one or 2 winds that helped with some of the climbs. The course was in great condition and I'm happy to see that one or 2 of the riders utilized the "hidden water points" along the way. If there is anything you guys would like us to improve on or add to the event for next year, please let me know as we would love to make this event a "not to miss" for the future. Maybe a live band and a "opskop" afterwards with a big screen for the rugby? Send me your suggestions!
  10. According to www.yr.no there will be 1mm of rain at about 11am and then again in the evening. Accuweather suggest almost the same also with a light drizzle. It would seem as though the cold front that is approaching the Cape will only reach Robertson on Saturday afternoon or towards the evening. By Friday evening we would have had 3 straight days of proper sunshine here in the valley and the course is looking very stable and dry at the moment. Seems like it's going to be in great condition on Saturday.
  11. Weather forecast says it's clear until Saturday afternoon. I've seen some of the route today and it's already drying up nicely. Should be nice and dry on Saturday!
  12. We'll have a few points along the route where you can give your bike a rinse so you don't have to worry about dirt clogging up the gears.
  13. Hi Woodstocker. It's about 160km from Cape Town and should take about 1h30-1h45 to get there.
  14. Hi HDW, We've them in place already! We've 2 large ones right outside the registration area which is very close to the chute which I will light up nice and early. I'll place another couple of smaller ones at the back for the slower guys.
  15. The long term weather forecast is looking very good! Sunshine from Thursday to Sunday! I'll keep you posted if the forecast changes.
  16. Hi Dubber. PPA will only time their members and mention the following when they are asked about it: "For events where PPA pays for the timing, only PPA members get timed, as a direct benefit of membership." They are our partners for this event and we have to respect their whishes and benefits they offer to their members. I hope you understand.
  17. Hi Sorted78. I agree with the other comments. Go for it! The 42km is quite technical with nice single track but we have loads of Marshalls out on the course to warn you at the difficult parts.
  18. Hi HDW. The profile should be on our event page. Let me know if you have trouble getting it and I'll send it to you.

  23. Looks like we'll have some rain on Thursday and on Friday morning but Saturday and Sunday will be nice and sunny. The drainage is quite good but there will be some muddy areas to negotiate. We'll also have hot showers afterward to wash a bit of the mud and dust away!
  24. Hi Slappies. It should be below the event information. There should be 3 profiles and a Google Earth map of the 42km. Let me know if i should email it to you.
  25. Hi Topwine. I've struggled a bit to get the profiles uploaded but they are up. I'll see if I can upload the Google map as well.
