At 6 am this morning two members of our club were attacked on the Rustenburg Road 200m from the Black Coffee / Service Station shop at the bottom of Melville. This is not the first incident at this black spot. The attack happened as the riders passed two guys walking inside the crash barrier at that stretch of road. They did not confront the riders head on, rather they walked in single file in the same direction as the riders. As they rode past, the first guy simply reached out and grabbed the cyclist nearest the pavement and pulled him to the ground. They were not deterred by the fact that there were two riders. Luckily motorists arrived from both directions and outnumbered the attackers jumped over the barriers and ran down the slope and away through the park. We are reporting the incident to the police in an attempt to get visible policing in that area at that time of the morning.
