  1. And the Darwin Award for Marketer of the Year ...... Liam de Roche!!
  2. Excellent ... many thanks.
  3. see that you don't know the distance, but as you ride there a lot whats your approximate estimation?
  4. I don't think that is the point ... the point was to make the promenade accessible to more people doing different sorts of activities ... and the fact is its working ... many thought it would not ... myself included
  5. this is working out suprisingly well ... being used a lot by parents cycling with thier kids .. cyclists behaving themselves and riding at chilled pace ... so we can all live side by side after all
  6. love it how they get so involved in the CT community ... and they don't take **** from anyone ... if someone gives them a vague and useless answer they really get on their case
  7. Very impressed with how the cycling community gets together to make sure these types of things are attended to.We're a large community so our voice certainly carries some weight. Also impressed with how the City normally responds ... they without a doubt are responsive and support the feedback. Last shout out goes to Cape Talk ... if you have a real problem get them onto it and they will make sure you get a prompt response.
  8. This is the case with all lower profile sports. It was the Canoe Marathon World Champs in Rome this weekend ... SA got bronze in Mens K2, Gold in U23 Mens K1, silver in U23 women K1 .... and numerous other medals in the various age categories .... unfortunately both Hank McGregor (3rd) and Len Jenkins (5th) were disqualified in Mens Open, but anyway zero coverage in any of the press so far.
  9. Was coming down Kloof Road above Clifton on Sunday morning. A group of 6 came flying past riding about 3 abreast. Then got stuck behind 2 cars - started tailgating them. The one car didn't really know where they wanted to go and made as if to turn off to the Roundhouse then straightened out again. Three of the cyclists had to swerve across the road into the oncoming lane - one of the guys went right into the far gutter. If there was a car coming the other way they would all have been dead! Later that morning drove down towards beach road past the circle at the end of Sea Point and there was a cyclist getting stretchered off to hospital. From what I'd seen earlier in the day it didn't surprise me at all.
  10. How do you rate the section that you do from turning off Tafelberg Road back onto the gravel road towards Signal Hill? There's a really steep section and quite tricky where it goes from concrete to gravel quite soon after the turn off. I've done it a couple of times now and finally seem to be getting the hang of it. I see you turn off right and continue down towards the city bowl - I carry on there and connect with Tafelberg Road again. Theres a decent climb there which gets the heart rate back up!
  11. Shot - thats really useful.
  12. what is the easiest entry point into Deer Park? From which road?
  13. How difficult is the climb from Deer Park to the Blockhouse? Is it a technically difficult climb or just a sold grind?
  14. Cheers guys - appreciate the feedback. Read something about not being in too low a gear so tried that on today's ride although the ride was all on the road today. So far i've been changing to the easiest gear very early in the hill so I think getting fitter and staying in a higher gear should help.
  15. I've recently started mountain biking (still less than 10 rides) and am looking for some advice on routes within the City Bowl and Signal Hill area. I've always done loads of sport, but am finding it pretty challenging especially off road (and especially uphill!!). I stay in Sea Point so the routes that I've been doing so far is to come over Kloof Road and then go about half way up Talfelberg Road and branch off left onto the gravel road, head along that down to Deer Park and just beyond. Then normally head back through the suburbs (I'm too buggered to comtemplate heading back up to Tafelberg Road at that stage!! On Saturady I went back via the gravel road off the Noon Gun Road, up to Signal Hill and then back down Kloof. I'm really finding the uphills challenging with the rocks and soft sand (my back wheel tends to spin out a lot) - is this mainly technique - I know my fitness needs to improve as well? Is it ok to still be pushing up quite a few of the hills!!?? Are there any more mellow routes within the City Bowl - I'm keen to be off road, but need to get my breath back somewhere between all the climbs!? Any advice appreciated - technique, routes, training etc. Thanks.
