The charging issue is not so different from the switching off problem. The contact board which makes contact with the contacts are attached to the charging plug. I assume that when you insert the charger ( which can go in very tight ) that the board moves slightly and loses contact for that split second. This will cause it not to charge, ebven though it shows charging. If you finished charging the unit, and it wont switch on , a soft reset will work, Hold in reset and mode and power. On the second attempt the unit will switch on , but then you probably have to charge it again. I also found that for some odd reason, this will happen a lot more frequently when you charge it on your pc , or leave it plugged in for long periods after downloading.

If you take it to garmin, they cant fix it. They describe the unit as non servicable... strange

I found that to reset the unit only costs you your data. Try this link.. http://forums.motionbased.com/smf/index.php?topic=6566.0 it is even easiers than it looks. I glued mine back with a thin line of genkem, but be very carefull not to get enay glue on the rubber. It will damage it. For an extra spacer, I cut a square out of a old tube. works better than the o ring option. Pm me for more details.

I had the same problem before, and more recently. I have my 3rd unit, all ehicjh had the same problem, so I didn't even bother to return it. Decided should the unit start switching off again, I will try to fix it myself. Mine started switching off 4-5 times during a ride. I followed the instuctions on the motionbased thread, opened up my unit, added a rubber spacer underneath the contacts, bend the other springs upward, and closed the unit. Took me less than 10 minutes, and problem fixed for good!! Apparantly the contacts loose their bouancy and then starts to lose contact. I believe mine is good to go for a couple of years.
