  1. Quality of battery can be to blame but lets assume you had a good healthy Li-ion battery ,MS or ML has not been known for there top tear battery quality, running it flat and leaving it depleted for an extended period of time(weeks) will accelerated there ageing. The ideal state for a Li-ion battery is at 50% charge. There not stressed and should have a life time of 10 years when stored. Below 50% is a lot worse than above 50% so for normal use having them above 50% is acceptable. You should get about 3 years life time out of them. I advise people to rather charge there batteries than aiming to get it at 50%. Having a ready to use light for 3 years is a lot more convenient than having one that is never ready of use. I hope that clears up the question.
  2. Wow what an great experience. It was nice to talk to our customers for a change.
  3. Yes. I use the 2k which is the same design for commuting everyday.
  4. Original post here http://extremelights.co.za/wp-content/uploads/sites/66/2014/03/godzone-merrell-alpha-pack-main-1-3.jpg Extreme Lights has provided the mountain biking lighting gear for Team Merrell Alpha Pack. The Alpha pack is competing at the AR World Series GODZone Adventure Race in the South Island of New Zealand. The Extreme 1400k can produce +1000Lumen for over 10h when powered with our 6 cell Panasonic battery pack. Making them ideal for the GODZone Adventure Race. Orion Health GODZone, presented by 100% PURE Racing, is a multi-day, non-stop, expedition-style adventure race held annually in the South Island of New Zealand. The course remains a secret until the route is revealed just before the event starts. GODZone always uses the ‘journey concept’ where teams will be expected to traverse some of New Zealand’s most stunning landscapes with a logical pathway from start to finish. Adventure, excitement, highs, lows and lots of interesting team dynamics as the racers travel across the challenging terrain of the upper South Island. The leading teams will complete the journey in around 4 days with perhaps only 1-2hrs sleep in the entire duration. Teams at the back of the field will have up to 7 days to complete their journey but the accumulated lack of sleep and time in the wild will catch up with them eventually, we’re certain of that. We wish the Merrel Alpha pack the best of luck for the rest of the race. They started on Saturday and are making good progress. Follow them with Live Tracking on GODZONE Live Tracking You can follow the progress on Team Merrel Alpha Pack’s Blog

  7. It is really a joy to get such good feedback. Nicholas – February 25, 2014: Extreme 1200 MKII Looking for an entry level bike light found this great site with great reviews. We ordered on a Monday morning, delivered on Tuesday and riding on Wednesday. Great help and service when I called in. Thank-you. In terms of the light it was perfect for what we wanted and much better than the make shift torches and headlights we were using. All way to underpowered. A great buy you won’t be disappointed with. - See more at: http://extremelights.co.za/shop/extreme-1200-mkii-cree-bicycle-light/#sthash.vJ5zuFKw.dpuf

  9. Actual runtimes tests reveals that the Extreme 2k Cycle light preforms much better than estimated Original post here. Under promise and over deliver; This is something you don’t see a lot in the cycling light world. Our recent runtime test for the Extreme 2k revealed that this miniature light does not fall short. We where conservative in our original estimation of 4h but we did not expect this at all. The high power density of Panasonic cells and efficiency of the cutting edge 3 x Cree XM-L2 U2 was able to achieved well over 5h45 for 1800 real lumen. The light and battery only weighs 398g. Compare that to the Extreme 1200 MKII which weighs about the same but only produces 900 Lumen for 4h. The Extreme 2K is a showcase of how much LED and battery technologies has improved over the last 3 years. http://extremelights.co.za/wp-content/uploads/sites/66/2014/02/2K-Post.jpg The test is the first run results and needs to be repeated to be confirmed.
  10. We got some good response so far. I am not sure that we have all the gravel roads. If you have done some sessions in Jonkerhoek and you have it saved on your Strava, Endemondo or Garmin please export it and mail to info@extremelights.co.za or support@extremelights.co.za We plan to make a big map and some handouts maps for the gate with different routes. This should help those that don't really know the park to ride some epic single tracks
  11. Yes this year we will be there. Very excited about it. We have come a long way from just importing from DX or Ebay. If Apple and Sony had problems with highly controlled quality batteries can you imagine what risk there is with the cheapest of the cheap. 2 years ago a battery packed of one of our cycle lights when off in a client’s car. That event was a wakeup call for me. There will always be people that are to ignorant to know what risk they take just to save a few bucks. They really can go and buy it somewhere else. "Ja SABS approved doesn't mean a whole lot" In our case it means that the design should not put peoples life's at risk. It does not mean it needs to be the highest quality. If that does not mean much to you, well then that is your risk. I has been such a battle to get the approval that I am very very proud of it and will let everyone know about it.
  12. Hannes "I use this for trail running and it is well worth it. None of the branded lights in shops comes close to its performance. The battery life of the Panasonic cells are amazing and the New Cree XM-L2 is very very bright and efficient."
  13. http://extremelights.gocommerce.co.za/wp-content/uploads/sites/66/2014/02/image009.jpg Extreme 1K head Light is ideal for trail running and fast paced night activities. The zoom lens allows you to change over from a smooth very wide flood which idea for trail running to a narrow bright beam. Boasting some serious high tech. I was a bit taken back at the size, but it is light weight and fits well on my head with no bounce! Nothing like this on the market! ttech@icon.co.za (verified owner) – September 19, 2013: Awesome, why has it taken me so long to find such a nice headlight torch?? - See more at: http://extremelights.co.za/shop/extreme-1k-zoom-head-light/#sthash.uiqebgOn.dpuf
  14. There is a new bolt on mount available for o-ring type lights From www.Extremelights.co.za If you are struggling with your light moving while going over rough terrain or If you don't like that it is pointing off to the side. Then you can conceder this new swivel mount The new improved Swivel Quick Release Mount. It allows for 360 degree rotation and can clamp to various size round handle bars. It also can detach the quick using release clip. Leaving the mount on the bike and allowing you to remove the light head. The Pictures show it attached to our Extreme 3k light. The Mount is now available in all of Extreme K-range lights. http://extremelights.gocommerce.co.za/wp-content/uploads/sites/66/2014/02/Inserts-502x502.jpg http://extremelights.gocommerce.co.za/wp-content/uploads/sites/66/2014/02/New-clamp.gif http://extremelights.gocommerce.co.za/wp-content/uploads/sites/66/2014/02/E3k-4.jpg http://extremelights.gocommerce.co.za/wp-content/uploads/sites/66/2014/02/E3k-2.jpg http://extremelights.gocommerce.co.za/wp-content/uploads/sites/66/2014/02/E3k-3.jpg
  15. a thanks goes out to for everyone that have send there gpx files to us so far. There are still some gaps so please if you have been in Jonkerhoek and you have logged it using your Garmin, Strava or Endemodo you can help us by sending the activities to support@extremelights.co.za
  16. When price is the only consideration and the seller has zero product liability nor any responsibility to honer warranty or advertisement claims then the likely hood that they would be providing a more costly product is slim. For example a product that follow any standard at all. That is the case when you sit in China and sell to other countries via on-line stores. The same holds true for those that unwittingly buy from them and resells locally. When a client buys more than the minimum amount of quantities the factory will manufacturer the product to the specified requirements. Which equates to a price point/quality of a product There are numerous factories that copy each others products in China. Some do it better than others but at the end they will produce what ever you pay them to produce. It is naive to think that because a product X is manufactured in the same factory or being copied from brand Y that the quality will inherently be the same. We hear it frequently under cyclist: "That frame is manufactured in Brand Y factory therefore it is the same" That is highly unlikely if it was true that it comes from the same factory. If you go to a factory and buy there cheapest product you really can't expect to get anything else. I am sure that no one on this forum will doubt that there is a huge difference between a brand bike and unbranded bike bought from a super store. But yet both have gears, a seat post, wheels with rubber, handle bars, spokes etc. You can even buy a full suspension unbranded bike for under R2000. Both will get you from A to B or might I go as far to say that you could complete the same races on both? But yet for some reason this logic does not extend to cycle lights. Some of Extreme-lights housings may look similar than others but that is really where the similarity ends. Over the years we have learned that you can't build a good name on cheap products. And sitting in South Africa does make us responsible for the products we sell. We do hope that we are adding sufficient value to the lights to warrant a slightly higher price.
  17. Well it is ok. This is fun also so I am not to worried. Just email the gpx tcx files to support@extremelights.co.za For some reason kml files don't have hight.
  18. yes. they want money for there data. I understand why and respect that. At this stage this is going to cost a lot for the printing and work which Extremelights will cover. And so much better if the community can get involved.
  19. that is the plan So please send us your gpx tcx files to support@extremelights.co.za
  20. Kool. We plan to link to kml files that will work with google earth on your phone. That way you can see where you are and where you should go. But most of the work will go in to straining the segments together to tailor for each type of rider. It is also a reason to go ride but the more people that sends us there gpx tcx files the better. At the end we will go check the routes we plan. Jonkershoek as lots of trails so this could be challenging
