  1. haha wow this thread has thoroughly entertained me and helped me accept that i dont need a 29er gonna rock a 26er and make people rethink their life decissions when i pass them . thanks for all the replies oh and i did try to link my bike in the first post but i am a noob and messed it up >.> its a 2006 xt/slx sworks hardtail with a coil fork haha but its fast and agressive which suits my riding and doesnt break . i doubt any 29er could be as much fun and responsive on the decents or in the forests .
  2. Hi I use to cycle competitively (XC) about 6 years ago , before the large plague of 29ers broke out , and as i am starting to ride my previous bike again i have the urge to get back into racing but i hear everyone i ride with telling me that i would be so much faster on a 29er ... i am already faster than most i'v cycled with on my 26er so i am just curious , if at race pace will a 26er be able to keep with the top xc riders if our fitness levels are on par ? or will there be a major gap in time ? and if so am i waisting my time trying to get a good time on a 26er ? Should i buy a low end 29er or keep my high end 26er ? In my mind a bike is just a bike and is only worth a couple of seconds over a whole race so it can be seen as negligible . any input is welcome
  3. Hi Thanks for the replies. I will start saving haha. And with my next set of wheels I will keep a more rigorous maintenance schedule.
  4. Hi guys I am a student so I am knowingly in the wrong sport as mtb requires money and lots of it when something goes wrong.. To get to the point I am curious if anyone has replaced old rough wheel hub bearings (cones and balls) with a well fitted cartridge bearing? My hope is that a cartridge bearing would fit (with a tiny bit of persuasion) in place of the balls and outer cone on my rear hub and would be significantly less expensive than buying a new hub and getting it laced into my old rim.. It should fit the original axle through the middle and use some arrangement of the original nuts to center the axle snugly between the two bearings.. Let me know if this is a stupid idea or if it is possible. I take criticism well haha Thanks hubbers
  5. Thanks for all the feedback guys I have decided that I will get a new set / Arm I wouldn't feel too confident with a repaired crank anyway
  6. Hi hubbers I very smartly broke the threads on my crank arm and did a pretty great job of it, Does anyone know of a place I could take the arm to get it fixed? I am in the joburg south area Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Regards S.Laskey
