  1. thanks for the suggestions! they will travel with bike cases, so boxing won't be needed. Would the bike shops be open on Sundays? I recommended them to have a look at Cyclelab or CWC to see if they can do anything. I also found this via a google search: https://www.bagdrop.co.za/ Not sure if that could be a plan B?
  2. Are there bike storage facilities available in Cape Town that anyone can recommend? Friends of mine from Germany will be riding the CPCT this year and will fly to Namibia after the race. They are looking for an option to store their bikes for a week before flying back to Germany. Somewhere close to the airport would be preferable.
  3. thanks so much for all the tips! @Mamil we'll meet each other in the Tour du Cap then 😉 If you spot my South African accent amongst three German guys you'll it's us. 😄
  4. Thanks for the replies. This is helpful. It is always difficult to judge from another country if you read news and media about people being mugged/attacked while hiking there.
  5. Hi, A group friends and I are traveling from Germany to Wellington for the Tour du Cap and CPCT next year. Two of the guys' wives will be joining and are wondering about the safety of hiking up table mountain while we are on the bikes. Having grown up in SA myself, I told them that doing it alone is an absolute no-go due to safety concerns. I've come across some websites offering guided hikes up the mountain. Does anyone have experience with this?

Does anyone know if this race is taking place next year? We're a group of 4 that registered and will be traveling from Germany to take part. The riders list has not been updated in many months - it still does not show our entries. I've emailed the organizers twice already but no response.
  10. ETA in cape town, between 5 and 7pm tonight!
  11. Jonas is getting close the SA border, well on track to break the record! https://capetocape.maprogress.com/
  12. No small feat what they are attempting. Here is an interesting video on the solo Panamerican challenge that he did as well. There are some seriously dodgy roads out there... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChKSzzH7-Rk
  13. I recently went to a talk presented by this guy, Jonas Deichmann. Really impressive what he has achieved in the past! His latest record attempt is currently underway with the aim to go from the Nordkap in Norway down to Cape Town in 75 days! I am in no way affiliated with him, just met him once at his talk and thought it would be interesting to share on here. You can follow his progress on social media or on his website. Might even be cool if a group of people would join on the last section of the ride (not sure about the rules etc though...) https://jonasdeichmann.com/ https://www.facebook.com/JonasDeichmannAdventures/
  14. Hello Everyone, I have a friend who likes to hit the gym quite often and hence weighs about 105kgs... He and his wife are looking to start cycling and want to buy MTB's. His budget is about R 10 000 - 12 000 per bike. Currently he is looking at the Silverback Sola 2 or the Scott Scale 960 but he is a little concerned that he might be to heavy for these?? what do you recommend? any suggestions or other options he can consider?
  15. where are you from?? anywhere near Gauteng? contact Johan Bornman
