  1. Thanks! Being used to PTA where Rural comes with a chance of Bikejack (looking at you, Delmas, Olifantsfontein) it is really nice to hear that my camping rides are in a safer area.
  2. Dankie!
  3. Hi all, We're going camping at Umfula (Parys) next week, and I'm trying to figure out where to ride. I see a few routes on Trailforks that incorporate the R500 and R53; would it be safe to solo to Koedoeslaagte using the R500 & R53 from Umfula?
  4. The previous times I did it we got pretty decent cycling shirts. This year my entry only mentions a T-shirt. Have the removed cycling shirts from the merchandise?
  5. And availability. I couldn’t find 9/16” repair kits locally, and I didn’t want to try an M14 only to find out that the pedal doesn’t fit.
  6. Update I took it to Bruce's (on the super dirty bicycle, I was racing there to catch them before closing time). They sent it on to Rocco, who put a heliocoil in. Total cost about R650. It seems pretty solid, though I'll reduce the number of pedal-swops I do a bit. All in all, I'm very happy not to have had to replace XX1 cranks!
  7. Hi all, Does anyone know of a bike shop in Pretoria that can do pedal thread repairs? I somehow stripped the thread on an XX1 crankarm (right hand side), so would love to get an insert in rather than replace the crankarm.
  8. Hi all - an update. @thebob's video showed me my mistake clearly - totally misunderstood the way the unwinding and rewinding of the tension spring works. Took the derailleur off again, wound it up as per the video, put it back and the problem is basically gone. I still need properly clean it, so it is not as smooth as it should be, but between the bunch of you you've saved me from buying a derailleur. Thanks!
  9. Thanks! This will help a lot.
  10. So it goes out the back of the clutch - to the spring’s side?
  11. How did you get the centre pin out? I was afraid of breaking it, so left it dirty. 🙈
  12. It doesn’t take up tension. I removed the whole derailleur, opened the clutch and cleaned, including the tension spring, but it wasn’t better after reassembly. Chances that I missed something is almost 100%- I worked on Youtube, not experience. But I had it at Cycle Lab this morning, and they also couldn’t get it to work.
  13. I’ve seen them at UK shops, but not local yet. I’d have liked to order one, but the waiting time is a pain. 😅
  14. Morning all! My Shimano XT rear derailleur is sticking - there's barely any movement on the derailleur. It seems like either there's a dirty bit I'm missing or the tension spring may be tired. Cycle Lab wants to replace, but I'm not convinced that it is necessary. Is there anyone in PTA who actually keep spares like the tension spring, and who can work on derailleurs?
